Common Questions and Answers about Zofran for ibs

zofran

Thanks for all the comments. I have had IBS/GERD For many years, but it was maintained with meds. Occasionally I would have a flare up but within a day it would be ok. As I said, about 8 weeks ago, I had a big stress thing happen to my family, and coincidentlly my digestive issues got the worse they ever got and still have not settled down totally. I always moved my bowels every morning, maybe not always normal but did, and if I got stressed it would send me to the bathroom..
I have suffered from IBS for years and have been dealing with trying to get it under control for a while. I have started medication (Bentyl) and its been working fairly good, the first few months of this pregnancy I had the opposite of my normal IBS attacks and was severely constipated now my diarrhea is back and Things that never bothered me before are setting me off...
My Dad has been battling awful stomach issues for six months now, and his doctors are not making progress on finding a diagnosis. He is feeling very sick, and throwing up a lot. What we originally thought was a bug back in January has worsened to the point here he has gone to the ER four times this month alone, and has lost 35 pounds from his already thin frame. Tests for barret's esophagus, divertiulitis, acid reflux, and many other common illnesses have all been normal.
The GI on call said that it might be IBS and not to eat for 15 hours…I don’t know why, I felt better and really wish I had eaten something that day. And he said to try and get into a GI as soon as I could. For the next week I still couldn’t eat anything, maybe a few crackers. Still having very bad nausea all the time and diarrhea. The only relief I could get was when I slept.
I have been on phenegran, reglan, and zofran. Nothing is working for me. I have had an upper gi, an endoscopy, an ultrasound, a hide a scan (for my gallbalder). All of these tests come back negative so we are back at square one. I cant go on like this. I miss work. I am sick non stop and I really dont know what else to do. Can anyone give me some insight?
The colonoscopy showed some IBS, hemhroids and polyps. I have taken zantac, protonix, tagamet, reglan. Zofran for the nausea none has helped. I have taken zoloft and ceprexa for mentalproblems since one doctor said it is all in my head! I have lost 20 lbs which i needed to loose. Also I have had my ears , nose and throat checked. Eyes and female parts. All in good shape. My question is could I hve gastroperisis ?
I was able to get it on Amazon. For nausea have you ever tried Zofran? Some insurance companies don't pay out well for it but I was lucky enough to be able to get it for a reasonable price. It *really* helped out the nausea and the vomitting. Phenegran is another prescrip med that works pretty well but tends to make me drowsy. For diahrrea I have used the powder Questran with decent results.
I kept telling the doc at the ER I wasn't nauseated it just comes up and I know to run for a safe place to vomit. They gave me some zofran and dilaudid and sent me home saying this was not a true emergency. They even gave me water to drink and I puked it up in less then 2 minutes with weird white tissue looking stuff. The nurse said it wasn't real vomit even after I explained that duh there's nothing in my system because I've been vomiting it all up for two weeks!!!
Luckily I work from home - as I would not be able to leave for work. I haven't left my house in over a week, it's how bad it is getting. My symptoms for the first few months were: Nausea, Indigestion, etc... then it progressed to Nausea, Vomiting, Indigestion, etc. - Then I had diarrhea/running to the bathroom 10-15 times daily.
They put down an NG tube and I was still vomiting profusely. Using phenergan and zofran for this, demerol for pain, admitted to hospital for 6 days finally discharged home. Went to my gastro doc last week and all lab work repeated, Alkaline Phosphate 185 and AST up a little 68 have to go back in 3 weeks for repeat.
I know it was on the ballot for several different areas and even in my area on legalizing it for medical purposes or banning it. I looked briefly into it and was impressed by not only how much it may help people (medically) but how carefully it is regulated when it is used medically. It is strictly done in a doctor's office and carefully monitored. It's not like they are going into a back alley somewhere and buying this from drug dealers. They also appear to monitor the amount and usage.
I would think you have since they diagnosed you with the IBS. I don't think it is just IBS. Zofran is a really strong anti-nausea drug. I would start out with just broth like chicken and rice soup or broth. Until your stomach settles. Drink lots of water or gatoraide to replenish your potassium. When you do eat stick to small very small amounts, and only veggies and fruits and a small amount of whole grains. Don't worry there are lots of protein in whole grains. How is your weight?
for the past 2 months i have had a problem with vomiting every night. i do have a history of ulcers and ibs and barrets esophagus. i do take aciphex and reglan. it happens every night about 2 or 3 in the morning. i feel fine during the day. consulted doctor. he felt that it may be associated with the bronchitis that i had a month ago. finished with antibiotics and no change. phenergan and zofran do not stop it either. please help!!
