Zoloft for children with ocd

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft for children with ocd

zoloft

Avatar n tn It goes on, stating that in clinical trials there were no connections between zoloft and suicide in children either with OCD or drepression. I want to help my daughter be happy, but why would the psychiatrist place her on a medication which is not approved by the FDA??
Avatar f tn have a 5 year old son (only child) who was diagnosed with adhd and placed on adderal 5 mg. it has not worked so we have taken him off. he has also been diagnosed with ocd for constantly peeling the skin off his thumbs/fingers and now starting on his toes. the dr wants to place him on zoloft to treat the ocd. will this help with the adhd in school?? He is very smart and ahead of his class but cannot wait his turn and blurts, etc. Very active and constantly moving.
Avatar f tn What are the best medications for OCD, and has anyone had success with prozac for OCD?

Avatar m tn Yes, I have hypothyroidism, and I have had no prior OCD tendancies. I will stay the course with Zoloft and thyroid replacement therapy and hope for slow improvement. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Thanks, I just got a prescription for Zoloft so I nope it works!
Avatar m tn I'm a 44 years old man.I've come through major OCD since my childhood.I experienced the problem at the age of 7 or 8.At the age of 21 while going through severe constant panic attack I started medication with tricyclic antidepressant clomipramine.Because the result was not satisfactory I had to switch to many different antidepressants. Eventually when I started with sertraline in 1998 it changed my life for the better.
Avatar m tn I had very very very good luck with Risperdal combined with Zoloft. I was able to even come off both for 6 years without issue. That is something you need to discuss with your pdoc though and work on tapering under the pdoc's care. Anyway, I found that Risperdal was a game changer and 99.9% of my fears subsided. Best of luck!!!
Avatar m tn My doctor feels that this continual checking of my breathing is a form of OCD and for which he prescribed 25mg Zoloft with the option to up the dose in a week. For the first few days everything was fine, a new med and so a new solution. After 1 week, I'm back to where I was before I started the meds. The doctor told me that the Zoloft is supposed to mentally make me shrug-off the focus and start sleeping. Can anyone tell me if this is how Zoloft works on OCD?
Avatar f tn I am a 30 year old female that has suffered from depression, anxiety, OCD, and ADHD since childhood. I have been on at least 7 different medications over the years that have and have not worked for various symptoms; however, I can't find one that works for them all. I have been taking 50 mg of Zoloft for about 3 years and it works great for my depression and the best thing I've ever taken for my OCD, but my anxiety is worse than it has ever been.
3159640 tn?1430907300 Hello, anyone try Inositol for OCD and if so is there a recommended brand to purchase online?
Avatar m tn therefore, i took xanax and my GP gave me zoloft. one first night of zoloft i went nutts, got up in middle of night with fear of taking my own life. anyways, my wife assured me its just a bad dream. then on fourth day of zoloft i was having suicidal thoughts of huring myself and family with sever anxiety. told me wife to take me to hspital and they gave me xanax/atavan and it took the symtoms away. since then my psychiatrist told me to take xanax 0.
Avatar m tn I currently work with developmentally delayed children doing behavioral modification. We work with children who have autism, along with aggression, self injurious behaviors, hyperactivity, and a whole slew of other mental illnesses. What are his behaviors at home? Is home time carefully structured, or does he get to do or have whatever he wants? Are his sensory needs being met at school? Is "sensory needs" a familiar term to you?
Avatar f tn I use Zoloft and find it helps me tremendiously. I use to take Prozac, I've been dealing with OCD/GAD for 23 years. But it was time for something different, that happens. The side effect do go away in time, and I think its worth going through a little to get so much better. Some time doctors may have to try a couple different things to get the right thing for you so don't get discouraged. I did take Effexor one time and it did not help me out at all.
Avatar f tn My five year old son was diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, ODD and Anxiety last year after he was BAKER ACTED for saying he wanted to kill himself. They started and currently have him taking Zoloft 25mg and Metadate 10mg, they are not working. When he takes the two together whether at the same time or at separate hours he is worse off then when we started. It seems like they counter act each other.
Avatar f tn I posted this in the Anxiety forum, but hoped I'd get some help from here. I have been on Zoloft for years (on and off). I had to go back on it in January after a 6 month break. My anxiety got so bad I was having severe panic attacks. This time when I went on the Zoloft it had the opposite effect....it was more stimulating that calming for me and I'm not sure why. Neither is my doctor. I also have OCD and it increased my OCD by 10x almost immediately.
411032 tn?1202665491 I also agree that you brought up being gay for a reason. Maybe deep down you feel guilty for being gay for some reason or another, and this is an issue you need to deal with.
1665434 tn?1365238898 i have ocd i have been put on zoloft for about a year now at 200mg i have been on theses tables before and went off them but as i said i am back on them a year now and feeling very bad what should i do
Avatar f tn I dont understand why its happening, i think that kind of thing is disgusting. Also i have always been great with children, i have a nephew who i love more than anything. The thought of hurting someone like that makes me sick, really, it makes my stomach hurt and i throw up.
Avatar m tn I'm prescribed 50mg Zoloft, do you think on a day where my OCD is heavily bothering me, that it be a problem to take two 50MG doses?
Avatar f tn The only medications I have tried for OCD is Paxil and Zoloft. I had to go off Paxil because it made me gain a lot of weight. The Zoloft works, but only at a really high dose, 300mg. If you also combine it with a benzo, like Kolonopin, I find it works fairly well. There are 6 or 7 SSRI medications that treat OCD. Most of these have to be on high dosages to help with OCD specificially. I'm sorry that none of those medications worked for you.
Avatar n tn hello, i was diagnosed with ocd. ive been on zoloft for 5 months on-going. it's nice and helpful. i used to have intrusive sexual/aggressive/religious agressive thoughts. now i have shifted from these to having random songs stuck in my head and it's been horrible for my sleeping. i have only had about 4 hours of sleep for the past two days because of this. ive been reading books, and stuff but its stuck. i wake up in the morning. and the song goes back on loop what do i do?
Avatar m tn My wife has mild OCD and has problems with obsessisive thoughts, perfectionist tendencies and mood swings. We're looking for some advice on medications that are known to be effective in treating these symptoms. She's been on Effexor for a couple of years which has been tremendously successful but she had to stop taking it recently, (due to it causing high blood pressure), and we discovered the dark, ugly side of this medication.
Avatar m tn Doctor prescribed me Zoloft (well the generic) and I started taking it yesterday. 50 mgs for the first week then if all is well 100 mgs. Today my pupils have been huge all day. Was also a little jittery and felt weird. Anyone else on Zoloft? What about the pupils? This is my first time taking an SSRI.
Avatar m tn Hi guys this is really weird. For the past 2 weeks I have been taking Zoloft for my depression whether it's the Zoloft or not my depression has started to get better I've had a few symptoms like nausea but nothing serious. This morning though a really weird and disturbing thought came into my head. It was like my brain was telling me I should kill myself. It wasn't actual voices like schizophrenia is but It was kind of like an idea.
3159640 tn?1430907300 Basically it is believed that the neurotransmitter serotonin is decreased in the brains of people with OCD and so SSRIs help to stop the uptake of it and allow more to be available to our cells. There are many, many SSRIs out there and really it is a trial and error type of thing. If you are stalling out on zoloft then talk to your doctor about your other options but remember that you may need to give each one a good 4 to 6 weeks before you decide if it is working or not.
