Zoloft vs prozac drugs

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft vs prozac drugs

zoloft

Avatar n tn well I have to say, after 3 tough weeks of severe nausea, lightheadedness, dizziness, headaches, and dry mouth, I had to stop Wellbutrin and will be going back to prozac. If Zoloft helped with your depression, than there is a chance Wellbutrin won't work, because the brain chemistry problem that needs to be addressed is the serotonin problem. I hope you have better luck than I did.
415867 tn?1323365503 Newer antidepressants don’t have the same side effect. While Paxil and Zoloft do cause some weight gain, other SSRIs, like Prozac, Celexa and Lexapro, don’t. For Paxil and Zoloft, the weight gain can add up to five to 40 pounds a year. Some people do experience weight gain with Lexapro or Celexa, but most don’t. In this case, it is not a surprise to have idiosyncratic responses, since the chemical structure of all the SSRIs is so similar.
2064754 tn?1333375663 re first on it, however, and it makes me feel very tired so I take it at night. A friend of mine is on Prozac, which works awesome for her. When coupled with some other drugs, it can make you hear voices, I know she had that problem. Of course, make sure you talk to your psychiatrist and determine if you really need medication or if you can go without it. Many people medicate without a second opinion. Most don't even need the medication, they can go through other forms of therapy.
Avatar f tn A lot of people don't get withdrawal. A lot do. Those two drugs aren't the worst for withdrawals. Prozac stays in the body for about a month, whereas the other ssris such as Zoloft leave in a matter of a day or less. So if there is going to be a withdrawal from Prozac, it's usually so long after quitting that shrinks probably don't attribute it to the Prozac.
Avatar f tn Effexor (an SNRI as mentioned above) is also a tough one to get off, compared to other ADs. Lexapro, Zoloft, Celexa and Prozac are typically the easier tolerated ADs (again, everyone is different). I personally would recommend sticking with the SSRIs vs the SNRIs for anxiety, because due to the fact that their primary mechanism of action affects norepinephrine (aka adrenaline), they are quite activating, and can cause more anxiety.
Avatar f tn Not working again anaway!
Avatar f tn My friend went from years on Paxil to Zoloft with no problems. Depression & anxiety often re occur in our life. Some of us are just prone to it. You did nothing wrong switching meds/trying others. I took prozac in college and it worked like a charm. 15 yrs later I had another bout of anxiety and depression and tried it again and it did nothing sadly.
Avatar f tn thanks for the response. anyone taking zoloft? at this point i want to take an anti-depressant that works and doesn't upset my stomach. when i increased the Prozac to 40mg, my stomach objected. I can't tolerate most of the drugs even thought i take meds for my stomach to help with the pain.
Avatar m tn I just wanted to get feedback on the best long-term SSRI-type drugs (Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, etc.) you all might have tried. Do they ever work at all? I suffer from stress-related generalized anxiety and occasional panic attacks. This has also, I believe, helped to increase my typical blood pressure readings to above normal (very healthy 28-year-old, otherwise. I work out, am at healthy weight, etc.).
20632981 tn?1503687567 Now she wants me to give Prozac a try, but she said I needed to completely stop Zoloft before taking the Prozac. Is this going to be safe or will the Prozac kick in, in place of the Zoloft because they are both SSRIS?
Avatar m tn Yes unfortunately antidepressants are often related to weight gain. Sounds like you got it right with Prozac because Prozac and Zoloft are two antidepressant that are supposed to have the less impact on your weight.
Avatar n tn m really hesitant to switch, especially that whole transitional part between going off the Effexor and going on Zoloft. I also feel that both drugs are category "C" drugs meaning their neither good nor bad for the fetus, so really, is there an advantage to Zoloft? Any thoughts? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Both of these are two of the most difficult meds out there, especially when you want to stop taking them. I'd go with ssris first since snris can be very stimulating, or tricyclics, or just try therapy and see if you can do it that way. I don't think either of these will give you tremors, that's usually the mood disorder drugs, but side effects are peculiar to the individual, they don't necessarily go along with the med. What's easy for one is hard for another.

Avatar m tn I too notice a difference in how I feel taking Zoloft vs. Sertraline. I like Sertraline better though because I don't feel as numbed out and my sex drive is not affected.
Avatar f tn What you're now on is Prozac. Two problems potentially here. First, you can't just quit Zoloft -- you need to taper off it as most people get some withdrawal from quitting these meds. That most likely explains your symptoms more so than the Prozac. Often, at the tail end of a taper down, Prozac will be used to help when withdrawal is bad because it's considered easier to stop taking, but that's only at the very end of the taper.
977053 tn?1248490023 I WAS WONDERING IF THERE IS ANY MEDS THAT CAN BE ADDED TO ZOLOFT TO HELP WITH PANIC ATTACKS? I HAVE BEEN ON ZOLOFT FOR A YEAR AND IT IS NOT HELPING WITH THE ATTACKS I HAVE THEM WHILE DRIVING AND BEING IN A CAR ITS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR NO MEDS HAVE HELPED IVE BEEN ON EFFEXOR,PROZAC,PAXIL. IWHEN I WAS ON PROZAC THAT IS WHEN IT HAPPENED NO CLUE WHY I WONDERED IF MAYBE I WAS ALLERGIC AND THATS WHAT CAUSED IT I DONT KNOW NO DOCS SEEM TO KNOW.
225237 tn?1333138999 I have been given two different prescriptions an I'd like to see which one you would recommend... Prozac or zoloft??!! I have anxiety an I think it's to the point of trying meds.
Avatar n tn About 5 months ago I was prescribed Prozac, it did nothing for me so I was prescribed Zoloft instead. It worked really well. When I was feeling great I decided to independently take myself off the drugs. The withdrawal was really nasty, but I got through it. Apparently, I still need the Zoloft because I am starting to feel the suicide thoughts come back. I tried taking my regular dose (150 mg) a couple of days ago. (after being off zoloft for probably one month).
Avatar f tn Zoloft is in a class of drugs called SSRIs, which are known ti cause the miserable sweats in some people. I first had my doctor prescribed Ciproheptadine and it worked so well that the sweats were totally gone in one week. Unfortunately, it caused me to gain 7 lbs in about 2 month so I found another drug called Benztropine that has also helped. I passed through menopause 12 years ago, so I knew my sweats were not related to that miserable thing!
Avatar f tn I think you made a good choice. Lexapro is literally the only SSRI I've taken that has not caused severe side effects. I have a very difficult time with drugs and this one was a godsend for me. (I've tried Celexa, Zoloft, Paxil, & Effexor.) I took the generic for a month and didn't notice any difference in it's effectiveness versus Lexapro.
Avatar f tn Well both Prozac and Zoloft take weeks to kick in fully. What was your side effect on Prozac?
Avatar m tn Also, you did not have any sexual side effects with Prozac? I was given Zoloft to treat anxiety and depression. My energy level is so bad that I am having trouble getting out of my apartment. Will the prozac boost my energy level? Looking forward to your reply.
4173517 tn?1350598701 zoloft/sertraline is an SSRI that can cause mania to bipolars. Rule no 1 don't ever take any antidepressant except associated with a mood stabilizer or an antipsychotic. If your doctor put you on zoloft alone and he said you have bipolar disorder, then I am afraid you should check his degree. I am SURE he is is not a doctor at all, let alone pdoc. Zoloft is one of the strong SSRI of course effexor is worse especially in withdrawals but zoloft is also bad. It's only 10 years old.
