Zoloft vs lexapro side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft vs lexapro side effects

zoloft

Avatar f tn t even take a Sudafed without being jittery and feeling strange. Granted, we are all different, but with that being said, I had virtually no side effects from Lexapro. Celexa is very close in chemical makeup, but that one didn't work well for me for my anxiety. I know it does for others, with minimal side effects, so it may be a good choice.
Avatar f tn Zoloft, like other SSRI's, often makes anxiety worse before it gets better. Sometimes a doctor will prescribe something like Klonopin (which is basically a longer-lasting benzo like Ativan or Xanax) to take along with the SSRI for the first 2-3 weeks to help keep those temporary negative side effects at bay, then wean the patient off of them about the time the SSRI benefits kick in. Also, it is often recommended to "start low, go slow" with an SSRI.
Avatar f tn lexapro pooped out after many years. i am menopausal and having severe anxiety attacks. ativan for temp. since it's highly addictive. what is better celexa vs zoloft. am confused and scared on stopping ativan and lexapro then adding another med on top of it all. plus i gotta go back to work after the labor day weekend.
1295419 tn?1276822872 I like the effects of the Lexapro mentally, but just curious if anyone else had similar side effects and if so, if they went away or you had to start taking something else? I was on Zoloft before the Lexapro but had to stop taking it because of urinary issues it was causing. Any advice?
581954 tn?1223391496 I use to take lexapro, but now on Zoloft, but anyways... the only thing I didnt like about lexapro is that I was always tired and had problems waking up in the morning on time for work... I have to get up at 4:30am in the morning and I would sleep right through... it is a good med... but the one that I like the best is Zoloft... it causes a little probs on getting up, but not as bad... I have also taken welbutrin and xanix...
Avatar m tn I have been on 10mg Lexapro since November and have had relief but also have had some side effects. So my Psychiatrist suggested Zoloft. I just started 12mg of Zoloft this week. I will slowly taper of the Lexapro and increase the Zoloft. It is my understanding thru many posts that when starting these meds you may have some increased anxiety at first but it fades in time. I have been also prescribed a very low dosage of Kolonopin .25mg to assist me with any axiety during the transition.
Avatar f tn ve tried Zoloft before and it was not bad but I had some side effects and swapped. Personally I think Zoloft and Lexapro tend to be a bit agitating, so they may be more useful for someone who is more depressed than anxious. As to side effects, until you try it you won't know, sometimes you will notice some side effects in the first week. If you persevere with these side effects it takes around 4-6 weeks before the full effects of the medication takes place.
415867 tn?1323365503 I always weight the side effects vs. the rewards of any medication I put into my body. For me, the advantages of SSRIs like Zoloft, Lexapro, etc., outweigh the negatives. Keep working at it and definitley keep an open line of communication with your doctor about it. Keep us posted!
2198057 tn?1338531205 Try getting another prescription for something else like Lexapro or Welbuturin. To many side effects with zoloft. In the meantime try to get some low dose zanax to calm your nerves until you get different meds. Remember anxiety is an over exhagerrated nervous system that needs to be nourished and medicated because of imbalances in the brain. Does this run in your family?
Avatar f tn Hello there! What you describe can happen during medication changes. It is probably a combination of coming off the Lexapro and possibly a few side effects of the Zoloft. You should notice improvement after a week or two. If the side effects are bothersome, ask your doc about possibly prescribing a short term anti-anxiety med (like Xanax, Ativan) to help with the side effects. That's a pretty typical approach to managing the side effects or medication adjustment issues.
Avatar f tn I have been on Lexapro for a while, but due to some side effects I am switching. I am exhausted on Lexapro. I cannot get through the day without needing a nap. I can barley keep my eyes open through the day. This is unlike me. I also am having slight nausea. It's also not helping me as much as I'd like for anxiety, although it has been great for my depression. My doc wanted to switch me to Prozac.
