Avatar n tn t take Zocor last night, and this morning I noticed about a 75% improvement in my symptoms. Is anyone else familiar with this?
Avatar f tn After the recommendations, who prescribes them? I think in the uk the drug companies influence the professors, who in turn try to influence Doctors. It was announced not long ago that it would be a huge benefit if kids took statins. I can't help but wonder what's next, maybe give your pets a statin a day? Personally I agree with some Doctors who say Statins haven't really been proven.

Avatar n tn When I went to my diabetes appointment last week or a couple of weeks ago I was told that my bad cholestrol was perfect and my good cholestrol was low so the doctor suggested for me to take Fish Oil Omega 3 I used to take 80mg.
428155 tn?1203688894 As I was taking simvastatin, I was in fibrillation 17% of the time; 1 month after I stopped simvastatin, the level was down to 0%. I am now experimenting with alternative cholesterol control methods: Omega 3 gels, ground linseed, charcoal. I may also try red yeast rice extract, which got my cardiologist excited, since it is supposed to be quite effective too. Red yeast rice was, in fact, used to synthetise the first statin. Avatar n tn For two years I took Zocor for the purpose of lowering my Cholesterol. When I complained to my doctor about my body aching all over she suggested I discontinue using the Zocor for several weeks. As time passed I realized a lessening of body aches so I decided not to go back on the Zocor. It has now been 5 months since I have taken Zocor. Meanwhile, I have been losing weight (about 5 pounds) without changing my diet. I realized that my pants were baggy in the thighs and seat.
Avatar f tn My doctor has me on 30mg of Coreg (time release) that I take once in the morning. My fatigue has increased and my libido has dropped to zero. I have also gained 30 pounds since my quintuple CABG back in September 2007. I am also on Zocor, Aspirin and Niaspam. Can Coreg cause any of these symptoms? Also, my HDL has not improved since my surgery. I'm stuck in the high 20's. I feel a lack of motivation and rarely exercise. I'm worried about the HDL.
Avatar n tn In an effort to increase my HDL, I take Niaspan & Zocor.....Recently my MD upped the Zocor from 5mgl. to 10mgl.... Last couple weeks, have had more trouble sleeping, usually waking up after a dream (not nightmares, but somewhat vivid dreams)...I've checked out few sites, & saw that statins can cause sleep problems....Have others here had sleep problems while taking a statin?........
Avatar n tn I currently take 150mg of Zocor per day. Recently i have developed a cough, which I can deal with but when I cough I get pain shooting though my head. It takes a few minutes to go away and then things are find. Should I be worried.
Avatar f tn A moderate amount of irregular heterogeneous plaque is seen in the carotid bulb and proximal internal carotid artery. This produces a 50-79% stenosis of the carotid bulb and proximal to mid internal carotid artery. The ICA/CCA ratio of 3.07 (right) and 1.21 (left) indicates a less than 60% internal carotid artery stenosis. No evidence of stenosis was seen in the external carotid artery. The vertebral artery is patent with a normal direction and velocity of flow (antegrade).
Avatar m tn Thank you for your response. I am using Broomday once in the morning and Prednisolone 4 drops per day for the eye. I also take 1000 mg of slo niacin, 20 mg of zocor, 2400 mg fish oil, 2000 units of vitamin D, 2 baby aspirins and a multi vitamin. FYI my blood pressure has risen since the surgery. It was always in the normal range and now it has been 160/100, 140/100 and yesterday 1/9/12 it was 158/68. Have not had a fever and have a good appetite.
Avatar f tn In mid December 2007, I was rushed in again due to a different artery being clogged. Both times the cardiologist blamed it on Zocor 80mg. I was put back on Lipitor 80mg after the October event. They additionally informed me that the arteries were all under 45% clogged after the October intervention, There were hematoma and femoral nerve palsy after the October episode as well, so they went through the wrist in December. Can an artery clog wthin two months?
Avatar n tn But, if you have been taking Zocor for your triglycerides, you should have your liver enzymes checked esp. if your right side continues to hurt. If they are elevated from taking the Zocor, your doctor needs to discontinue this medication. I took Zocor for about a year, and it damaged my liver. Read about the side effects from all stain drugs. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Please follow the advice of your PCP and get all the blood tests done, take zocor regularly to keep your cholesterol levels under control. Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn we have 2 1yr old boxer pit mixed puppies who got ahold of meds in the trash today. bentyl and Zocor.
Avatar m tn Have your doctor write you a prescription for it, you will probably feel better on it. Another good thing to take for the thyroid is Iodoral Iodine, however, it is a good idea to have the doc order the Iodine Loading Test for you and then test you for iodine levels. You can also add kelp, this is natural iodine and good for the thyroid, whether it be high or low. L-Tyrosine, an amino acid is good for thyroid support too. Why are you are Zocor, this is for high cholesterol.
Avatar n tn My blood pressure has been low, in the range of 90/60 since the surgery but the cardiologist wants me to continue the Benicar. He said it's "good for the heart". Has anyone ever heard of this before? My understanding was that Benicar is for high BP. Also, I have been feeling very down and blue a lot of the time. What could be causing this other than the fact that I just (3 weeks ago) had open heart surgery.
Avatar f tn they gave her a cat scan blood and urine tests and came to the conclusion that she was allergic to the zocor. the doctor took her off it and put her on a muscle relaxer called robaxin. she went home. the next day we went out for my birthday and she was the same way. we went back to the hospital and she was admitted to the psych floor. my question is what could cause her to develoup hallucinations all of a sudden?
Avatar f tn This is something you definitely want to investigate further with your doc. If I had to make an educated guess...if a med is the culprit, I would bank on the Zocor being the cause, as that's fairly common. People taking Zocor should be getting bloodwork done at least annually to check for any issues. Your doc will help you sort this out...wish you the best!
Avatar m tn Vytorin is a combination, I believe, of Zocor and Zetia. Zocor should help with the cholesterol already there. If not, Lipitor has studies showing that Lipitor at 40mg can help reduce cholesterol on heart valves and in arteries. If it reduces cholesterol there, it may reduce cholesterol on the heart muscle. Cholesterol builds in the arteries, valves and muscle of the heart. In order for cholesterol to stick, there has to be a sticking spot.
Avatar f tn I was in the hospital with jaundice the Dr took me off zocor I'm also on klonopin I'm getting better but stll itch could the klonopin be causing it. I've never was told to stop taking klonopin.
Avatar f tn In general I am very suspicious about the statin drugs and the growing medical opinion that every body will be healthier on them. The muscle pain and weakness is a DIRECT EFFECT of the statins action physiologically. They interrupt the body's natural synthesis of cholesterol in the liver. Yes, the predominant (like 90%) form of cholesterol in our blood is what we make ourselves, NOT from what we eat. The drug companies have been very disengenuous about this.
Avatar n tn I would guess that you are going to find that your enzymes start trending downward after being off the Augmentin and Zocor. I would suspect that the combination of drugs (which are known to be potentially harmful to the liver) could have caused the elevation of your AST...but that is just my guess. If you are concerned about hepatitis, why not ask for your doctor to run labs for HCV and HBV...if for no other reason than to put your mind at ease?
