I am 26/Female, 5'4", and weight about 145 pounds. I just started on Zoloft to help with some anxiety issues I have been having. My goal is to lose about 10 pounds just for my health. I am worried about gaining weight on Zoloft and can't seem to find an answer as to whether it is the medicine that makes you gain weight, or mentally feeling better that makes you eat more and you gain weight.

I have tried many antidepression medication with severe side effects; gastritis and weight gain. I am presently on 20mg Prozac which is ok on my stomach but is ineffective with the depression and of course weight gain. I'm thinking of trying Zoloft. Does it bother your stomach. I've pretty much accepted the weight gain, but can't handle the stomach pain & depression. Ialso take 0.5mgof Ativan daily. Any advise?
I am a 42 yr old female who can't seem to lose weight. I have recently started Tricor for high triglyceride levels (1200). I have been eating healthy, lots of veggies, and limiting my calories to about 1200 per day. I do a weight loss routine on my treadmill for 30 minutes per day burning @200 calories at least 4-5 times per week. I weigh 173 pounds, which is up 3 pounds from when I started.
I have not steadily been losing this 40ish lbs, but rather i will dip in weight for example, in the past week, i was 112lbs on monday and about 4 days later i was at 109. Obviously i have not lost weight at this rate the entire time, but i do lose it in large dips, and then plateau for a while. I know that the reason for this is because i have ZERO appetite and most foods that are heavier in nutritional and protein values are repulsive to me.
today the doctor prescribed Zolft. My concerns with this drug are the fact tht there is weight lose. I believe that in persuit to be healthy and run well she also has some eating issues. She is 5'6" and her weight is down to 97 lbs. She was at 118 in March . She was running division one college until 3 weeks ago when she got injured and she rapidly became stressed and depressed. So, why would the doctor order this drug knowing that she could loose more weight? She is so thin now .

Depression is often associated with weight gain or weight lose. There are some reasons for that. The scientific reason must be that anti-depressants change how fat is stored by changing chemicals in the brain.
Weight gain is one of the most common side effects associated with many anti-depressants prescribed today.
Simply reporting that weight gain occurs with the use of a medication is not enough.
I have heard sooooo many stories of people gaining weight on Zoloft. I am quite small and gaining a few pounds makes a huge difference on me. In the first month I lost a couple pounds which is OK. I am wondering how people gain weight..... is it that your metabolism changes, or is your appetite stronger? I will not tolerate gaining a bunch of weight and I just want to know what to watch for.
I have been on Paxil for about 9 years now and have noticed a slow increase in my weight. I do drink 5 - 6 glasses of red wine per week, so I haven't been sure if the weight gain is from alcohol, or from Paxil. One thing I have directly related to Paxil is my increased hunger. I am always hungery and it is really irritating.
I've been taking 100mg of Zoloft for over 3 years now. I decided I was going to lose weight and eat healthy this year so about a 11/2 week ago someone told me that grapefruit helped with weight loss. I started drinking 2 8oz (I think) cans of juice a day for 7 days and I was adding grapefruit essential oil drops to my water. I didn't really feel different I was sweating more but I thought it was from the grapefruit working and I wasn't sleeping hardly at all.
Quitting cold turkey can be a problem full of surprises. This is a new one, but my guess is, once you're done with your body adjusting to being off the med you'll probably lose the weight -- usually weight is gained being on these meds, but withdrawal is like a short period of intense medication weirdness.
i am taking methadone and tried many different antidepressants, until finally staying with zoloft. i gained almost 40 lbs since 2011 after becoming sober. i was bound to an opiate addiction for almost 10 yrs due to chronic pain and am now 2 and a half yrs sober. i had a hypothyroidism problem as well, and was prescribed medicine to help with metabolism. to give you an update as to where i am today... i am still taking methadone for chronic pain.
just switched to cymbalta 30mg 5 days ago and feel great so far still have a little of the issues i had on zoloft but i guess the zoloft is still in my system. my question is when you switch from one to another how long does it take for the first one in my case zoloft to be out of my system???? i was on zoloft for severe anxiety but it never really made me feel at ease i still worried i was going to lose control and freak out and go crazy.
I have been on Wellbutrin for over a year and my panic attacks came back in full swing and I went to the doctor and they swiched me to Celexa and I am worried that it is going to make me gain all of the weight back that I lost from going off of Zoloft I am also worried that it is going to make me tired like Zoloft did. Has anyone experienced this before? The first day I switched I had horrible shakiness and BIG panic attacks.
Anyone have any advice or experiences to share!
