Zolpidem for anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Zolpidem for anxiety

ambien

I take 900 mg of Gabapentin, 50mg Tramadol, 10 mg of Zolpidem (generic for Ambien). It takes 2 hrs for mine to kick in sometimes but I get about 6 hrs of undisturbed sleep. Many times, when I wake I have nerve pain in my right upper shoulder/armpit area. I have tried all sorts of over the counter sleep aides and this is the only one that doesn't make me feel yucky the next day.
Hey Via, I too have been a long time user of zolpidem and even abused it when I was w/d ing from opiates (big mistake btw). For me when I stopped and I've done this several times thru-out the years. I get 3 nights of very little sleep then my body goes back to normal. It is nothing like coming off of pain meds. You just have resign yourself that sleep will not be good for a few nights, but it will kick back in. Hope this helps. You may want to ask your Dr. about weaning.
I have been on Zolpidem 10mg for quite a few months now. The Neurologist gave it to me for Insomnia. For a long time I took one at night just to help with insomnia. If I stop taking it, I do not sleep and my brain doesn't shut down. The last few months, things have been getting quite stressful with a new job in a new country. I started to get more headaches, muscle spasms and my ears got red with a very flushed feeling.

My dad has been taking Zolpidem for over 3 years and recently I found out Zolpidem is used for treating short term insomnia. I'd like to know if it can be used for long term and if whether there are any medications available which can be used for long term treatment.
I have been taking Zolpidem ER 12.5 mg for over 10 years. I find it works well for me... because if I don't get a good night's sleep I cannot get up and deal with teaching middle school kids. But lately there's been more stress than normal with school and family and I am finding that I do not like the person I have become (moody and seriously trying to fix everyone else's problems, as well speaking so bluntly (and regretting it so much later).
Hi All, I had suffered from general anxiety before, and had received medical treatments for around 3-4 years. Now it has been one and half year since I quit all the anti-anxiety drugs like Paxil as well as the sleeping pills. I felt not bad during the past year without taking any medicine, my sleeping was also fine! But these days I have mild insomnia again, so I took the sleeping pills for a good sleep. I took half of the stilnox (zolpidem) tablet, say 5 mg per night for total 3 nights.

