Common Questions and Answers about Zocor reactions

zocor

Avatar m tn I am wondering if anyone has taken simvastatin, the generic brand for Zocor. I just started taking this on Friday and twice since then I seem to have had some strange side effects. It has caused an upset stomach and then made me feel very jittery. It was almost as if I had the chills and then both nights had a horrible time sleeping. The only similar item I ate or drank was Diet Cranberry Soda. I am not sure if this would have had an impact. Any insight would be great.
Avatar n tn Well, my Dr. put me on Zocor for high cholesterol 2 mos. ago...I noticed about 3 1/2 weeks ago that there was more hair in my brush...and, it felt thinner. Well, it's getting BAD! I called my Dr. this morning & they're taking me off Zocor which DOES cause hair loss, at least it is one of the side effects. NO guarantee that it will come back either!!! I tell Ya!!! Well, if it get's worse, I have my wigs!!! GOOD LUCK TO YOU & ANYONE else having this problem.
Avatar f tn Has anyone read how horrific the side effects really are to some of these statins and realized that either they or their loved ones had these very symtoms and becames seriously ill to the point that they ended up in ICU not knowing who they were, where they were, in so much pain they could not bear to be touched and had regressed to near infancy before anyone figured out that it was zocor or lipitor or another statin they were on that was causing these bizarre illnessess ?
Avatar n tn When I went to my diabetes appointment last week or a couple of weeks ago I was told that my bad cholestrol was perfect and my good cholestrol was low so the doctor suggested for me to take Fish Oil Omega 3 I used to take 80mg.
Avatar f tn Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor: -"Zocor Users Not Warned of Risks: The FDA's June 2011 safety alert is the most serious of many warnings regarding Zocor and associated risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Zocor manufacturer Merck & Co.
214864 tn?1229715239 I am currently taking 20 mg of Coreg CR (controlled released), an ACEi, Plavix, Zocor (intermittently due to adverse reactions, same as with all statins) and Norvasc. I react differently to many medicines than other people and as I get older the more unpredictable I am, when it comes to side affects of new drugs like antibiotics and heart medications, like ARBs, which I cannot take. I am desperate to wean myself off of Coreg and start another CCB for the tachycardia.
Avatar n tn For two years I took Zocor for the purpose of lowering my Cholesterol. When I complained to my doctor about my body aching all over she suggested I discontinue using the Zocor for several weeks. As time passed I realized a lessening of body aches so I decided not to go back on the Zocor. It has now been 5 months since I have taken Zocor. Meanwhile, I have been losing weight (about 5 pounds) without changing my diet. I realized that my pants were baggy in the thighs and seat.
Avatar n tn In an effort to increase my HDL, I take Niaspan & Zocor.....Recently my MD upped the Zocor from 5mgl. to 10mgl.... Last couple weeks, have had more trouble sleeping, usually waking up after a dream (not nightmares, but somewhat vivid dreams)...I've checked out few sites, & saw that statins can cause sleep problems....Have others here had sleep problems while taking a statin?........
Avatar n tn Has anyone had problems with statins (in particular Zocor) causing an exacerbation of ocular and nasal allergy symptoms? I started Zocor 6 weeks ago, and after the first week, my eye allergy symptoms (conjunctivitis, scleritis, eyes watering, etc) got much worse. By the end of last week, my eyes were tearing to the point that tears were running down my face most of the day, and my vision was blurring. I had also developed constant sniffles. None of my allergy meds gave any relief.
Avatar n tn I currently take 150mg of Zocor per day. Recently i have developed a cough, which I can deal with but when I cough I get pain shooting though my head. It takes a few minutes to go away and then things are find. Should I be worried.
Avatar f tn Is it possible to reduce without taking something like zocor, just quitting smoking? Rather quit smoking than stay on zocor. How concerned should I be?
Avatar f tn In mid December 2007, I was rushed in again due to a different artery being clogged. Both times the cardiologist blamed it on Zocor 80mg. I was put back on Lipitor 80mg after the October event. They additionally informed me that the arteries were all under 45% clogged after the October intervention, There were hematoma and femoral nerve palsy after the October episode as well, so they went through the wrist in December. Can an artery clog wthin two months?
Avatar f tn My primary care physician told me there is damage and narrowing of the arteries; prescribed Zocor, diet, exercise and blood tests. I am 62-years old, a nonsmoker or drinker. I do take Lamictal/Klonopin for bipolar 2. My mother died of a stroke at age 69 (smoker). My maternal grandmother also had a stroke. I am very concerned.

620048 tn?1358018235 I started taking Simvastatin (zocor) maybe a week ago and with all my other symptoms its sometimes difficult, if not impossible, to feel any side efects from drugs. They are the same ones we/I already suffer from. But....For a week now I have just been worse, all my symptoms from MS are magnified it seems. I have been down (on the sofa) more than up lately. Has anyone else had any experience with this drug, I am thinking about stopping it.
Avatar n tn We had the same go around with the statins, and the symptoms you describe, in my opinion, are very common - I believe way more than 1% of people taking them have bad reactions judging from family and friends who all tried them and all got off them. Dementia, global amnesia, severe muscle weakness and possible breast cancer are some of the side effects reported, and there are many dr's who believe it is a last resort.
Avatar f tn ok my mom is 63,blind from methol alchohl poisoning and has bazil ganglia rigidity(parkinsons-like) and she is on baclofen, lisinipril, amlodipine, sinemet, and metoprolol succ and she was on zocor. she went into the hospital on dec.29th with stiffness and unable to move. she had a hedache and her head was spinning. the hospital said it was a med reaction and that her UTI was causing her medicines not to work. they treated the UTI and after five days sent her home.
Avatar f tn //cholesterol.emedtv.com/zocor/zocor-and-liver-problems.html _________________________________________________________ It may be the combination of meds...(Zocor&Suboxone)...I couldn't find any info on effexor xr and elevated liver enzymes. Hope you get it figured out.
Avatar f tn I have also gained 30 pounds since my quintuple CABG back in September 2007. I am also on Zocor, Aspirin and Niaspam. Can Coreg cause any of these symptoms? Also, my HDL has not improved since my surgery. I'm stuck in the high 20's. I feel a lack of motivation and rarely exercise. I'm worried about the HDL. Both of my brothers have low HDL and my father died of a heat attack at age 66.
Avatar n tn Its good that he took you off of the Zocor, as statins have also been linked to liver damage (which, I am sure, is why he took you off of it). I would guess that you are going to find that your enzymes start trending downward after being off the Augmentin and Zocor. I would suspect that the combination of drugs (which are known to be potentially harmful to the liver) could have caused the elevation of your AST...but that is just my guess.
Avatar m tn Vytorin is a combination, I believe, of Zocor and Zetia. Zocor should help with the cholesterol already there. If not, Lipitor has studies showing that Lipitor at 40mg can help reduce cholesterol on heart valves and in arteries. If it reduces cholesterol there, it may reduce cholesterol on the heart muscle. Cholesterol builds in the arteries, valves and muscle of the heart. In order for cholesterol to stick, there has to be a sticking spot.
Avatar f tn I was in the hospital with jaundice the Dr took me off zocor I'm also on klonopin I'm getting better but stll itch could the klonopin be causing it. I've never was told to stop taking klonopin.
Avatar f tn You bring up something I knew nothing about. I am on Zocor for borderline high cholesterol. My overal cholesterol level is only 106 now, down from 199. My PCP said yesterday that ones cholesterol can't be "too low." I totally disagree with her and told her so. My adoptive father had cholesterol levels in the high 300's, in spite of living on a diet of what he called "leaves and twigs.
