For two years I took Zocor for the purpose of lowering my Cholesterol. When I complained to my doctor about my body aching all over she suggested I discontinue using the Zocor for several weeks. As time passed I realized a lessening of body aches so I decided not to go back on the Zocor. It has now been 5 months since I have taken Zocor. Meanwhile, I have been losing weight (about 5 pounds) without changing my diet. I realized that my pants were baggy in the thighs and seat.
Vytorin is a combination, I believe, of Zocor and Zetia. Zocor should help with the cholesterol already there. If not, Lipitor has studies showing that Lipitor at 40mg can help reduce cholesterol on heart valves and in arteries. If it reduces cholesterol there, it may reduce cholesterol on the heart muscle. Cholesterol builds in the arteries, valves and muscle of the heart. In order for cholesterol to stick, there has to be a sticking spot.
I think it's more of which one your body will tolerate the best. Different brands seem to show different side effects in many people. Lipitor in some women have produced breast pains or enlargement and even the manufacturers cannot explain that one. Still, I suppose it's cheaper than plastic surgery. Some statins cause abdominal pains in some people, or nausea or serious muscle cramps and even damage.
You bring up something I knew nothing about. I am on Zocor for borderline high cholesterol. My overal cholesterol level is only 106 now, down from 199. My PCP said yesterday that ones cholesterol can't be "too low." I totally disagree with her and told her so.
My adoptive father had cholesterol levels in the high 300's, in spite of living on a diet of what he called "leaves and twigs.
Well, my Dr. put me on Zocor for high cholesterol 2 mos. ago...I noticed about 3 1/2 weeks ago that there was more hair in my brush...and, it felt thinner. Well, it's getting BAD! I called my Dr. this morning & they're taking me off Zocor which DOES cause hair loss, at least it is one of the side effects. NO guarantee that it will come back either!!! I tell Ya!!! Well, if it get's worse, I have my wigs!!! GOOD LUCK TO YOU & ANYONE else having this problem.
Has anyone read how horrific the side effects really are to some of these statins and realized that either they or their loved ones had these very symtoms and becames seriously ill to the point that they ended up in ICU not knowing who they were, where they were, in so much pain they could not bear to be touched and had regressed to near infancy before anyone figured out that it was zocor or lipitor or another statin they were on that was causing these bizarre illnessess ?
t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
they gave her a cat scan blood and urine tests and came to the conclusion that she was allergic to the zocor. the doctor took her off it and put her on a muscle relaxer called robaxin. she went home. the next day we went out for my birthday and she was the same way. we went back to the hospital and she was admitted to the psych floor. my question is what could cause her to develoup hallucinations all of a sudden?
I'm a 64 yr old female who just got a heart stent in my AUD 5 weeks ago. I'm was giving Plavix and Crestro, . Im. so weak and tired all the time no energy at all. I ask the doctor to change the satin crestro which I just found out it suppose to be the best satin. I thought it was that which was causing my tiredness. so I beg Dr. to ..change it to Zocor but I'm still feeling the same... the only thing different is fewer muscle aches.
When I went to my diabetes appointment last week or a couple of weeks ago I was told that my bad cholestrol was perfect and my good cholestrol was low so the doctor suggested for me to take Fish Oil Omega 3 I used to take 80mg.
I have been taking Simva Statin for the past 3 years to lower my cholestreol which it has done. However I have also suffered from bad muscle spasms in my legs in the evening and at night. I decided to stop the statins and the spasms have gone immediately thank goodness ! I will never take this statin again but I know I have to still control my cholesterol. Does anyone know of a statin that will not give me leg spasms ?
Last thing you want to take is a statin drug like Crestor or Lipitor which have known to cause serious, serious muscle problems and have even been linked to ALS aka Lou Gherig's Disease which will kill you in about 2-3 years due to paralysis!
Beware! Not everything that the doctors say are safe truly are. Just listen to the disclaimer in Lipitor commercials. It is unbelievable that the general population are unaware of the dangers of cholesterol lowering drugs!
Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor:

I currently have stents and a ICD implant. I currently take plavix, coreg, zocor and a blood pressure med. The stents and ICD were done about 5-6 yrs ago. At the time my EJ was about 20 and now it is in the low 40's so I am pleased with this but my question is what can I do to get my EJ higher. It has been flat for the last 2 yrs. I do exercise daily and watch my diet.
My husband has High Cholesterol. They put him on Zocor four years ago. Before the Zocor there was NOTHING wrong with him but the cholesterol. He has now tested positive for kidney failure three years in a row and it has been getting worse, this past year his liver started showing distress. He went off Zocor and magically all his numbers got much better (from stage 3 to stage 2). So they put him on Lipitor.
I'm am a very fit 20 year old male. I work out a lot I do I lot of running and I eat fairly healthy. However I play football/ soccer (I'm from England) and a game of football is 90 minutes long and I can never last the full 90 minutes because I get server muscle cramps around 70 minutes. I've had blood test and all is healthy. I get very frustrated because people I play with, drink, smoke and do drugs and don't get anything like I do. I have had it since I was 15.

Are you experiencing a lot of pain from the BFS? I have been on Neurontin before for nerve damage in my spine and have heard it can cause muscle cramps in some people. I have also heard, and I don't usually sway people in this direction on MedHelp, but Opiates, such as Oxycontin, are very helpful for your condition. I am assuming you are speaking of Benign fasciculation syndrome? Correct?

Muscle cramps are a common complication of cirrhosis. About half of all persons with cirrhosis experience muscle cramps. Muscle cramps are related to the duration of cirrhosis and the severity of liver damage.The exact reason for leg cramps is unknown. More study must be done in this area before we have a real solution for at least most sufferers. It's cause is probably multiple factors. So there is no one effective treatment for cramps.