The first 3 days were actually not that bad, I think the anxiety for the rough road ahead was harder on me than anything else. From day 4 to the present (day 11), I have had 2 good nights of sleep and the rest were horrible. Tossing and turning, awaking after every vivid dreams (multiple dreams in each night). The GOOD: Even after one these horrible nights, I am MENTALLY sharper! I can think and recall things so much more clearer. That is something you wont realize until you get off.
I sleep for at least 7-8 hours a night, without the horrible anxiety. I don't find that any of the benzos used for anxiety help with sleep at all, especially over a longer period of time. Trazodone is an old anti-depressant used mainly for its sedative affects and isn't addictive.
Currently, I am taking daily supplements during the day and Zolpidem at night for sleeping. This problem is also affecting my ability to function in my new job, as there are times when I just want to run away and hide. This really concerns me because its our only source of income. I am continuing to see my doctor, but I am running out of hope. The symptoms occur daily and are becoming part of my life.
That is the most common approach to treating anixety and panic, and has been successful for countless people. For most people with an anxiety disorder, anxiety is something we have to deal with in some degree, for a lifetime. There is no "cure", only treatment of anxiety in times of exacerbation. The good news is, with treatment, you can get the anxiety to a manageable level, and live a normal life.
Maybe talk to your doctor about a different medication, there is no one medicine that fits every person, if there were many companies would be out of business. There are some that work well for others that may not work for you, you must discuss this with your doctor. I was recently diagnossed with (GAD) "General Anxiety Disorder, a condition which dont quote me on this figure but nearly 90% of the population proabably has at least at some point in their life.
Zolpidem (Ambien), Methylphenidate (Concerta), Clonidine, and Strattera. First, I do not believe my son should have ever been diagnosed w/ ADHD, I have done the research and written a paper as well as currently going through a publication on an article with my wife (not my son's mother) who is an assistant professor of counseling mental health.
what started out as a really bad headache turned into these weird sensations at first it was like there was heat inside my head it felt really hot inside and i went to my doctor and he gave me this medication called zolpidem which help for like a few days but then those sensations would return and the pills would always leave me feeling like a zombie.
One possible problem I can see just from your explanation could be a lack of magnesium, which might account for the anxiety and the muscle problems. I met a lot of people with these ill-defined conditions like CFS and fibromyalgia in the 18 years I managed health food stores. Usually, they got to the natural medicine world after years of frustration in the allopathic world.
The FDA issued the mandate due to the emergence of information that has shown that the drug can stay in a person's system for several hours after they wake up. Zolpidem is commonly found in both generic and name-brand sleep aids. Ambien and Ambien CR are probably the most recognizable prescriptions that contain zolpidem, but it is also found in Zolpimist and Edluar, according to the FDA's statement. Here is some of the key information to have emerged regarding the FDA's decision.
I was just wondering if this is normal for EBV? I have anxiety and restlessness almost 24/7. My doctor prescribed me Celexa about a week ago for the depression, and since then I have had no suicidal thoughts. However, I still feel restless all the time. I never feel tired, and whenever I try and relax my mind to rest it seems to make the anxiety worse. The only sleep I get is from taking a 5 mg Zolpidem and even then I only get about 4 or 5 hours of sleep.
The 40 sum doctors I've seen, believe that I just have anxiety/depression, chronic pain disorder and there is nothing they can do to treat the tumor, as they believe it's not causing any of my symptoms. My symptoms are (for me being a 30 year old male); anxiety, depression, chronic debilitating fatigue, headaches like you would not believe, unable to wake up in the morning, but can't sleep at night...it's as if my cortisol levels are completely backwards.
I didn't sleep only an hr for 2 days so gave me a few 5 mg Zolpidem. Only took for two nights as don't want to take every night. When the zoloft starts leveling for me, will the insomnia get better??
For those that use Ambien and do not think it is addictive be very careful. The generic name for Ambien is Zolpidem/stilnoct. This is a very informative website with tons of information on Ambien other Z class drugs and Benzos. http://www.thetrap.org.uk/forum/index.
It takes 30 to 40 hours for your body to clear half of it. It's use is good for ongoing problems like spasticity (as Bob notes), RLS, anxiety, seizures, and such. A shorter acting benzodiazepine like Xanax or Valium is better suited, but can be addictive when used for a lengthy period of time. See if your doctor won't add another several tablets so you can sleep tonight and tomorrow night. You might even need 5mg for a couple nights after that.
take fluoxetine or paroxetine for derpression n remelteon ,zolpidem for insomia...hope ull have a peaceful sleep ..wish u lick regards.....
Dear Doctor, Can you give me some advice as to what sorts of tests should be done and what illnesses might cause the following? I'm finding it hard to get straight answers and prompt testing here in Europe. Profile: male, 36, competitive endurance athlete (trail running, cycling etc)...til Sept 03! 68kg stable My main symptoms, in order of appearance: intermittent, short-term nocturnal parasthesias of pinkie and ring finger (bi-lateral) as of June 03 (when I shake the arm it goes away).
However, abrupt withdrawal of zolpidem may cause delirium, seizures, or other severe effects, especially if used for prolonged periods. So, please consult your doctor and under his guidance, plan for a gradual withdrawal. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Hi Lynne, I was prescribed Xanax (alprazolam) for anxiety as well as Ambien (zolpidem) for sleep. I didn’t use the Ambien much, and although it was very effective, insomnia wasn’t an issue for me.
you said klonopin made you sleep well, were you taking them for sleep at night or through the day for anxiety? Benzos make a long-term bad choice for sleep, as they do exactly what you're encountering if used for that purpose.

I have been taking ambien (zolpidem) 10 mg everynight for over a month. It worked good at putting me to sleep but the last few days I have been waking up with terrible anxiety and shaking. I want to stop taking it tonight. Can I just stop or do I need to slowly reduce it? I would like to just stop taking it if I could. I don't know if the ambien is what is causing my morning anxity and shakes but I don't want to feel like that again in the morning. It's so terrible.
