Zoloft use during pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft use during pregnancy

zoloft

Avatar n tn You should avoid paxil and Xanax in pregnancy however zoloft is safe. Instead of Xanax you could try benadryl it is used off label for anxiety and trouble sleeping. I would speak with your Ob and I would also see if you can find a psychiatrist who is willing to treat you while pregnant. You can't just buck up and deal, that's the nature of depression and anxiety it is a medical condition not just a poor attitude.
489656 tn?1249999983 s during late pregnancy but actually came across an article the other day that said that Zoloft and something else were the safest ones during pregnancy. Thank God my son turned out ok. You just have to weigh the benefits and the risks. Check out www.rxlist.
489656 tn?1249999983 Apparently, since then, there have been more studies done on zoloft use during pregnancy. Do some research on it. It sounds like you may need the medication to make sure you take care of yourself...anxiety during pregnancy is very unhealthy for the baby. You are more likely to have an unhealthy, fussy baby (colicky). So, I guess you'd have to do like I did...weigh the risks against the benefits and go from there. Whatever you decide, good luck!
Avatar f tn I am 20+4 and on Zoloft. I was on something much stronger before pregnancy for my anxiety n depression. I made it thru the first trimester and had to go back on something. I talked with my ob, her partnering ob and a perinatal Dr. All agreed it was much safer to be on a low dose (50mg daily) than to continue with the panic attacks n depression.
202436 tn?1326474333 I don't recommend using Zoloft during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. It can cause birth defects and it pass thru the milk. I would not recommend getting back on it and rather go with a therapy to help you cope with depression.
Avatar m tn Thank you so much for your reassuring words. I think I should have clarified my situation more. This is not my first baby. It will be no.4 for us which we are very happy about. After I had my son a year ago I had very bad anxiety and depression and my ob at the time gave me zoloft. The anxiety eventually went away and I accredited that to the zoloft, so remai ed on it.
Avatar n tn Is Zoloft or Librium safe during pregnancy? Are there any antidepressents that are safe during pregnancy?
958812 tn?1268764172 I actually stayed on Zoloft during my entire pregnancy. I maintained my dose of 75mg The entire time as well. I Talked to my Dr. about stopping in the 3rd trimester(due to the risk of the baby being born addicted) and she told me that in all her years of dealing with women on Zoloft during pregnancy, she hadnt seen a baby have a problem and that she felt the benefit outweighed the risk for me. My baby was born completely healthy..no problems at all.
Avatar f tn s better to NOT take Zoloft during pregnancy. That being said, a lot of women take an antidepressant during their pregnancies with no issues. Keep in mind too, that these meds are fairly new on the market, so any long term issues really cannot be determined yet. There really aren't any definitive studies about the long term effects on children born to mothers who were taking Zoloft during pregnancy.
202436 tn?1326474333 If you will be stressed out signficantly during the pregnancy if you quit, then that might outweigh the use of the pills. You definitely do NOT want to go off AD's "cold turkey". Besides the brain zaps, it is very stressful for you and the baby. If the doctor suggests you remove the Zoloft, he should titrate you down slowly (say, if you were on 50 mg, then go to 25 for a few days and then 10 for a few days, etc).
Avatar f tn Hi, I took zoloft during the 3rd tri of my 2nd pregnancy due to the fact I got PND after my first. I took it as a precausion to make sure that if my hormones dropped after the delivery I would already have something working to help with the anxiety and depression. I know zoloft in the right dose is fine during pregnancy and bf but in my experience it does not work as fast for anxiety and you have to be taking it for at least 2 weeks, building up the dosage for it to become effective.
1173196 tn?1292916490 I was just looking at the Zoloft site (coincidentally, not because of your question) and saw there was some suggestion of inhibition of growth in babies when Zoloft is taken during pregnancy. This blew my mind because I took 50 mg a day during pregnancy, and my son weighed in at 6 lb. 12 oz. at birth, surprising me a little because that seemed just a bit small.
331213 tn?1217164831 Lexapro and Zoloft are two of the preferred options and you can breast feed while taking these, Paxil is now a Class D drug and should NOT be taken during pregnancy, and Prozac is safe to take during pregnancy BUT is expressed in breast milk and has a long half life so this is NOT recommended if you are considering breast feeding.
1600750 tn?1297568464 I took a very small dose all through my pregnancy. No effect on my child. The RE's office told me it is not researched fully during pregnancy, but they had seen a lot of Zoloft pregnancies and they were not concerned that I was taking it. Admittedly, it was a small dose -- I was breaking their little pills into halves and taking one every other day.
541196 tn?1293552936 Ok I just googled "Anti-depressants during pregnancy" and here are two addresses for you with some interesting discussion: http://www.****.*** and http://www.****.***. Hope this gives you the info you need, but I would be talking to your GP about it.

Avatar f tn I was on Zoloft before I got pregnant but many of my doctors told me to quit taking it before I tried due to it not being good during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Are there ANY anxiety/depression meds that are allowed to take during pregnancy?
Avatar f tn Many studies show that a high percentage of women who discontinue their anti depressants during pregnancy end up becomming depressed and needing to resume them. Zoloft has beed fairly extensively studied during pregnancy and is perceived to be the safest of the SSRIs. If you were my patient, I would advise you to continue to use the lowest dose that works for you--while you are trying and while you are pregnant.
Avatar f tn I took Zoloft throughout my entire pregnancy. My dosage was 75mg. Zoloft is the most widely used medication of this type used in pregnancy and breastfeeding. I am not going to tell you to start up without talking to a Dr, but I am telling you is that most Dr's agree that it is safe for use in pregnancy. Good luck!!!
1173196 tn?1292916490 ve already cut my dose by half anyway. Is anyone else on zoloft or has anyone taken during their pregnancy?