Avatar f tn when I was 1st put on it, the warnings w the med said not to take it in the 3rd trimester. My OB said the side effects are minimal to baby after delivery & weighing benefits (momma not dealing w PPD) over the risks, benefits are far greater. She daid baby tends to be more sleepy & not wanting to eat but this only lasts for about 3 days.
Avatar f tn I have a very hard time tolerating most drugs, but Lexapro never caused me any side effects, except maybe some initial tiredness. I also felt naseaus on Zoloft, but like I said, Lexapro was great.
Avatar f tn I experienced the most significant side effects at about the same time period on zoloft that you are. Some good folks on here, plus my psychiatrist, advised me to wait at least 4-6 weeks, because it takes time for the meds to level out in your system. I'm on day 55 on zoloft and all my side effects are gone. Just my experience, though, yours may be different. I'd give it a solid 2 more weeks. Keep focusing on good things - what is better vs. what is worse.
Avatar m tn I too have severe anxiety, although in my case it came on strong post partum. I am trying to conceive again and know that I probably require medication on an ongoing basis, so have asked an awful lot of questions about this issue. It is always risk vs. benefit. I think in a perfect world we wouldn't have to take anything during pregnancy. The reality is that many people suffer from issues like yours and mine, and other things that can even require narcotics, etc.
Avatar f tn Ive recently been diagnosed with major depressive disorder and my doctor wants me to take medication. It's also contributing to an excessive weight gain. I looked up the effects of Lexapro and a lot of the side affects concerned me so my dr suggested Zoloft which doesn't look as bad. Has anyone taken these medications or know anyone who did?
Avatar f tn Probably a question for your psychiatrist. When you went up to 40 did any side effects increase or did you get any new ones? The maximum recommended dose is 30mg, and most top out at 20. I know when I went up to 30 there were weird side effects. So a question -- did your psychiatrist taper you off the Lexapro as slowly as you needed or did you just quit and switch? The emotional wreck part might be a withdrawal reaction if you just switched, as no two drugs work exactly the same.
Avatar n tn t like the side effects)...I was a little hesitant to try Wellbutrin since I had success with Prozac in the past, which works on Serotonin (like Zoloft) and Wellbutrin works on Dopamine (a completely different drug)...well I have to say, after 3 tough weeks of severe nausea, lightheadedness, dizziness, headaches, and dry mouth, I had to stop Wellbutrin and will be going back to prozac.
20632981 tn?1503687567 My question is, does Prozac have low side effects like Zoloft but does it work better? And should I be taking a SSRI or SNRI for depression and anxiety, what works better with less side effects?
396099 tn?1216254986 i have tried most all AD's since I was 19..... the zoloft has had the least side effects for me...but that is JUST ME...we are all different!
Avatar f tn Can you please help me with my problem I have been on the computer looking at all the forums about lexapro and the side effects really do scare me. Please Help.
Avatar f tn m wondering if anybody has had experience in taking Cymbalta for anxiety and depression. I took Lexapro for several years and it stopped working, so I tried Zoloft this summer, which didn't help my anxiety at all, so now I'm back on the Lexapro and Buspar. I feel better than I did a few months ago in terms of anxiety, but nowhere near as well as I did in the past, and now my depression is horrible.
Avatar f tn Both of these are two of the most difficult meds out there, especially when you want to stop taking them. I'd go with ssris first since snris can be very stimulating, or tricyclics, or just try therapy and see if you can do it that way. I don't think either of these will give you tremors, that's usually the mood disorder drugs, but side effects are peculiar to the individual, they don't necessarily go along with the med. What's easy for one is hard for another.
Avatar f tn It does tend to drive down the sex drive, but weighing the benefits vs. the side effects, would you say your relationship is better off before you were on it or for the past 6 years? I have been on Zoloft and my doc had said the same thing about trying Lexapro if I wanted to, but sometimes it is trial and error when it comes to these medications so I decided to stick with the Zoloft. It really is a personal choice with these, in my opinion.
