Common Questions and Answers about Zonegran for weight loss

zonegran

Avatar f tn My daughter was a thin child, who took Tegretol for seizures, and gained a large amount of weight in a short time. We stopped the medication, but the weight did not reduce.
Avatar f tn I hope everything gets figured out. I currently take topamax (100 mg) and I should be on 3 instead of one. Any more than 1 and I get shaking fits at night. And anything out of the ordinary for your body can increase bp. So yeah your migraine could. Have you ever heard of being water drunk? It's odd sounding but from what I remember when you were on the IV, your symptoms kinda sounded like it. It's not often diagnosed because it looks like dehydration.
Avatar f tn I would also ask that her doctors go over her current list of medications and look for any that could be causing weight loss or loss of appetite. I would ask the same of her pharmacist (sometimes the pharmacist will see something the doctor misses or vice versa; when it comes to meds, it always pays to get both opinions). If a medication may be the culprit, discuss the feasibility of changing to an equivalent drug to see if you get any improvement.
Avatar n tn There are even some meds, especially antidepressants, that cause weight loss in some and weight gain in others. I gained weight on most mood stabilizers. The biggest culprits for me were Depakote, Remeron- an antidepressant, and Zyprexa- an antipsychotic. Now I take Lithobid, which is a slow release lithium. It tends to not cause as many side effects as regular Lithium. I am also on Seroquel. I was finally able to lose all of the weight I gained.
Avatar f tn A friend said she took Zonegran for nerve pain and it helped her tremendously. My c ondition now is post herpetic neuraglia left over from shingles in the top of my head, forehead, eyebrow and left eye. have anyone tried Zonegran for post herpetic nueraglia (PHN) and did it help. The Lyrica is now affecting my eyes so I am desperate to get off it. Any answers/experiences are much appreciated. Thanks much.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I have never actually read anything about eliminating symptoms and weight loss. In my opinion, I think the activity and a healthy diet may possibly minimize the symptoms and "flare-ups." Like you said, it can't hurt to give it a try. I would definitely try to avoid the surgery if you can.
Avatar f tn t think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.
Avatar n tn As you can see alcohol use is not recommended for use with Zonegran in particular. but is usually not recommended for use with most medications. That is because it can increase or decrease the effectiveness of the medication or cause unwanted side effects. Personally, although I haven't found any literature that indicates that seizures will occur if you use it with Zonegran and Lamictal, I would avoid it completely or minimize its' usage.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Has anyone with Chiari had success with Diamox? I'm currently on Zonegran for L-temperal lobe seizures, but the constant pressure and full feeling in my ears and mouth is driving me crazy. Told possible Meniers by ENT, but my Neuro thinks it's the Chiari. She wants to try Diamox, but wants to clear it with my Chiari specialist because of the Zonegran and risk of kidney problems (dehydration).
1303966 tn?1296740010 Sorry to hear about everything! I know how you feel...have been on a number of different anti-seizure meds for 14 years now, and totally understand how you feel. If it helps, things usually improve somewhat after you've been on the meds for 5 or 6 months....kind of get used to the dosage, although it isn't easy to deal with all the side effects.
Avatar f tn Easier said than done, I know, but stress is terrible for weight loss. I too have PCOS and understand your struggle. Because of the PCOS you should adopt a diet free of white carbs and lower your intake of sugar. I understand your financial situation, too. I recently had to get an EBT card to pay for food. Since you go to college do you have access to athletic areas like the track? Our local outdoor high school track is open to the public.
Avatar m tn Now many of you thought how controlling your mind can help you in weight losing. Yoga for weight loss, It is a sufficient for everyone.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your comment! I have scrutinized every weight loss quick fix out there as part of my research for The Flex Diet - and I don't believe eating honey is a great solution. Jaquta makes some great points about small changes in diet, activity, and lifestyle. Think about it in the longer term. Take care!
Avatar f tn What I can, most respectfully, share with you is that weight loss is attainable but there is not shot that is going to fix it for us. If there were, everyone would have taken it and obesity would not be so prevalent in our society. Portion control, counting calories/points/carbs, journaling your food intake and implementing moderate exercise works; I am a testament to that. Avatar n tn Theoretically, there are a lot of natural remedies for weight loss, though I have my doubts as to effectiveness. The only true weight loss program is to eat what you digest well (which is beyond the mere cutting of calories), don't eat what you don't, and exercise more. However, there are categories of weight loss aids: Heat: hot herbs increase metabolism some, and also help everything move through thre system more efficiently. Some, like cinnamon, also help with blood sugar.
Avatar f tn I have been on so many of them, and the side effects are worse than the seizures. For example, the keppra I just got off of messed with my hormones, heart rate and blood pressure. I found out by taking it, that I have a mild case of neurally mediated syncope which the keppra elevated to the point where i had to be hospitalized. It also caused major weakness and fatigue to the point where I couldnt work. And believe it or not, that was the minimum dose.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Hi, yes..this is not uncommon for those with chiari...it can be just the chiari...or u may have related issues..such as a thyroid condition, or a condition called POTS...... Do talk to ur Chiari Dr about this.
Avatar f tn No, I don't say don't try anything, but I also don't presume to be able to tell someone what's best for them because I've seen so many "proven" routines fail over time. I've come to believe that we all just do the best we can and hopefully what we choose won't come around to haunt us a few years down the road. I'm always, therefore, suspicious of the latest fads, but suspicious isn't the same as saying don't try them.
Avatar f tn Weight loss for a person depends not only on physical activity like exercises, but it is much more dependent on food habits. Along with your exercise you must maintain the following diet to lose weight. • Your major intake should be fruits and vegetables.
Avatar f tn Please don't go crazy about weight loss..and drinking only tea for breakfast is extremely unhealthy! Your body is super hungry after a whole night fast...n then when you give it tea (anything acidic) it feels you're starving and starts storing fat..fat is like cotton, more volume and less weight! so you might see weight loss, but not much inch loss.just have a healthy breakfast,a fruit as snack after about 2 hours, lunch and another snack after 2 hours and keep it light for dinner...
