Zithromax for chlamydia and gonorrhea

Common Questions and Answers about Zithromax for chlamydia and gonorrhea

zithromax

If your symptoms haven't dramatically improved, you should see a doctor for follow up. If it was chlamydia or ngu, the zithromax would have cured that, and your symptoms should be clear by now. Until your symptoms clear up, you shouldn't have sex.
It will cure both gonorrhea and chlamydia.
I've been reading that 2 gm would be necessary for Gonorrhea and 1 gm would take care of Chlamydia. I called him today to make sure he prescribed the proper dose and he reassurred me that 1 gram is all that is needed. Is he over seeing this?
I had the most common symptoms for gonorrhea and clamydia. I went and got tested and I won't have the results for a couple days. They gave me a shot of rocephin and zithromax in a powder form with water added. I am wondering if this is enough to cure me of them if I do indeed have them, and when is the soonest I can get tested again to make sure they are gone. I was told one week, but I just want to be sure. Thanks.
After the encounter, I became paranoid that I contracted an STD like gonorrhea or chlamydia or both, and I went to a doctor, who treated me with 2 grams of Zithromax taken in 8 pills all at once. I did not get tested at this time which I now know was a mistake. 12 days after taking the Zithromax I went to a clinic to be tested because I wanted to be sure I was cured. The clinic did a urethral swap for both Gon. and Chlam. and the results were negative. My questions: 1.
So my question is, if my only choices for Chlamydia were doxycycline vs. Zithromax and I preferred Zithromax over a longer period of time (since for me 1g didn't work); what would be the proper dosage for what period of time? Would it be 500 mg for 10 days (I have seen something like this before)?
If we had treated and stopped sex for 7 days and her oral gonorrhea was not treated and then she gave oral sex, would she re-infect me again ? And what is the best treatment for gonorrhea ?
The exposure you describe was low risk for gonorrhea and zero risk for chlamydia. (Chlamydia transmission to the penis by oral sex has never been documented to occur; and chlamydia of the mouth or throat is rare.) Further, you can be completely confident any gonorrhea you acquired would have been effectively treated by the drugs you were given. 1) Since you almost certainly didn't have anything to transmit to your regular partner, the question is irrelevant.
So who knows, I'm hoping its chlamydia again. Would taking the zithromax and a preferred gonorrhea med at the same time (or a day apart) be ok to do?
The timing and description of your discharge are quite consistent with gonorrhea and the therapy the you received is the recommended therapy for gonorrhea. The same treat ment would also cure chlamydia or NGU if these were causing your discharge. I predict that you will find your discharge gone or at least much improved by tomorrow morning and suspect that your test will be positive for gonorrhea as well. I suspect that your partner does not know that she has gonorrhea.
Even double that amount is perfectly safe, and is sometimes used, for example to treat gonorrhea or syphilis. Chlamydia typically is cured with that treatment; it takes 5-7 days for the infection to be cleared up.
also you never know if you are really getting what you think you are getting. Not sure where you are from but both chlamydia and gonorrhea can be tested for either free or very low cost thru the state std clinics. You can look them up online if you are in the US. You can't treat gonorrhea with anything but IM antibiotics at this point so you don't want to mess around and self treat with the wrong med if by chance you really do have it.
or there is still a certain probability % for her to get infected and likewise for me to be infected by her? I dont really suspect SW A as i did not get gono after my first encounter with her. Q2) After two weeks of medicine on doxy(not sure with the spelling). They perform a swab test(inserting something into my urine tract to collect samples) on me. Really felt pain. The doctor said that my test had cleared of gono.
It effectively treats or prevents syphilis and chlamydia, and probably gonorrhea -- 1 gram is on the low side for reliable activity against gonorrhea, but is still at least 90% effective. My only other advice is that you keep those condoms happy for the next time! I hope those comments are helpful.
