Zoloft and losing weight

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft and losing weight

zoloft

Avatar f tn i stopped taking zoloft 2 months ago at my own volition and do NOT take any SSRIs. i no longer have a thyroid problem, and no longer need to take medicine for it. i have been back in the gym as of january this year and i go to the gym for an hour a day 4x a week. the reason i stopped taking zoloft was due to heavy research and testimonials i found on womens accounts basically sharing stories that mirror my own.
Avatar f tn I am 26/Female, 5'4", and weight about 145 pounds. I just started on Zoloft to help with some anxiety issues I have been having. My goal is to lose about 10 pounds just for my health. I am worried about gaining weight on Zoloft and can't seem to find an answer as to whether it is the medicine that makes you gain weight, or mentally feeling better that makes you eat more and you gain weight. Can you address this please? Thank you!
Avatar n tn I went from 127 to 123 after taking Zoloft. Some people gain weight, some lose weight, and others dont experience a change in weight at all. Are you getting plenty to drink? Losing 7 Ibs over about a week is more likely water loss than fat/muscle loss.
Avatar f tn I recently started taking Zoloft too and I feel like I'm going to be going through the same problem that you're experiencing. I seem to have no appetite at all and I haven't even started taking 50mg yet!!! I weight train 3 days a week and try to do 2 days of cardio. When I started really having severe problems with depression and anxiety I I began to lose weight to though. I went from 170lbs to where I'm at now at about 150-155lbs.
Avatar f tn I had horrible withdrawals and I did it according to what my doctor said. I am also finally losing weight instead of gaining. Thats enough to make anyone depressed gaining all that weight.
Avatar n tn im taking abilify 2mg, adderal 30mg, and zoloft 100mg will i be able to lose weight
324184 tn?1308076203 m seeing a lot of people say zoloft helps them lose weight and they are being concerned. I am needing to lose weight and am depressed so if it helps me lose weight I will not be sad about that at all. I had a knee surgery, and I hate & rarely taking medications at all, but I have a girlfriend that takes zoloft and she says she loves how it makes her feel. If it makes me feel better along with losing weight,,,I have a lot to go before i would be concerned.
Avatar f tn I am back in zoloft and while I feel tired, I am losing weight again and feel so much better.
Avatar f tn I was wondering, at what dosage did you notice a gain or loss of weight? I've read about people either gaining or losing weight, but no one says what dosage they're on. I'm taking 25mg right now and the doc and I were talking of moving me to 50mg. Standing at a whopping 5ft, I of course worry about the weight gain.
459279 tn?1206997145 I was on Zoloft 50 mg for 6 months, blood pressure was up and still was having anxiety and trouble sleeping, so my Dr increased the Zoloft to(100mg daily) and recently added buspar, 3x daily, I do feel better except my weight is going up even with exercise which is causing allot of new stress. Would you agree the meds are increasing my weight? I'm a while make 46, 5'11 199 lbs.
1140989 tn?1429773263 Taking laxatives won't make you lose real weight. What I mean by that is that you may feel like you are losing some weight but it's only water weight. You will not lose fat by taking laxatives. They are dangerous too. You can become dehydrated and worse, your bowels can become dependent on laxatives, meaning you won't be able to go to the bathroom without laxatives.
527657 tn?1214051850 Hello, I have been on Zoloft for nearly 6 months and I too was worried about weight gain... I haven't gained any weight. Since I was worried about it I kept good track of my weight and appetite to notice any changes. It cannot change your metabolisum so the weight gain would be a result of increased appetite and therefore won't "sneak up on you".
Avatar f tn I would have to agree that medications can and will affect us differently. There are definitely pros and cons to taking meds, but other than the weight gain, did Zoloft work well for you? As Paxiled said, it can be really hard to find the right med. Also, are you currently in counseling for your anxiety?
Avatar m tn Yes, weight loss can be a side effect of Zoloft. Stop eating all the junk food, you're setting yourself up for future health problems. Also, you may have lost some muscle mass due to no longer lifting weights. If you continue to lose weight, contact your doctor about it. Take care.
Avatar f tn Or just the Zoloft? I took Zoloft over ten years ago for a year and a half and did not experience this weight gain. Any advice would be great! Thanks!
Avatar f tn I noticed when the Zoloft added I started having the GI side effects (read diarrhea here!) and the sexual side effects (ED problems and etc,,,). The first time I took zoloft I lost weight then gained weight. This time , I've been working out and have avoided the weight gain so far.
1354136 tn?1331875317 t notice any change in my mood. In fact I feel more tired. Any ways I have read so much on zoloft and weight gain. However has anyone experienced a feeling fuller faster feeling with this med and a sense of hunger rather quickly after eating? Just wondering since that is what I'm going through. I get fuller faster on smaller amounts of food but then about an hour later it's like I haven't eaten all day.
Avatar f tn I was on it years ago, the only antidepressant that gave me no weight gain and minimal side effects. I was taken off them suddenly and they were discontinued in this country. Doc never told me why or anything, i've since discovered it was because people were dying of liver failure or damage and the company no longer makes it but that there is still a generic available. Was wondering if anyone still takes it with no problems.
1033596 tn?1252519593 Now I want to lose this weight and more through diet and exercise. Other blogs state that losing weight while on these types of medications is VERY difficult. I have found this to be true. Getting started is hard because my desire for food has increased--particularly with carbohydrate rich foods. Right now I am exercising vigorously once a day, and I have cut back on my alcohol consumption by a lot. Still--I battle with snacking. Any suggestions?
1354136 tn?1331875317 Correction: Zoloft is a SSRI with no significant weight gains observed, which is rare with SSRIs.
Avatar n tn I have been on Paxil for about 9 years now and have noticed a slow increase in my weight. I do drink 5 - 6 glasses of red wine per week, so I haven't been sure if the weight gain is from alcohol, or from Paxil. One thing I have directly related to Paxil is my increased hunger. I am always hungery and it is really irritating.
462181 tn?1206581934 In the past 2 months I put my ego aside and got back on zoloft... I suffer from anxiety, that is not always manageable. I feel it is tough to lose weight. I am 5'4 and 143 lbs. I would like to lose at least 10-15. I have heard that Wellbutrin helps with weight, is this true. If not, is their an anti-anxiety med that I will not gain weight when taking?? UGH..
Avatar f tn I started therapy and started zoloft. It helped for like 6 years and then zoloft was losing its effectiveness a little so i switched to celexa and was on that for a year maybe and felt so good that I got off meds completely seven months ago. Two months ago it came back even worse. I had terrible anxiety, panic attacks, crying, isolating, no appetite. I went back on celexa for a few weeks and still didn't see results after a few weeks.