Hey I've been having stomach problems since I was a kid. I'm 25 now and still experience problems daily. My doctor prescribes me zofran which helps with nausea and helps to prevent vomiting. It's used in chemotherapy patients and works with our situation. I have ibs too. It helps quickly and works well. Some says are better than others.
She take Lomotil daily and it doesn't help, She is also on Zofran for the nausea but it doesn't help. She has just been given the Sancuso patch so we will see how that works. She is scheduled for a botox shot for her stomach to see if that helps with the gastroparesis Do you have any insight on these symptoms and if they are all connected? The diarrhea sounds like IBS but can you have IBS and gastroparesis at the same time?
My husband has had 3 years of constant nausea BAD, but no vomiting, he had ulcers gastritis but all healed, they thryed everything, IBS, meds over counter, zofran, cestamel, carafate, EVERYTHING!!! he says he feels he has an obstruction? I have tryed everything. last visit to specialist , put him on topomax, no help. said next time they would try sigmascope that goes past colon? is it POSSIBLE he can have a partial blokage for 3 years???
I'm also on Prilosec. I get nausea at times I have zofran for it and it rally helps!!! Take care and good luck.
As all the investigations have been done and are negative, a diagnosis of IBS has been made. For IBS there is no cure. But it is important to remember that some symptoms may persist or recur from time to time, despite treatment, and that IBS does not cause more serious disorders nor does it require surgery at any point of time. Depending on her symptoms, your doctor will prescribe appropriate medicines to counter the same.
Yeah I also do have IBS so that has been on overdrive lately. I wont go for a week then the next week that's all I can do. And I was sick the whole time with my son but it was tolerable and got better.
I am taking Zofran (1/2 dosage) for pretty bad m/s - and I read somewhere that Zofran can cause constipation - don't know if this is true or not. In any case, can anyone recommend something that will work on an ongoing basis? I tried milk of magnesia - and that did work for one BM the next day - but unless I take it every day - the problem just returns....and I don't want to take that every day. I've also been taking stool softeners - not helping.
But I can't seem to go a full day without having to take Zofran for Chronic Nausea. Please help me! My Gastrointerologist won't call back and i'm desperate for answers!
Ask the doctor for a prescription of Zofran while they figure this out for you... its 100x better then gravol. have they checked your pancreas levels as well? Have they done a ERCP on you to check that there is no blockage in the ducts? This can sometimes occur after gallbladder remval, I would request this as well.
Well I also have IBS that I've been battelinf for years and its gotten worse the last 2-3 months. Well today I was at the store with my daughter & got extremely nauseated, I got some water and still needed a zofran.. Well then I had to have a bowl movement. I went to the bathroom and it was green .. I know tmi and I apologize... But what could that be from?
Currently on Zofran for nausea but its really not helping. What is wrong. I eat I am nauseated I don't eat I am nauseated?????
I refused to accept it because it didn't seem right (I have read a lot about IBS). I went for a 3rd opinion and after endoscopy my 3rd doctor (who I believe is genius) , found the reason (of course, he tested the tissue first)- it is helicobacter gastritis. terrible virus, but is curable with 2 different antibiotics for 14 days. If goes untreated, it becomes cancerous.
Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea. IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause. A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc. Chronic hepatitis or chronic infection of the gall bladder are the other possibilities. Also if nothing is found then food challenge test to detect food intolerance should be done. Keep a food diary and see if there is a co-relation between what you eat and symptoms that appear.
they haven't been able to find anything other than say I've got constipation or that I have IBS. I also went to a digestive centre to see a gastroenterologist who took samples of my stools to test for parasites & bacteria. these tests also came back negative. i'm hoping someone may have some further knowledge or experiences which may assist.
Hi, the ‘nothing’ wrong goes more in favor of IBS. IBS can cause a combination of symptoms, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, bloating and discomfort. The most common or primary symptom is usually abdominal pain. IBS is diagnosed when a person has abdominal pain or discomfort at least three times per month for the last 3 months without other disease or injury that could explain the pain. As you tests have been normal, its likely that the pain could be due to IBS.
