zoloft and generalized anxiety disorder

So, I started researching it and have found that it is not generally used for someone with generalized anxiety but usually for those that have anxiety in certain situations. I wake up and go to sleep with a lump of anxiety in my chest. I also read that it is not good to use regularly for someone with asthma. Any suggestions or feedback on your experiences with this?

When I first was diagnosed I was diagnosed with depression so they put on on an SSRI and that was that. What was really going on was that I was suffering from Generalized Anxiety Disorder with a touch of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. They both come with some depression but the main component is the anxiety not the depression.

I started seeing a therapist, who diagnosed me with severe panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, agoraphobia, and hypochondriasis. I have a generalized anxiety disorder and a phobia of HIV and rabies. I went to get my blood work down and the nurse used a vacutainer to draw blood. s a great drug. I took Lexapro for eight years, until it recently stopped working, and then went on Zoloft, and now I'm back on the Lexapro. I have a very hard time tolerating most drugs, but Lexapro never caused me any side effects, except maybe some initial tiredness. I also felt naseaus on Zoloft, but like I said, Lexapro was great.

I was taking Zoloft for about 2 years, and felt wonderful, then I noticed a huge weight gain of 20 pounds and noticed that my hair was starting to recede. Many people are placed on antidepressants before they even start treatment. Either of these drugs (Paxil or Zoloft) could be used for anxiety and either could be used for depression. I know there are more but without researching I cannot remember the names. I think if you tell your doctor you want something that is not addicting, hopefully he/she will know not to prescribe benzodiazipines but rather proscribe a medication like Zoloft.

i have had panic and pvcs for years and ive been on zoloft (for 10 years and it eventually stopped working) prozac, wellbutrin and lexapro.unfortunately, one of the side effects of lexapro is palpitations and in my case it made them worse.i'm muddling through now on no antidepressants, just some ativan as needed for anxiety. i hope lexapro works for you better than it did for me. and if it doesnt, there are tons of other ssris to try!good luck!

Therapy has done wonders for me to understand the way my mind processes anxiety symptoms and has taught me how to deal with them. Also the frequency of my panic attacks have decreased since going through therapy and coming to this forum has helped . My concern for you is your need for a Dr. you can trust. Maybe you should consider going to a Dr. that has a good reputation. Now take good care of yourself and keep us informed of how you are doing.

t degrees in the theology and I am a minister but because of my anxiety and bipolar disorder. I am no longer comfortable working in that capacity, but I'd do enjoy helping other people that are going through something I have already gone through that is my outlets. If I focus upon myself I start to have the worst anxiety and panic attacks that just cripple you. But by sharing with others and hoping they can find peace with their disorder, it helps me Heal. so ive been taking it for a long time. i have severe panic disorder with generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder. i know im addicted to xanax, the max dosage is up to 6 mg a day, believe it or not. ive been suffering severely again the last year and have been given many diff. antidepressants, lexzapro,paxil,pristique,invega,and now just stopped remeron and am starting all over with a low dose of zoloft 25mg.

I am going to assume that the problem you have is what is called generalized anxiety (as opposed to panic disorder, or obsessive compulsive disorder or posttraumatic stress disorder). Broadly these are the options - 1. Benzodiazepines like lorazepam (Ativan), diazepam (Valium), clonazepam (Klonopin), etcetera.
