Zocor or simvastatin

Common Questions and Answers about Zocor or simvastatin

zocor

Avatar f tn Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor: -"Zocor Users Not Warned of Risks: The FDA's June 2011 safety alert is the most serious of many warnings regarding Zocor and associated risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Zocor manufacturer Merck & Co.
Avatar m tn Zocor simvastatin has been found to act against hbv in a different way that antiviruses, has anybody tried it?especially inactive carriers that don't need normal antivirals because they have no virus replication.
428155 tn?1203688894 My doctor wants me to start Simvastatin - Zocor - to lower my cholesterol. I have very high blood pressure. After reading all the side-effects of statins, I am afraid to start using this drug. All the forums I have read about this are filled with people warning others away from statins because of the terrible side effects. I cannot find any forums where people actually say they were helped by statin drugs and did not have bad side-effects. Can anybody help?
Avatar n tn I currently take 150mg of Zocor per day. Recently i have developed a cough, which I can deal with but when I cough I get pain shooting though my head. It takes a few minutes to go away and then things are find. Should I be worried.
Avatar f tn Has anyone read how horrific the side effects really are to some of these statins and realized that either they or their loved ones had these very symtoms and becames seriously ill to the point that they ended up in ICU not knowing who they were, where they were, in so much pain they could not bear to be touched and had regressed to near infancy before anyone figured out that it was zocor or lipitor or another statin they were on that was causing these bizarre illnessess ?
Avatar m tn I am wondering if anyone has taken simvastatin, the generic brand for Zocor. I just started taking this on Friday and twice since then I seem to have had some strange side effects. It has caused an upset stomach and then made me feel very jittery. It was almost as if I had the chills and then both nights had a horrible time sleeping. The only similar item I ate or drank was Diet Cranberry Soda. I am not sure if this would have had an impact. Any insight would be great.
Avatar n tn There are all kinds of statins out there, as ed said, you have to find out which one you tolerate. I have been on them for many years as I was unable to lower my LDL with diet and exercise alone. They have worked well and I have had no side effects, but everyone is different. Most of these can be replaced by the generic Simvastatin. It's cheap and is the basis of many of the meds out there.
Avatar n tn Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe). The new labels will warn patients about: Memory loss and mental confusion. Some people taking statin drugs have experienced these brain-related effects. These effects usually have not been serious and went away when patients stopped using the drugs. Risk of high blood sugar. Risk of being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
Avatar f tn Is it possible to reduce without taking something like zocor, just quitting smoking? Rather quit smoking than stay on zocor. How concerned should I be?
Avatar n tn I have been on Lipitor and simvastatin (Zocor) I have no major health problems, eat a good diet, only a few pounds too many, not enough exercise. What can I do to lower my LDL number?
1846163 tn?1331048748 alfuzosin (Uroxatral), cisapride (Propulsid), pimozide (Orap), atorvastatin (Lipitor, Caduet), lovastatin (Mevacor, Altoprev, Advicor) or simvastatin (Zocor, Simcor, Vytorin), midazolam (Versed), triazolam (Halcion), sildenafil (Revatio) or tadalafil (Adcirca) when used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, St. John's wort, rifampin (Rifadin, Rifater, Rifamate), ergonovine, ergotamine (Ergomar, Cafergot, Migergot), dihydroergotamine (D.H.E.
Avatar m tn Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
Avatar f tn I hear this quite often. Next tie you speak to your doctor ask about Zocor. There is a generic called simvastatin and it is very cheap yet very effective. Also, the additional med that your doctor was talking about is most likely a fenofibrate like Tricor which is commonly added to a statin med. I am on both and they have worked very well for me with no side effects.
Avatar n tn I've been off my statins (Zocor and Tricor) for a couple of months now and it seems my palps are way less frequent. I'm not sure if it's coincidence or if I'm just in one of those quiet palp times that we all experience. The problem is that I'm sure my cholesterol has gone up since I've been off my meds. I'm going to get it rechecked soon and then weigh my options.
Avatar n tn Generally, if you experience muscle weakness as a side effect of Lipitor (atorvastatin), other statins will produce similar effects, so that eliminates the use of Zocor (simvastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin) etc. After statin therapy fails or is not tolerated, it is normal to try ezetimibe (Zetia), which you said did not work. The use of colesevelam (WelChol) is not high, and is often the 'last ditch effort' to lower cholesterol.
Avatar f tn Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
Avatar f tn t know what it might be? Could it be a side effect to his simvastatin? Has taken this for about a year? Or some disorder? Please advise?
Avatar f tn told me that my total cholesterol was 303!!! So they instantly prescribed me 20mg of Simvastatin. With in a matter of 7-10 days I was nearly unable to run my legs became so heavy. Lead Legs! I lost all desire to run, slept all the time and was worthless at work - because I was constantly tired. I even had co-workers say to me "what happened to you at Houston - ever since you got back your not the same." I felt miserable.
Avatar f tn I do believe the half life for Simvastatin is quite short, 5 hours or less. If you take 80mg, then 5hours later only 40mg will remain. Another 5 hours only 20mg. So after 24 hours there will only be around 2-3mg in your body which is top up time.
348629 tn?1212325673 why arnt you suppose to drink or eat grapefruit on meds like xanx and methadome and all that i also was looking up things about the fruit and it said if your a woman that eats them yous 30 percent more likly to get breast cancer what the hecks up with this fruit from hell

612876 tn?1355514495 Marie, Thanks for pointing that reference out, I need to go read that! I, too, have hereditary high triglycerides! Are you taking medication for it? I'm on simvastatin (zocor). I think my levels are in the normal range now that I'm on medication. I can't remember, have you had a QSART? Mine was a little abnormal, so I want to see if I can get a skin biopsy next time I'm at Cleveland Clinic to assess small fiber neuropathy.
Avatar m tn I am also on simvastatin, which seems to cause fatigue in some people, although I am not getting the usual muscle aches and pains that people report with statins: just this constant feeling of drowsiness.
Avatar n tn Well, my Dr. put me on Zocor for high cholesterol 2 mos. ago...I noticed about 3 1/2 weeks ago that there was more hair in my brush...and, it felt thinner. Well, it's getting BAD!
