Zithromax and penicillin allergy

Common Questions and Answers about Zithromax and penicillin allergy

zithromax

I have to get over this illness (and I've already tried penicillin which failed) and am so afraid I am going to DIE doing it. Also, it's close to menstrual time so that may play a role but I really think the Z-pack is causing this. Can anyone help?
I have successfully taken erythromycin, zithromax and biaxin. Anybody allergic to cillins and quinones who has had good luck with Sulfa drugs? Thanks, in advance, for the help!
Zithromax would probably have killed it, but there have been a few cases reported in which it didn't work. The CDC recommends using zithromax only in those with penicillin allergy, and there should be close follow-up to make sure it worked.
(I am allergic to penicillin) If after being tested (and likely coming back negative) this pain continues I will definitely take your advice and see my Doc about prostatitis.
A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy in that process. Speaking of outbreaks, influenza is finally reaching Palo Alto right around now.
My urithra opened up with a big ulcer and i stopped tonight the antibioticum because i got a scratching on all my body. (got afraid of a penicillin allergy My big problem is the urine part. When i go it hurts sooooo much and its my burning my penis.... Please help me on what to do ...
This same person has been a few times over the years for allergy skin tests and they tell her that she is only mildly allergic to this or that. The allergist told her that she is in the 20% that do not respond to allergy skin tests meaning that he does not know what she is allergic too but she is and thus she cannot get allergy shots because he does not know what she is allergic too? What is the answer? Have you ever heard of this happening to others?
penicillin, Erc/ Zithromax, clydomyicin, anything penicllin related. Can take some sulfa drugs. Am so tired, and just out of energy. I'm not getting better just getting worse off. I am off to the hosp. tomorrow, they are usually at a loss on how to treat me...HELP. Thanks, very much.
This doesn't compute. Neither drug is in the penicillin category and both are commonly used in penicillin allergic patients. Azithro is very long acting and is normally given in a single dose for chlamydia or other STDs; I've never heard of it being prescribed it for 10 days.
I will add to this that if an allergic reaction to penicillin is detected, that is is most prudent to shy away from another penicillin meds as an allergy to that line of medications has been established. Rather than risking another reaction, the doctor should have immediately gone to a sulpha med or another class of antibiotics. The use of Augmentin as a secondary line of treatment is only if the amoxicillin is not effective.
Erythromycin Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic which has an antimicrobial spectrum similar to or slightly wider than that of penicillin, and is often used for people who have an allergy to penicillins. For respiratory tract infections, it has better coverage of atypical organisms, including mycoplasma and Legionellosis. It is also used to treat outbreaks of chlamydia, syphilis, acne, and gonorrhea.
However, in the past few years, a particular strain of syphilis has become common in gay men in some communities, like San Francisco and Dublin Ireland, and likely is spreading elsewhere. This strain is entirely resistant to azithromycin (Zithromax) and probably to erythromycin as well. (Erythromycin hasn't been studied, but it is related to azithromycin.) If infected with one of those strains, erythromycin probably won't work at all.
So long story short, I told him I want off the doxy and he switched me to Ceftin and Zithromax I believe. Have you guys heard of those and are they good? I don't know the exact dosages but I know they are high like 1000 mg a day. And yes, I am calling around to new LLMD's because this guy is a joke. Also, I know a lot of people that go to him and it seems like no one ever improves! Which is very scary.
I have had every test possible, rheumatoid wise, blood, allergy, neuro, Brain, and even sleep studies. I just want my active life back, and my son to be okay. I feel in the dark, suffering massivly from this. Best of luck to the rest of you folks. I hope you all get well, honestly.
The Z pack is antibiotics. Im allergic to penicillin and everything else it seems so thats all I can take to get rid of infection. Its called Zithromax. I NEVER got a sore throat before tx.A humidifier, naaa I would have to suffer more to to that. I never do what Im told. Im a non-conformist! Im sorry to hear about your dad.....I lost mine not long ago and life will never be the same. I miss him every waking second and never will really believe he's not here.
After 2 days on the Penicillin, things were getting worse.....lots of drainage into my nose, eyes, and throat and pain. I went to see an Oral/Maxillofacial surgeon who took an xray, and said he thought I fractured my sinus and put me on Zithromax. This did nothing after 7 days, so I called my ENT, who put me on Vantin. I developed a rash on my stomach after being on that for 7 days, so he took me off that. I then was off antibiotics altogether for about 2 weeks.
It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it. The spasm cough causes it all and when it goes away (usually 4 to 5 days) things are relatively normal although a normal cough stays with me for weeks after.
Ruzzi: I share your pain. Have sr-throt, dripping, off/on voice loss for over a yr. Know how to work the system w/Dr's. Did back ofc for yrs. We have a problem I called `I Dunno'! I made it up! I'm well knowledged w/ anatomy/nervous system. After 13 ENT's, 2 clinics, your tests + others & procedures, I dunno sounds like a dx. Make sure U get copies of ALL tests/procedures. You are allowed to have these for `Your Home Health File'.
The antibiotic was Zithromax. Once I noticed the Zithromax working, I applied hot compresses (and I mean HOT) to both armpits for about three days. Finally, after three days of hot compresses and about 5 days of Zithromax (Zithromax is only used for three to five days compared to most antibiotics which are 7-14 days), I decided I was going to try to get the nodules to drain. I'm a male, so I have armpit hair...
I had terrible allergies and asthma as child, but went 2x a week for several years for allergy shots. In my 20's and 30's I believe am almost allergy free. I live with 2 cats which I could have never have done as a child. Keep in mind the itching is also present in the right nipple. This often happens when the palm itching begins. I don't see any dryness on the nipple or the palms. Thank you for your help!
The few times we are able to get her hearing tested when there is no fluid she hears fine. She is now severely allergic to Ceclor (anaphylactic) and gets hives with Amoxil and Penicillin, as well as Demoral (tho not an antibiotic). She was never healthy enough to get tubes when little. She just finished 10 days of Biaxin a week ago, and within 3 days of finishing medicines was in severe pain again, another infection or I guess the old one wasn't completely gone.
Nasonex, is a nasal steroid which shrinks the swelling and decreases mucous production Clarinex, is an antihistamine and helps prevent the histamine hormone tell the body to produce mucous and fight the allergy Augmentin XR. is a broad spectrum extended release penicillin with clavulanate to fight penicillinase producing bacteria. used to kill bacteria.
I have very similar problems. I was on penicillin for a sore throat and 3 days after the meds finished I got another sore throat, this time really dry then I noticed my tongue was orange. It has been going on for a week and a half and I always feel dry and I have a lot of phlegm all day and the tongue colour goes up and down but always orange. From the posts it looks mostly like it must be to do with being on meds. We don't have many forest fires or the city pollution problems here!
I tried it. And to make things worse, I can't be allergy tested until I stay off all allergy medications for a week. I've rescheduled twice already. The longest I've made it without meds was 3 days. PLEASE HELP! The steriods helped but only for a few days. Any sugestions?
It is hard to explain but it is a miserable feeling.. I was recently on penicillin for a bladder infection and my mouth was so sore I could not eat. I am wondering if certain meds trigger this re-action. I am 71 years old and have had a few allergies and sinus problems, but otherwise in good health..I wish you all the very best and hope we can find something to stop this...
Beside that i do have neck pain like other have mentionned (probably du to several fall on my head) and i also have many allergy. I eat a lots and well but i may not hydrate enough. Now i hope this will go away by itself if really nobody know for sure what it is...
