Common Questions and Answers about Zolpidem and liver disease

I started to use more zolpidem, because I started to sleep less even when taking zolpidem, taking up to 2 and a half tablets at night. At some point I took 2 halves during the day at work to try help with stress. Sometimes my mouth was very dry and I struggled to swallow. Bizarrely, it did not make me too sleepy and felt like it was just relaxing me. I finally decided to leave that country and return to less stressful surroundings.
To be more specific, the seep aid Zolpidem ( the generic for Ambian ) My doc. prescribed it, but noticed a warning for any one with liver disease.
It may be important to take a lower dose of these agents to prevent accumulation of the drug in the liver. The effect of these drugs and the presence of other forms of liver injury (fatty liver) may have a cumulative effect. On the other hand, a number of non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (sulindac, piroxicam, indomethacin, naproxen, ibuprofen) have been more frequently associated with different forms of liver injury.
I am becoming somewhat frustrated with the way a lot of my colleagues practice medicine. Disenchanted, angry would be the other words that could be used. We all get ostensibly that same training and all of us are supposedly in it to help our patients. So, how come have I been getting so many letters lately on my addiction forum from desperate people unable to quit taking the tramadol pills that their own kind doctors have so freely prescribed for them?
Examples include Zolpidem and Flurazepam. However, these drugs should be used with caution especially if other drugs are being taken (like tricyclic antidepressants, antipsychotics) as the sedative effect is additive. Also, there are disease conditions where these drugs are contraindicated, like in patients with severe liver disease. It would be best to consult your physician. Good luck.
Also you may want to try natural anit depressants. Nootropics. 5-http, st johns wort, cod liver oil, and maca root powder. With test shots they work great. Also don't forget diet and exercise. Also avoid hot baths and sleeping in underwear. Keep your nuts at proper temp as best you can.

I have AIH along with PBC (Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, another autoimmune liver disease). I take Ambien every single night. Otherwise, I would get no sleep at all. Recently, I switched to the generic Ambien (zolpidem) as it is much cheaper under my insurance plan. It works great, and my hep has no problem with my taking it. I still don't sleep through the night, but at least I sleep through most of it. Take care, Sandy C.

Everything ingested into the body, including foods and medications, enters the bloodstream through the digestive tract and travels to the liver. Most medications metabolize, or break down, in the liver and some such as Ambien may break down into substances that can damage liver cells. I hope you are seeing a hepatologist as they can best advise you about Ambien and it's effects on your liver.
Esp if not historically drinking enough H20 and too much diet coke? Also take 20mg zolpidem and 1mg clonazepam ea nite and zyrtech 10mg every night and sometimes supplement w/benedryl 50mg if allergies and/sleep issues. Also take lots of Aleve and Tyenol and was drinking wine frequently, but stopped drinking and started eating better and hyrdrating, was also low in potassium. Does this all sound like this giant ball of dehydration combined could contribute to the high ammonia levels?
My CT Scan (to rule out Cushings) showed a slightly prominent liver and spleen (hepatosplenomegaly) and slightly 'full, but certainly not large' adrenal glands. Also I have a 'meningiomata like' that is suspected to be a 4.5 cm fibroid in the uterus. I have had these before and had them removed...My gallbladder, kidneys, and pancreas are normal and my gut is unremarkable.... (I will have to get going on my Abs of Steel video soon). My Vitamin B12 test came back with a 299.
Hi Everyone and Welcome, Come on in and make yourself cozy. You can do this!
Went home, made it about an hour and had to lay down, next thing I know I'm moaning and groaning trying to move myself into the bathroom about 11:30PM. Got dressed for bed, and spent the next every two hours waking, moaning, walking and peeing. Popped some Norcos in the middle of the night so there goes some of my stash. Couldn't help it, this **** hurts.
I have been off the Zolpidem for 1 1/2 years now and still suffer from memory loss, I am seeing a neurologist now and he's testing me for dementia because of the Ambien(Zolpidem). I think these pills need to be removed from the shelves.. I missed my appointment I had with him last week because I FORGOT I had it.

html A Warning About Milk Thistle and Drug Interactions The seeds of the milk thistle plant are commonly used by some individuals in the hope of protecting the liver from damage caused by hepatitis viruses as well as alcohol and other substances. Compounds found in milk thistle -sylibin, sylimarin - act as antioxidants and also stimulate the repair of the liver. But now it appears that these and possibly other compounds in milk thistle can have other, potentially harmful effects.
In April 2007, a generic form of Ambien became available. It is called Zolpidem...and it's alot cheaper than the original. So, if you need to keep your scripts somewhat affordable....

I've used milk thistle, and Sho-Saiko-To, a Japanese hep c treatment...The milk thistle helps the liver to detoxify and slow damage, the SST actually knocks the hep c down and repairs the liver, but neither one get rid of it...Hep C damages more than your liver -it can attack and effect just about all your body systems...it weakens your immune system, causes memory loss, arthritis, nerve pain and some autoimmune problems...It can cause bile duct, diabetic/ pancreatic issues, and GI disturbances.
Hi Everyone, We're so glad to see you here. Please come in and make yourself at home.
People with stage 3 liver disease should treat their hepatitis C before there liver disease gets worse and impacts the chances of SRV. Point 9. Your liver is still functioning normally and will heal itself when you get rid of the hep C. That is the purpose of treatment. Point 14. IL28B test is irrelevant is most cases of hepatitis C. It doesn't change the statistics of SVR that much except in a few very particular cases of disease. Dr.

Hi Tramadol Warriors, Many people have come here for many years, giving support and getting support. Because I still believe that Tramadol is unique in it's ... terror and torture of humans, this thread continues. The people who can understand what you are going thru are the people who have kicked it and there's people here who come back to lend a hand. You also will never need an understanding ear as much. You can do it. You can quit. You do not need to be a slave to Tramadol.
