Zofran when pregnant

Common Questions and Answers about Zofran when pregnant

zofran

My doctor and I agreed that the benefits outweigh the risks. Zofran for pregnant women has been available for almost 20 years if it was as bad as they say we wouldn't have just been hearing about ambulance chasing lawsuits. I had severe morning sickness with my daughter to the point I couldn't keeps down spoons of water eve for my entire pregnancy I was on it so me and baby didn't die. This time around u was o. It until I was 22 weeks along. My children are perfect.
I saw a commercial today saying that if you were pregnant and took zofran that you and your child could get a financial compensation. The Zofran caused the baby to get cleft pallet. Has anyone heard of any issues with zofran?? I was on that for the longest time for my sickness!
i mean think about it doc used to think it was ok to smoke and drink when you were pregnant....
So I've been seeing all this negative stuff about zofran causing all kinds of birth defects to unborn babies. I'm 30 weeks pregnant & I've been taking zofran my entire pregnancy, so it's worrying me. Has anyone else taken zofran? What are your opinions on it?
I was prescribed Zofran 4mg. I took one yesterday and it was a miracle drug! However, when I looked up the safety online, I get mixed messages. I don't like to take anything while pregnant. I very rarely even took a Tylenol with my first two. I decided that I would only take the Zofran when I has somewhere to go and had to feel better. The problem is that today I didn't take one and I feel terrible. I have vomitted three times and don't feel like eating or dealing with my kids.

I am almost 36 weeks with my first baby and I took zofran and still do when I develop nausea. It really has helped me , but on the other hand everyone is different . I say just try it and if it doesn't work then tell your doctor and they will give you something different .(: Hope you feel better .
Just thought i should share cuz apparently some women who have taken zofran while pregnant had babies with cleft lips or paletes http://www.nationalinjuryhelp.
Ladies dont take zofran!! The medicine used for morning sickness. There was a recall. It doubles the risk of birth defects when used in the first trimester. I'm not a dr/nurse or in the medical field of any sort... i saw it on tv and Googled the recall is all.
I asked my consultant the same question and she said no medication can be described as safe in pregnancy as no pregnant women will submit their pregnant bodies to a medical study (understandably!). I am now 34+5 and my little girl is very healthy and while I've lost a lot of weight in this prehnancy she is measuring large for GA, so very like my first. I know that I would have had major issues without issue at as I couldn't keep water or food down, not even my own spit.
I am devastated that this medicine was prescribed off label for pregnant women when it was NEVER approved!
Birth defects happen even without taking any meds. Stillborn babies happen when the mom did everything by the book and DIDN'T take Zofran. Rather than use a commercial or somebody posting something in an app to decide whether to take it, use your own judgement.
My doctor prescribed me zofran as well, when I went in to the appointment to get it prescribed I told her about the commercial and she said that its usually not that common, I started taking it my 2nd trimester so she said that it wouldnt necessarily effect me and the baby
If you are worried, you can call your local pregnancy hotline. Zofran is the only thing keeping me eating and drinking while pregnant. I ended up in the ER without it. LOVE IT!
-( ask you doctor about a pic line for iv zofran at home. In my opinion there's nothing better than zofran fur this and they c made mec try everything else before zofran nothing helped even nasty suppository!
It does work wonders though, I only take it when absolutely necessary. I've taken Zofran a few times with all three pregnancies.
What can I do for my morning sickness when my zofran only works for about 45 minutes? Crackers, water, eating, or carbonated drinks are not helping me either.
do you think I will still have side effects when I'm done if I take it slow?? and have you ever taken Zofran?? I haven't used it yet.
i have no energy!!! when i was pregnant with my son i remember it being bad...but at least then i could crawl in bed and be alone...its just so hard running around after a 2 1/2 year old...i feel bad for complaining...sorry to be so negative...its just so bitter sweet. I have one more appointment with my RE this week then i go back to obgyn...at least he knows me and my history. its gonna be a long road...i am only 7w2d...the great news is my hormones are working...lol..
While I was pregnant I was prescribed Zofran and my son was born with a severe deformation to both feet. I just saw on tv that there is a lawsuit going on concerning this. I could not get to a pen fast enough so if anyone has the number please let me know ASAP. Thank you. Please don't anyone take Zofran for any reason during pregnancy.
As if u don't have enough to worry about when ur pregnant now ever day u have to see commercials about how ur baby might have a birth defect if u took zofran!! Ugh...
When I was pregnant with my daughter I took Zofran because I had "morning" sickness ALL DAY FOR 9 MONTHS!!! She is a happy, healthy 2 year old now!
Ok im sure all of us have heard by now about the risks of taking zofran while pregnant and how their is a large lawsuit being formed from women who took zofran and their child was born with cleft pallet or lip. I am now 27 weeks and 4 days. I remembered that when i got in a car accident back in November i was perscribed perkaset for pain, and ondansentron (zofran) for nausea from taking the perks. At that time i was either 12 or 13 weeks.
Zofran is wonderful and safe, but expensive.
And I know people that have said that they lived off that stuff when they were pregnant and their babies were perfectly fine. This is one of the most common pregnancy drugs and now all of the sudden dangerous? I think I'm going to ask my doctor about it at my next appointment.
What's wrong with these people? Unbelievable. I was given Zofran when I was pregnant with twins, and I was reassured that it was fine to take. No one told me that it wasn't approved by the FDA for pregnant women. I'm appalled. My daughter aspirates when she drinks. This has been an issue since birth. This condition greatly increases her chances of getting pneumonia. It's been no picnic managing her condition. How do I know if this wasn't due to the Zofran.
I walked down stairs after trying to eat my luch(without success) to talk to my OB(I work in a hospital) She prescibed me zofran. I read though that it should only be used when there is severe vomiting to the point where the woman is dehydrated. I have not been vomiting much but my nausea is terrible! Anyone know of any natural remedies for nausea before i turn to the drugs!
Never taken zofran was prescribed something else for sickness but never took it if u feel it doesn't work or u are nervous about taking it ask doc to switch u to something else I'm really not sure what is up with this zofran but from what I read it was only approved for sickness in cancer patients so not really sure why so many docs are still prescribing it to pregnant woman when there are so many other drugs out there that are approved for use in pregnant woman but all drugs have risks u just
Went to the hospital and they put Zofran in my IV, and they also prescribed it for me to take when I got home. I've been taking it for the past week. When I questioned my doctor about it, he said he knew about the risks/rumors but I should be fine, and he insisted. He said that I couldn't continue on this pregnancy without meds because it wasn't healthy for me or the baby.