No test for anything is 100% accurate, and the standard testing is the best we have. Most of the tests we have are in the upper 90% range for accuracy, and that's great. If you are concerned, test again. 2 tests are less likely to be wrong than 1 is.
I was diagnosed with gonorrhea recently, no chlamydia. Since I am allergic to penicillin, they did not give me an injection of any kind instead they gave me 4 pills (or 2 g) of Zithromax. I read that this cannot cure gonorrhea...is that true? Has anyone gone through the same as me and was cured from it?
Don`t wait. call now. Zithromax is effective for chlamydia but neither is first choice for gonorrhea.
I've read up on the web that Zithromax is the treatment for Chlamydia + Gonorrhea. Just like to verify it here with you guys. Also, i am still un-tested for the above disease. Just that the window period of it have not come up, is it safe for me to take the drug above even if the test is going to be negative? If I wait until the test is out, will it be too late for me to take the medication?
Not sure that will help you, as that is not the recommend medication for gonorrhea or chlamydia. I would guess you have gonorrhea or NGU. 2. No pink eye is pink eye, this is not a STD. 3. No 4. No 5. I would call your Dr and find out what he/she diagnosed you with and tell him/her medication is not working.
I am in my third day of a zithromax course, the antibiotic commonly given to cure chlamydia, for a sinus infection. My boyfriend was tested for possible chlamydia/gonorrhea and came back positive for chlamydia (today, after I had taken 3 days worth of z-pack). I am considering being tested just to 'be safe' but know that not only will the z-pack affect the test, but will most likely have cured any chlamydia I may have had (we have not had unprotected sex).
Ok, I got my results today and Chlamydia and Gonorhea were negative. I was diagnosed with Ureaplasma ureli... What does this mean? Since I only had oral sex with others, could I have only got this from my wife?. And from what I am reading it is not harmful to women, as this bacteria is prevelent but why is she having lower abdominal pains and why didn^t her docter give her antibiotics?
Or is it possible when he went for antibiotics they treated him forboth chlamydia and gonorrhea to be safe, and the other prescription bottle was somewhere else? If he did have gonorrhea and gave that to me (before he took the antibiotics) would the 1 gram azithromycin/doxy I took treat it? Some sites say 2 grams of azithromycin treats it, but what about 1 gram?? Thanks. I'll be going to get retested in about a month to see if the chlamydia is gone (or gonorrhea?
3) Will a 250mg IV shot of Ceftriaxone and 1000mg of zithromax cure gonorrhea and chlamydia 100% of the time? Is there usually a need for a reteset after treatment? (my doc said no need for retest even though I said I still felt symtpoms...but they're gone now) 4) Will the antibiotics I took also kill syphilis bacteria as Dr. HHH has stated on numerous occassions (if I did have syphilis) 5) If a girl gets anal gonorrhea, will a urine test show positive for gonorrhea? Thank you!
Bruno, you're not bothering anyone unless they tell you that you are. Zithromax does not have any effect on prostatitis. It is actually one of the few drugs that has very good prostate penetration, but it does absolutely nothing once it penetrates the prostate. The drugs used for prostatitis are usually Levaquin and Ciprofloxacin. Like I said, it's not an easy thing to cure. See a urologist.
Azithromycin (Zithromax could cure both gonorrhea as well as chlamydia but the recommended doe for gonorrhea is higher than for chlamydia. 2.0 grams as a single dose rather than just 1 gram.
I went to a doc (I am new in town and had not been to this doctor before) and he did a test and then prescribed Zithromax for both myself and my girlfriend. He gave us each 8 250mg pills and told us to take all 8 pills in one dose. Here are my questions: 1. Is that dose of antibiotic enough to kill both chlamydia and gonorrhea if my test does in fact come back positive? I was not tested for syphilis - would this drug have killed that too, if I had been exposed? 2.
Will taking 2G of zithromax in a single oral dose cure gonorrhea AND chlamydia? Is taking 2G at risk for side effects? If so, what kinds?
