1580703 tn?1651904887 These agents have been used successfully in treating nonhypercapnic central sleep apnea. Temazepam and zolpidem have been shown to be effective under these circumstances and are believed to work by consolidating the sleep pattern, thus minimizing the instability in ventilation induced by sleep-wake transitions. A case series showed zolpidem reduced central apneas, and the overall apnea-hypopnea index, without worsening obstructive events.
9485899 tn?1537369589 You may for some reason have developed sleep apnea, which is not only a PITA but can be dangerous. Light blocking sleep masks and white noise generators have always helped me.
Avatar m tn However - last night I developed sleep apnea - every time I doze off, my breathing slows down and stops and I wake up gasping. My sinuses are mostly clear, there are no obstructions in my throat, my throat does not close up, I don't snore. I demonstrated it for my wife - she says that as I doze off, my breathing slows down and then I stop breathing for about three breaths. Then I wake up and take a deep breath. I did this three times in about five minutes while she watched.
1564517 tn?1314346323 I didn't read carefully and don't know all the patent med names, other than Ambien which I know and have some generic form in my cabinet. Trazadone is often an effective aid in sleeping, yes it is prescribed as an anti-depressant, but it is also an aid in getting to sleep if taken before bedtime. I take 50 mg, not sure it helps a lot.. my problem is staying asleep.. driven awake by unpleasant dreaming, need to urinate (old guy) and nasal congestion: dry mouth and suffocation.
Avatar n tn s always important to be medically evaluated first, usually with a sleep study, to determine if there could be a physiological reason, like sleep apnea, behind the sleep disturbances that needs addressed. Once a medical problem has been ruled out, you can get down to the nitty gritty. If you think your issue could be stress, anxiety and/or depression, then it's important to address those issues with a professional. Also, there are a lot of things you can do to improve your sleep habits.
Avatar m tn I have went to the doctor and have gotten sleep counseling and relaxation techniques. I have been on zolpidem for around a year and it does help quite a bit but here is what I am really wondering about. I am a medical student and have been concerned that I should not be on zolpidem this long. Can this affect my memory (with the amnesia side effects) or will that just be for the 7-8 hours while the drug is in my system? Also are there long term effects of zolpidem?
Avatar f tn I have taken 10 mg Zolpidem (Ambien) for years as it really helps me sleep. But I think it may be causing my tinnitus. The only way to be sure of this is to stop taking it for a time and see if tinnitus goes away. So far, I have not taken any for 11 nights and tinnitus is still the same. - A pretty much constant low-pitched noise. How long would I have to stay off Zolpidem before knowing whether or not it is the culprit?
Avatar f tn I previously alternated between temazepam and zolpidem for sleep. I also take gabapentin. Three weeks ago I stopped temazepam and tramadol. I am taking zolpidem every night now and continue gabapentin 3x a day. I don't crave either of the meds I quit, but I have been experiencing inability to concentrate, ringing in my ears, vomiting, blurry vision, sweating, confusion, anxiety and mood swings. The symptoms wax and wane and I can't find a pattern.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I tried this out, (5mg) and I found it took several hours to feel the effect, and then I kept waking up, and going back to sleep, until i finally fell in a deep sleep and slept in late because I felt groggy. I prefer the ativan. I don't get the hung over feeling from it. I wouldn't do the imovane on a bus trip. I'd probably just take benedryl, or gravol (both make me drowsie) and they only last for 6 hours or so and don't leave the residual effect.
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Insomnia is a side effect of Amitriptyline. But you may develop tolerance to this effect. However if it persists, discuss your symptoms with your consulting doctor he may change the dose or the medications. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
1770925 tn?1365618522 Check to see if you are having episodes of hypoglycemia, this can cause restless sleep and a sense of weakness. The fact that you eat granola bar and sleep well, goes more in favor of this. If you are a diabetic, then aim for euglycemic state and check with your doctor to rule out hypoglycemia. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I took Paxill and Ambien and it worked just fine. It didn't do anything really that I am aware of to my liver but did enable me to remain on treatment.
Avatar m tn I took a few days 10 mg of zolpidem for sleep (from the doctor) and now my head is terrible you think it would go by itself?I have terrible insomnia and i don't know is very unpleasent and makes me very lethargic in motion.
Avatar f tn nt been able to have a good night sleep, my doc said to take half a quetiapine at bed time but also gave me zolpidem, my ansiety is great that none of these make sleep well, my question is: are this the withdrawal symptoms of the clonopil and how long will i have to put up with them? Right now i feel the left side my face swollen and numb my blood pressure is normal 128/83, would i get well?
Avatar n tn She is sleep/wake having conversations she doesnt remember and and having conversations with us that did not happen, Sleep walking, cleaning.... Is this common and should Ambien be prescribed to teens with PTS?
4149717 tn?1389503561 Your brain has been re-programmed (by way of the Ambien) to go into sleep mode so it may take a few nights of waking up and not sleeping through but I think it is manageable. Better to do it now then to wait any longer. That stuff made me crazier than a loon. I didn't sleep from it. I got up in the middle of the night and cooked full dinners without remembering. Just what I needed--spaghetti and meatballs at 3 am.
Avatar m tn Yes, it is possible to have sleep apnea and still have vivid dreams. Some people's apnea is worse in different positions such as on their back, so there could be more dreaming when side sleeping, etc. Also, remembering your dreams could be a sign you were awakened during them, which apnea can do as it is often worse during REM. I've read (don't know for fact) that while our dreams seem like long scenes there really just seconds long.
Avatar f tn Yes, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea earlier this year. They were surprised. They said I did not have the "throat" of a sleep apnea person, I'm thin, non-smoker, no drugs, don't snore, don't sleep with my mouth open etc. They thought it was just narcolepsy but did the 2 sleep studies and said sleep apnea in addition. I have no obstructive, no central, no hypopnea's but had quite a bit RERA's (respiratory effected related arousals).
Avatar f tn thanks for the quick response I don't think i've developed a tolerance but it is worth checking out what type of drug is loramet! Do you take sleep meds every night? I do and cannot sleep without them.
Avatar n tn I have asthma and sleep apnea i would like to know if the asthma cause the sleep apnea and how.
Avatar f tn I once heard there may be a link to between sleep apnea and alzheimers. Is there any information supporting this or just a rumor.
Avatar f tn All helped me for a time period of no longer than 2 months and I was back to square one again. Excedrin PM, Tylinol PM, Unisom, sleep gels; and so on but they just keep adding up. My doctor said not to take them but he wont change my prescription so do I just keep taking more and more over the counter sleep medications or not sleep at all? I'm only up to 4 over counters- 7 pills but I know that 1 or 2 hours of sleep might not be worth it if I get a side reaction.
Avatar f tn t know if removing your thyroid would help sleep apnea, and I doubt any MD would remove your thyroid to cure sleep apnea because there are OTHER conditions that can cause it. Getting my TSH in the normal range definitely helped my case. Do you have thyroid condition?
