I was still worried so I waited a week later and went to a 2nd doctor. He performed a test and placed me on zithromax 2g. BTW, those test came back negative as well. I avoided sex with my girlfriend until after treatment (1wk). The tests were performed with swabs into the penis. Are these tests the best for accuracy? A week after treatment, I had sex with my mate and after a few days she started to complain of abdominal pain and heavy cramping.
1) Would 5 days of doxycycline and on day 6 the 1.5 g zithromax cure chlamydia if present?
2) I used zithromax back in july for an ear infections. Would this build up resistance against chlamydia due to overuse of zithromax?
Though you tested negative for the bacterial infections, you were given Zithromax in case (as a back up plan) you might have caught anything. Its seems like you didn't catch anything since you waited a week and hopefully you didn't have symptoms. Your original doctor is a good doctor and the doze of zithromax you took was a pre-caution, and it took care of any bacteria that the tests may have been missed.

ever since I took zithromax a month ago, I haven't felt well. Upset stomach, loose stool,etc.. I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and I am prone to chest pains, etc. Have had many tests and they say there is nothing wrong with my heart. However, ever since I took the meds, I have been having back, shoulder, arm, stomach and chest discomfort. The pain travels and is short lived, and sometimes it gets worse when sitting.
In oktober my wife needed to that Zithromax 1.5g over 2 days for an infection of her ear. I then also took Zithromax 1.5g and doxycycline 100mg 2 x a day for 5 days against possible chlamydia/ngu. I have a few questions:
1) Can I get gonorrhea or ngu from this brief oral?
2) Would the Zithromax 1 day after the exposure block or prevent gonorrhea or ngu?
3) What about the 4 pills of augmentin?
4) I’m afraid that the Zithromax just made gonorrhea symptoms mild.
I talked to the original doctor and he made the comment that the Bactrim may have caused a false negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea and prescribed zithromax (1g) and a shot of rosephin as a preventative. I informed my girlfriend and her Dr. prescribed zithromax (1g) and a single dose of ciprofloxin.
Everything seemed to be ok but a few months later the prostate problems came back and I was put on a month of Levaquin.
hello Dr i just have a few questions. i went to the philippines for a vacation back in december, and mistakenly had unprotected sex with a csw. the intercourse was brief maybe 2 minutes and i am circumsised. i asked the girl if she was std free and she said yes and according to her she just had a hiv test the month before.
i have tested positive for gonorrhea & i recently took 4 pills of ZITHROMAX & 3 pills of CIPRO . I'm not sure if its away ... but 4 days after i took the pills , i had protected sex .... i have couple questions::
1) even tho im not sure if i still have it & i had protected sex, is it possible if my partner could be tested positive ?
2) Im having very little symptoms but after i had sex, i had abominal pain.what could that mean ?
i went to my doctor and told me that i may have chlamydia, so she gave me 1000mg of zithromax. I told her that i had gotten tested negative for all stds 2 weeks before. Im on my 3rd day of the treatment. I went to the urologist, and he told me that possible my testicles get a slight torsion but they unwrap each other. My questions are:
1) wouldnt the previous tests would have determined if i had any std's??
I am wondering if the Zithromax would make it pointless to get a blood test for this now or should I wait? also I hear that Syphilis infections are on the rise again, not to mention this prostitute could have been riddled.
1. Could I have syphilis that has gone undetected? I did RPR tests at 2, 8 and 10 weeks. Then VDRL at 13 weeks and RPR at 19, 23 and 26 weeks. I also had an FTA-ABS at 23 weeks and a TPPA at 26 weeks. All negative.
2. I self-prescribed 1g Zithromax at 11 weeks. Could this have had the effect of false negative test results? Could Zithromax cause the ear-ringin?
3. Are there any other STDs that could cause similar symptoms?
I will preliminarily answer your questions below but I also have several questions for you. these include:
1. Were you treated when you had symptoms in February? With what? Did you improve with treatment?
2. Was your wife treated after you had the onset of symptoms
3. Were you tested before you were treated or after you had started treatment?
4. Have you taken any other antibiotics between your October exposure and now?

They gave you Zithromax for NGU?! I took 1.5g of Zithromax about two weeks after catching my NGU/NSU and I still have urethritis... Even after 12 days of Doxycycline it still hurts. The 'D-Mannose' supplement I started a day and a half ago seems to be helping, but everytime I think it's getting better, it comes right back. It's a b'as't'ard.
Maybe if I think it will get horribler and I will die soon, THEN it will magically go away.
Two days ago, I saw my doctor again and he prescribed 1 gram of zithromax. Thankfully, my symptoms have yet to produce a fever as that would have me literally going out of my mind. Here are my questions:
1. Based on the 2 grams of keflex and the 1 gram of zithromax, can I assume if I was exposed to an STD
such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, or NGU that the aforementioned meds would successfully deal with them?

Also, because he saw I didn’t seem convinced, he just gave me 2g of Zithromax (8 tablets) which he said would take care of Gono and Chlamydia if I had it. I took it in one shot.
I came to this reputed site for a second opinion.
i) Does this event carry any risk for HIV or any STD? Would you recommend any testing? I’m thinking of doing a HIV Duo test at 28 days and a VDRL
ii) Assuming I had a RECTAL infection from this, would 2g of Zithromax clear Gono and Chlamydia?
1. Wouldn't this zithromax dose have taken care of any bacteria present since exposure? I assume that after exposure that the bacteria is present and any treatment clears this up.
2. Does zithromax increase urination and clear discharge?
3. Can I reliably put this whole episode behind me taking into account all of the above?
Any thoughts or insights? I assume further testing is no required.

In Feb. 06 I suffered a blackout. I may have had a sexual encounter with a sex worker. I had a girlfriend at this time (now fiancee). We weren't having full sex at the time. (All screens came back neg. except for NSU which is recurring). Main concern is any possible damage I may cause/have caused to my fiancee.
July 06 - Tested positive for NSU (no known bacteria found). - Prescribed 1g Zithromax in a single dose. - Was not called back to GUM & was told to continue on as normal.
We each went to the clinic on the same day and were given Zithromax and waited at least 7 days (I remember us waiting longer than that but my boyfriend says it was only 7 days). I got a depo-provera shot and my IUD insertion was rescheduled for yesterday, August 2nd. When I went in, my nurse did a wet mount test to see if my white blood cell count was normal so she could know if it was safe to put in the IUD.
based on fact it recurred twice having taken 1g Zithromax but on 3rd attempt of 1g Zithromax it went away for 4years? I.e If it was MG in first instance it appeared to be resistant to first two doses of 1g Zithromax so it would't have gone away on the third dose.
4) Could it be herpes? I have no symptoms. Should I get a type specific HSV test? Would it give a definitive answer for herpes?
5) My regular partner was checked before for Chlym & Gono. Nothing found.
Dr HH, I had sex with a woman three weeks ago, one day after intercourse I started having urgent to pee that later developed in clear discharge I took 1g of zithromax. One week after this, I was tested for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia and was given antibiotics 1g Zithromax and 400mg of some antibiotics for gonorrhea were also administered. Test came back negative, but symptoms are still present.
Did your doctor know that you were pregnant when prescribing this medication? Zithromax is FDA pregnancy category B. Zithromax is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby (but it doesn't mean it's 100% safe). If you were that sick and your doctor knew you were pregnant he/she must have felt it was worth the slight risk.
