Avatar n tn I have seen infantile spasms while working on a pediatric unit. It is a serious seizure disorder that often causes cognitive/developmental delays. Doctors often down-play the severity of this disease, but the majority of the children that I have seen with this end up needing some for of long-term care. I am really sorry that you are going through this. Here is a website with some more info for you: http://www.aboutkidshealth.ca/Epilepsy/Infantile-Spasms.aspx?
Avatar m tn Hello, Several antiepileptic drugs and a hormonal therapy can be used to treat infantile spasms and valproate is tried as first line drug. Sometimes doctors start withv igabatrin (Sabril) which is often used as the initial therapy because it is relatively safe (especially for short-term use) and effective. If vigabatrin does not control the seizures in 3 or 4 days, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) is usually used next. ACTH stops seizures in more than half of children with infantile spasms.
Avatar n tn s movements are manifestations of a seizure disorder known as infantile spasms (AKA hypsarrhythmia). The classical description of these spells are similar to what you describe: brief, jerking of the child, oftentimes with the hands flipping back and frequently occurring multiple times in clusters. Infantile spasms are generally divided into 2 broad categories: symptomatic and idiopathic/cryptogenic, the latter category a wastebasket for all of the cases that have no attributable etiology.
Avatar n tn Hi, my son had infantile spasms which started at approx 3 months old, his eyes would squint and roll up, not fully but as if he was straining, both arms would raise up at the same time, this typically happened on waking or before sleep, I was told for weeks it wasnt anything serious or it was colic.. I video taped him doing theses movements and pushed and pushed to see a neurologist, when they saw it they did say it looked like a fit, prescribed him phenobarbitone* and sent us home...
Avatar f tn Since October I have tried Lortab (3 strengths), gabapentin, Lyrica, Ultram, Relafen, Zonegran, and Trileptal. I am also on Cymbalta and Ambien. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn Greetings. My daughter Emma was diagnosed at 4 months with Infantile spasms and resolved after two days on Acthar Gel. She continued treatment for 3 weeks 40 ml injections, tolerated acthar well and until recently was asymptomatic. Her diagnosis was cryptogenic IS. Recently she started doing a new movement. She just spent 4 days at all children's and her Veeg was normal, her Contrast MRI including the basil ganglia was normal, her reflux test was negative.
Avatar n tn Hello, I very much need an answer because my doctor will not give me a straight answer. I'm currently on Lamictal (800mg a day) and Zonegran (200mg a day) and I'm a college student so I tend to drink. I've never had a seizure while consuming alcohol but I'm terrified when doing so. So heres my question... When I drink (beer) with my meds, will it bring on a seizure? or just enhance the side effects? Please I very much need to know asap! Maybe even stories would helpl too.
Avatar f tn t think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.
Avatar n tn I saw a response about what was referred to as benign infantile seizures. My neice has seizures that started at about 2 months old. My sister was told that she would probably grow out of it by the age of 6 months. She is now 2 and a half years old. The description below that I saw on this site sounds like what she is going through: "It is reassuring that thus far all the tests are normal. What you describe is what we would also call infantile seizures.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Has anyone with Chiari had success with Diamox? I'm currently on Zonegran for L-temperal lobe seizures, but the constant pressure and full feeling in my ears and mouth is driving me crazy. Told possible Meniers by ENT, but my Neuro thinks it's the Chiari. She wants to try Diamox, but wants to clear it with my Chiari specialist because of the Zonegran and risk of kidney problems (dehydration).
1303966 tn?1296740010 Does anyone know of any medication for complex seizures (L-temporal lobe) that won't make you feel like a zombie? I take Zonegran 200mg and I have absolutely no energy. I'm typically very active and moving all the time. I don't even have the energy to grocery shop or cook anymore. This is ridiculous! I also take Diamox, not sure if this has any affect on my energy level. Recently had a CBC done, and it came back normal. I just started these meds 4 months ago.
455835 tn?1206015381 Carolina where he has a chance of getting help? As an infant, he had surgery to correct pyloric stenosis. I read that infantile pyloric stenosis is genetic and that it is linked to hyperacidity. Something about the body's inability to properly utilize nitric oxide... I am desperate. This discussion is related to HELP--Ulcer, Pyloric Stenosis, Weight Loss..
1303966 tn?1296740010 I went off the Zonegran because my hair was falling out and my tachycardia spells stopped. At least I hope so. I also think my meds were causing a lot of my anxiety. I don't have this anxiety attacks since stopping seizure medication. I take butterbur for my headaches and this is suppose to increase the oxygenated blood to the brain. I feel so much better these days.
Avatar n tn There is a strong history of atopy in the family. At this point infantile eczema is still a likely differential. The family history of dermatitis and the way you described the skin condition may still suggest that this is so. In infants the cheek seems to be the most common area involved. Infantile eczema may have variable appearances .They do not have a definite characteristic. So ,this is still a likely differential here. I suggest you seek second opinion with another dermatologist .
703031 tn?1398963307 That is worse to deal with than The MRI. My daughter has Infantile Spasms with is a severe case of Epilepsy and she also goes to PT, OT and speech. 487443 tn?1208839512 My 10-year-old nephew suffers infantile autism: eye contact problem, language problem, mentally retarded, cranky, autosadism. I serf the medical websites. Therapy of infantile autism focuses on behaviorism therapy such as pictures, music, physical exercise, etc. I also found some surgeons treated autism patients by neurosurgery operations. I wonder whether neurosurgery operations are really effective for curing infantile autism and this kind of therapy is mature.
Avatar m tn Infantile...
Avatar f tn as we call them were occurring. The neurologist that our pediatrician sent us to ruled out infantile spasms, which is what our home video looked like. Since no one had any idea what it was and she was meeting milestones, we took a wait and see attitude. Now she is 10, and this still occurs occasionally while she sleeps. When she first wakes up in continues for an hour or so. She says it hurts; she says it is like her breathing is stuck.
Avatar m tn MY son is 5 and half year old with infantile easotropia(accomoditive convergent squint). He has gone through dialted fundus test and some eye specialists say child is amblyopic in both eyes and some says he doesnt have ambloypia. So apart from dialted fudus test , is there any other test to know amblyopic.
Avatar n tn My 4 and a half month old daughter also has what look like breathing spasms that only occur after she has been crying. To date these episodes happened at two months after crying for some time while I was bathing, and at 4 months old after her scheduled immunization shots and once again after she had woken up frightened and found she was alone. Each time it happens she has been very upset and has been crying for a long time.
Avatar n tn The EEG results were good and the neurologist said it was definitely not seizures or Infantile Spasms. They said it is just myoclonus which is probably being caused by a immature nervous system which he should outgrow and is nothing to worry about. They were very grateful that we brought in the video and they requested a copy. If I can get it up on youtube I will post a link.
20748650 tn?1521032211 What is the guidance and/or what is your practice in terms of ophthalmology referrals for Mild-Moderate Infantile Esotropia beyond 6 months of age? If a pediatrician seems reluctant to make a referral at what point should a patient be putting their foot down to demand to see a specialist if at all? I got some decent pictures of the case in question if needed.
Avatar f tn He is now able to start learning, and he came off of all medication except for 75 mg of zonegran. He was on 1400mg a day. It has made a huge difference. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I do not know who to go see about the aura, I had my eyes checked when the doctors were thought I had MS and I have 20-20 vision and no floaters. I presently see a neurologist who has me on zonegran 2oo mg and flexoril 3 times a day and Diflucan as needed and Maxalt. When the headaches get out of control she puts me on prednisone. I also see a physical therapist at her office weekly for the headaches. I have had trigger point injections ( did not help).
