Zoloft and weight gain or loss

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft and weight gain or loss

zoloft

Avatar f tn t seem to find an answer as to whether it is the medicine that makes you gain weight, or mentally feeling better that makes you eat more and you gain weight. Can you address this please? Thank you!
459279 tn?1206997145 I was on Zoloft 50 mg for 6 months, blood pressure was up and still was having anxiety and trouble sleeping, so my Dr increased the Zoloft to(100mg daily) and recently added buspar, 3x daily, I do feel better except my weight is going up even with exercise which is causing allot of new stress. Would you agree the meds are increasing my weight? I'm a while make 46, 5'11 199 lbs.
Avatar n tn I went from 127 to 123 after taking Zoloft. Some people gain weight, some lose weight, and others dont experience a change in weight at all. Are you getting plenty to drink? Losing 7 Ibs over about a week is more likely water loss than fat/muscle loss.
Avatar f tn Or just the Zoloft? I took Zoloft over ten years ago for a year and a half and did not experience this weight gain. Any advice would be great! Thanks!
Avatar m tn Yes, weight loss can be a side effect of Zoloft. Stop eating all the junk food, you're setting yourself up for future health problems. Also, you may have lost some muscle mass due to no longer lifting weights. If you continue to lose weight, contact your doctor about it. Take care.
Avatar f tn I noticed when the Zoloft added I started having the GI side effects (read diarrhea here!) and the sexual side effects (ED problems and etc,,,). The first time I took zoloft I lost weight then gained weight. This time , I've been working out and have avoided the weight gain so far.
1305597 tn?1275336446 What if you are eatting a 1500 calorie a day and burning the amount of calories to loose weight...do they still make you gain weight? Or is it because while on the medication you just eat more? What if you control your food intake do you still gain weight. I am on cymbalta and I am never hungry but it is giving me other bad side effects so I am afraid the doctor is going to change it and all the other options I have read about all say weight gain.
Avatar f tn Most weight loss aids, won't help you lose a lot of weight; or if they do, chances are that you will gain it all back again once you stop using the product. You would be much better off to implement some small lifestyle changes, such as drinking water instead of soda, eliminate sugary foods, as well as those made from white flour; switch to whole grains, brown rice, low/no fat dairy or other small changes. They don't all have to be made at once.
527657 tn?1214051850 Hello, I have been on Zoloft for nearly 6 months and I too was worried about weight gain... I haven't gained any weight. Since I was worried about it I kept good track of my weight and appetite to notice any changes. It cannot change your metabolisum so the weight gain would be a result of increased appetite and therefore won't "sneak up on you".
1756969 tn?1332437163 my dr told me if that doesnt work than he suggested lexapro (mood stabilizer) and i know mood stabilizers cause intense weight gain.
Avatar f tn I run competitively and have been on Zoloft. I am not sure if the weight loss is due to the drug. I would suspect it could be from depression, pressure, etc, but that weight is definitely not healthy. Most people here on this forum will actually talk about weight gain while on these types of medications. Is your daughter talking with a counselor? If not, it may time to do this, especially with the weight loss...please keep us posted!
Avatar f tn A few pounds and then it stops? Or do you continue to gain more weight? I have a couple thoughts on weight gain. If you are still depressed you might be stress eating or eating to relieve some of your symptoms. Weight gain or loss is a common symptom of depression. Taking more medicine could actually help you out. I typically lose my appetite when I get depressed. There's always a correction period when I start to feel better and get my appetite back.
Avatar f tn Most people switch to Wellbutrin but another very good choice is ask your doctor about prozac..it works well and there is no weight gain or sexual interest loss.
Avatar f tn Hi I switched from Fluoxetine to Citalopram about 6 months ago as the Fluoxetine was making me gain weight. Since I've been on Citalopram I've put on even more, and am now about 2 stone (14kg) heavier than I was before I started. I don't want to come off ADs as they're helping me so much, but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with any more weight gain. Has anyone experienced weight gain with certain antidepressants then been able to lose with a different one?
Avatar f tn I have read that wellbutrin is safe to take during pregnancy and can cause weight loss (I am talking weight loss before pregnancy), so if it works as an antihistamine as well, it might be perfect for me. Thoughts??
Avatar n tn Keep in mind you could gain weight on Zoloft or any ssri, and your weight gain on Paxil has been minimal -- I gained 50 pounds over several years on it. And be careful going off it, it can be difficult. Do it slowly and carefully.
Avatar f tn I was wondering, at what dosage did you notice a gain or loss of weight? I've read about people either gaining or losing weight, but no one says what dosage they're on. I'm taking 25mg right now and the doc and I were talking of moving me to 50mg. Standing at a whopping 5ft, I of course worry about the weight gain.
1872071 tn?1320287532 Has anyone else taken a tiny dose of zoloft like 12.5 mg and noticedweight gain? Or do you think the increase in tummy fat has to do with my on going sleep issues? Been having episodes of insomnia for a couple of months now. Any answers are appreciated.
Avatar n tn I started taking Zoloft many years ago when I weighed about 105 lbs. I started to gain weight immediately and gained 30 lbs. When my neurologist changed my Zoloft to Effexor because of my excessive sleepiness I lost back down to my 105 lbs within 6 months. I have to note that I was also prescribed around the same time Topamax to prevent migraines. This medication is known to help people lose weight and is actually prescribed as such in some countries.
1354136 tn?1331875317 t notice any change in my mood. In fact I feel more tired. Any ways I have read so much on zoloft and weight gain. However has anyone experienced a feeling fuller faster feeling with this med and a sense of hunger rather quickly after eating? Just wondering since that is what I'm going through. I get fuller faster on smaller amounts of food but then about an hour later it's like I haven't eaten all day.
Avatar n tn it can..any AD can have the effect of weight gain or weight loss depending It is not usually recommended to ct off of an AD...tapering down is usually the safest way to go..
1354136 tn?1331875317 Correction: Zoloft is a SSRI with no significant weight gains observed, which is rare with SSRIs.
Avatar f tn I take 100 mg generic zoloft 1x daily. I have noticed weight gain ever since my dosage was increased from 50 mg to 100 mg. Is this normal? Is there something I can do to make it stop? I eat well and exercise, but I'm not seeing any results even with increased awareness of what I eat and longer exercise bouts. I also have a history of thyroid disorders in my family so I'm thinking that might be the problem as well. Please help!
415867 tn?1323365503 Newer antidepressants don’t have the same side effect. While Paxil and Zoloft do cause some weight gain, other SSRIs, like Prozac, Celexa and Lexapro, don’t. For Paxil and Zoloft, the weight gain can add up to five to 40 pounds a year. Some people do experience weight gain with Lexapro or Celexa, but most don’t. In this case, it is not a surprise to have idiosyncratic responses, since the chemical structure of all the SSRIs is so similar.
Avatar n tn First I took Lexapro then Cymbalta and now Zoloft. My doctor keeps changing my meds because of the weight gain and every change only makes it worse. This latest change has caused me to gain about a pound a day. Since Thursday I have gained three more pounds and have been eating next to nothing. I finally convinced my doctor that I am not pigging out all day and she ha ordered a thyroid test. I'm so scared that I'm going to die from this, it's uncontrollable.
Avatar f tn Wellbutrin is for depression, not anxiety. It can cause anxiety in somebody who suffers from it because it's designed to "charge up" a depressed person. Effexor, like all snris and ssris, can cause weight gain. Whether it will for you or not you won't know until you try it. If the Zoloft worked, well, it's hard to find a med that works.
