My 6 year old woke up one morning a month ago with a constant dry hacking half cough. He has been on Zithromax, pro air inhaler, qvar inhaler, and orapred. Nothing has helped. His lungs are clear so they have ruled out asthma. Now they are referring him to an allergy doctor. How can it be an allergy when he does not have any allergy symptoms? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In February 2008 I had pertussis but it wasn't diagnosed by family doctor. I just thought I had a summer cough. I went to work in Jakarta for two weeks but picked up a micoplasma infection. This resulted in pneumonia, atrial fibrillation, myocarditis and congestive heart failure.

DTP stands for Diptheria/Tetanus/Pertussis (not Polio). Once you are an adult, you would not get the DTP or DTaP since it is reccomended only for children up to age 7. If you have never had any Tetanus vaccinations, you would want to ask your doctor about starting a series of Td shots to get the basic immunity. After that, you would get one every ten years.

From what I understand, older adults may no longer have strong immunity to Pertussis. With certain vaccines, I think for adults they are adding the Pertussis back into it, if you so choose, but I'm not 100%sure. Also, not sure if this is a recommendation by the Pediatricians or your daughter.

My mom told me I should get a pertussis vaccination before I have the baby. Has anyone else done this??

For us in the Philippines, the pertussis vaccine is part of the babies vaccination at 2 months old. Just avoid sick coughing people as much as possible.

I have had a cough for over 5 weeks now. I wasn't sick and it basically popped up out of no where. I haven't ran a fever at all. I went to the doctor, and my throat isn't swollen or sore, and my lungs are clear. When I cough I stop breathing. Its as if my throat closes up completely. It takes me a a bit to catch my breath, but before I am able to, my chest goes to hurting from not being able to breathe. Once I am finally able to breathe again, I feel exhausted.

When it was done, i still needed an inhaler for a year. I am a tough cookie and it really knocked me for a loop. I do NOT recommend anyone chance finding out.

I had never heard of Zithromax being a medication that could place a person at risk for that. After some searching, I only found ONE article that lists some stats on a person with serotonin syndrome being on Zithromax at the time, it was 9 or 10 people, and it doesn't state that the Zithromax was suspected to be a culprit, but rather just reported that those patients happened to be on that at the time. What were your symptoms that took you to the ER?

He has recieved pertussis immuization. He coughs so much he vomits. There is conflict of doctor opinion regarding asthma, asthmatic bronchitis, and pertussis since this started just after his last immunization and the immunization might not have been effective. He is fighting the mask for asthma so much it seems it will do him no good. What is your advice regarding diagnosis and treatment?

I was with someone exposed to both. I am taking one dose of 1.5g of zithromax to stop or cure myself from catcing of having either one. Will this work and or do the job?

I'm 26 weeks and my OB said I needed to get a Tdap shot for pertussis and so does anyone else that is going to be around the baby. I work for 5 doctors and they all say the samething. I told my parents and all they did was laugh. Is anyone else making their family get one?

t get the Tdap until they are older abs it contains the pertussis vaccine. Pertussis is on the rise and can be fatal to an infant if they get it.

My last tetanus (Td) shot was in 2007 (9 years ago). I asked my doctor if I can have my booster shot now before I lose my health insurance in a few weeks. He told me that since I wasn't due for a booster until next year that I would have to wait (and therefore pay for it out of pocket). Is there really a danger in getting a booster a few months early, or is he just being a jerk?

They tested me for TB- negative, the lab messed up the test for cat stratch fever and tested for pertussis so need to go give blood again to rule that out as cause of GM. (Interesting thing is that 2 of the levels of pertussis came back high and I have never had pertussis in my life, so now I need to figure that out.) And also, she wants me to get a second opinion from another breast surgeon to see if she is missing anything surgically, etc. I totally trust her and have agreed.

It's for whopping cough. Good on you for getting it! I haven't had the whooping cough vaccine yet but I have had a similar reaction to other shots. It should shrink over time but if it's the same size after a week or two I would tell the doctor.

I know the schools near me are pushing for vaccinations to be required, but then we get those parents who say it's against their parental rights that they chose not to vaccinate and should not be forced to. I have no idea why these parents won't vaccinate, especially since the whole Autism scare from vaccines was proven false. I think many parents look for a scape goat for why their child is having problems and will blame vaccines.

Im 27 weeks and today my dr offered or more like pushed me to get the pertussis whooping cough vaccine. I DECLINED it did not sit well with me and there have been NO PROVEN BENEFITS from it. Im very stressed out about it i really want to make the best decision for my unborn child. This is MY FIRST BABY.... what do you ladies think? Risk and benefits? I have to decide by April 2.
