Zofran vs ondansetron

Common Questions and Answers about Zofran vs ondansetron

zofran

Avatar f tn Ondansetron is Zofran hun. Its just the generic name for zofran. Even though theres a lawsuit, id say its more of a money maker. I took it both pregnancies and my babies came out fine. Youve got to look at whether the benefits outweigh the risk with ANY medication. If youre miserable and need to eat for baby, take it. My advice is try to only take it when u really need it, not on a regular basis. Stop as soon as symptoms ease up. Lots of water too.
Avatar f tn Ondansetron is the generic for Zofran. Why would you refuse it? It's safe to take or your Dr wouldn't prescribe it to you. There's other meds out there if you don't want to take it. My Dr gave me Diclegis. It helped take the edge off the nausea.
Avatar f tn I went to the er and got ondansetron (generic for zofran) but the doc prescribed it bc I literally kept nothing but one icee a day down. I got a script for 12 and thats it. All I know is they do not prescribe it to one indivodual in large quantities and that bc it can affect and stay in your blood for so long they have to monitor how much an individual gets.
1201433 tn?1328997637 I take 8 mg every 8 hours, usually about an hour before I take my meds. You will need a prescription for it. With Zofran, do not wait until you get nauseated. Ondansetron works by blocking the 5HT3 receptors that are found in the brain and gut. This prevents the nausea messages being sent from these areas to the vomiting centre. Ondansetron therefore prevents nausea, retching and vomiting that can otherwise occur following surgery or due to cancer treatments. http://www.netdoctor.co.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed that. I believe that and zofran are the two they give pregnant women. Its a lifesaver.
Avatar f tn I have terrible morning sickness and I was given a prescription for ondansetron 4mg which is the generic version of zofran. I'm scared to take it because of the possible side effects and the warnings I've seen on TV. I don't want to take any risks when it comes to my baby. Any thoughts on this?
1201433 tn?1328997637 I just want to say it is like night and day since they gave me a script for some , started today, I was up all last night vomiting, do not suffer ask your doctor for some!!
Avatar f tn I am not happy with taking drugs while pregnant but I have lost a extrem amount of weight and it has been stressed to me medication and iv fluids are absolutely necessary. So have been taking Ondansetron (Zofran) and another prochlorperazine. I am very scared of what I have heard about these two drugs and my huge question is what medications do you pregnant women out there trust???
Avatar m tn And yes Nexium as Pepela suggested is also in the PPI class
585414 tn?1288941302 Zofran is a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. Zofran reduces the activity of the vagus nerve, which activates the vomiting center in the medulla oblongata, and also blocks serotonin receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone. It has little effect on vomiting caused by motion sickness, and does not have any effect on dopamine receptors or muscarinic receptors.
Avatar f tn See if you can get some Zofran prescribed to you. It works wonders.
Avatar m tn I just had my 7th cancer treatment Monday (but who is counting?) under general anesthesia so Ondansetron (Zofran) has been a constant companion. Whether ChemoEmbolization, Ethanol injection into a liver tumor, injecting a cylinder of gold into my tumor or my upcoming radiation cancer treatments, I count and will count on these meds to help me deal with the common side effects post surgery. Of course the IV version is preferable after surgery.
Avatar f tn No drug is 100% safe in pregnancy but ondansetron (trade name Zofran) is fairly safe. It does cause constipation. I would take it if I had severe morning sickness.
Avatar f tn Zofran! I have hyperemisis. So it's severe morning sickness until you give birth. Diclegis is ok at bed time, the phenergan made me sleepy and didn't work too well, but they both make you sleepy. Zofran does Not make you sleepy :) Also, try taking your prenatal before bed or after lunch.
Avatar f tn Hi am in my 13th week and is having bad nausea my doctor gave me this Ondansetron tables which helped a lot but am concerned about taking it. Any suggestions on should I take this medicine as it help me to work??
Avatar f tn Ondansetron is the same as zofran it works really well
Avatar f tn If its phenergan (promethizine is the generic) or zofran (ondansetron) you can take with other meds without any harm. But if you're nervous double check with your ob.
Avatar f tn Talk to your doctor about a medication called zofran (generic is called ondansetron). I'm 14 weeks with my first baby and have had constant nausea and vomiting. I was prescribed this med and it works wonders.
Avatar f tn Ive been taking ondansetron my whole pregnancy, it usually keeps it under control if I take it regularly otherwise ill be vomiting.
Avatar f tn I took Ondansetron. They're generic for Zofran.. They were 8mg dissolvable tablets & they worked great ! I never had any morning sickness but on the days I didn't feel good, these really helped.
