zithromax and pertussis

Last weekend he was coughing violently and was put on zithromax thinking it was a sinus infection. However, how his cough, while subsided, sounds horrible. I heard a commercial for pertussis and that's how his cough sounds! Would whooping cough make him not want to eat? He takes two bites of something and that's it. No fever, very active, some diarrhea, and this 'cough'. Also, would the zithromax take care of it if it was whooping cough?

I am not a heavy drinker of alcohol (but did drink a half snifter of cognac every night to stop keeping my wife awake with my coughing when I had pertussis). Normally my wife and I share a bottle of wine with dinner and that is all the alcohol we normally drink. I had Bornholms disease (coxsackie virus) about 25 years ago. Finally I am stone deaf in my left ear - due apparently to mumps when I was about 18 months old. ENT specialist said it is nerve deafness.

My 6 year old woke up one morning a month ago with a constant dry hacking half cough. He has been on Zithromax, pro air inhaler, qvar inhaler, and orapred. Nothing has helped. His lungs are clear so they have ruled out asthma. Now they are referring him to an allergy doctor. How can it be an allergy when he does not have any allergy symptoms? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My son and daughter in law are getting ready to have there first baby in about 6 weeks. When I went to see them last month they told me i needed to get a pertussis vaccine. Is this true? and should it be done before the baby gets here. And how long before?

My mom told me I should get a pertussis vaccination before I have the baby. Has anyone else done this??

Also called pertussis it is a serious bacterial respiratory infection. It can be deadly to infants and toddlers. You should ask your doctor If you're still eligible to fit the shot.

It is a one-time booster with the pertussis vaccine in it to boost your immunity to pertussis (or whooping cough). Kids get the Dtap vaccination up until age 7, after which you get the Td shot. Pertussis immunity in older adolescents and adults has waned and that is why the Tdap is now reccomended.

As a nurse I fully recommend getting the vaccine. Pertussis is no joke and unfortunately making quite a come back.

Agree with eden...and I'm NOT a vaccine person, per se. I never get shots, but right now in CO we have a super high number of families that opt out of vaccinations and last year's cold season sparked a huge comeback in pertussis. Im a teacher and expect to get sick throughout the year, but an infant with pertussis can be deadly or cause long term damage. A few friends of ours actually ended up in the hospital and they were otherwise healthy.

A few years ago before I went to Europe I had my vacanations updated and it automatically included the pertussis vaccine along with tetnis and a few other things. I just called my reg doctor to check because that pertussis commercial is freaking me out!!!

TDaP stands for Tetanus, Diptheria, and Pertussis. Pertussis is whooping cough. This vaccine gives you protection of all three of these diseases. By getting vaccinated while pregnant, your body forms antigens which cross the plecenta and to the baby meaning your baby will also be immune to the diseases.

Hi, i was diagnosed with chlamydia today in my local STD clinic, the doctor gave me 4 250mg Zithromax tablets to take which i did as instructed. A little later without thinking about it i drank one pint of beer. Genuine mistake. i was just wondering will the dose of Zithromax i took work now?

t get the Tdap until they are older abs it contains the pertussis vaccine. Pertussis is on the rise and can be fatal to an infant if they get it.

My clinic only carries tetanus vaccines that are combined with pertussis vaccines, and because I have MS my doctor recommends that I avoid the pertussis component. He will not have Td available until early next year.

(Interesting thing is that 2 of the levels of pertussis came back high and I have never had pertussis in my life, so now I need to figure that out.) I was with someone exposed to both. I am taking one dose of 1.5g of zithromax to stop or cure myself from catcing of having either one. Will this work and or do the job?

I work at a pediatric office and we have had some cases of babies end up contracting pertussis and being admitted to the hospital. There have been outbreaks and non vaccination doesnt help. It is better for you and baby. Baby won't get their own dtap until 2months, usually. Good luck!

htm There is a major Pertussis(Whooping Cough) outbreak in California and the numbers are still growing. This is why we need people to get vaccinated and to vaccinate their children, so cases/epidemics like this won't exist.

I got mine on Wednesday and the soreness is just about gone today. The only effect is to provide protection for me and especially for my baby against dangerous and preventable diseases. Whooping cough kills babies. Anything I can do to keep my baby alive is definitely on my to-do list.

I just got my pertussis shot yesterday morning , I woke up this morning and my arm feels like a noodle and I just have this huge red swollen bump where my shot was at. I'm not allergic or sensitive when it comes to needles. Has anyone else experienced this?

Last appointment I went to the nurse asked between 30-34 weeks they reccomend me getting a pertussis/tetnis (I'm sure those are totally mispelled) shot. I said I would think about it. I'm kind of undecided. Have any of you gotten it? Or do any of you ladies think it'll be a good idea to get?

t look like pertussis. I believe one doctor said I could have had pertussis any time in my life and had a positive test for pertussis antibodies. In that case a positive pertussis test doesn't mean anything. We have never had a "whoop" sounding cough. One pertussis antibody just showed a slight elevation on the test. I've seen several doctors and PA's at the same healthcare center.

My doctor recommended at my next appointment I should get the pertussis vaccine. Ill be 30 weeks. Good idea or should I wait until I give birth?
