Zithromax and lyme disease

Common Questions and Answers about Zithromax and lyme disease

zithromax

Avatar f tn In your situation, I would take my child to a Lyme specialist for diagnosis and treatment *now*. Infectious disease MDs are, sadly, some of the docs most resistant to the idea of Lyme as something to be taken seriously. You might take your daughter back to the doc at Emory who at least considered the possibility of Lyme or ask him/her for a referral to a Lyme-friendly doc.
1260255 tn?1288654564 ve had neuro symptoms since July 2002 and am now on my 3rd neuo, one who specializes in MS and demyelinating disease. My MRIs from 2007 and 2010 show multiple brain lesions (pix posted in my profie), however the new neuro says that the lesions are not typical for MS and she is triyng to rule out other possibilities, including Lyme. I think one thing that may have triggered her to suspect this is that in late May 2002, I had a high fever (102) and thought I had a viral infection.
216175 tn?1226095585 I just recently was put on Metanx and have noticed that alot of the burning is almost gone. If this were Lyme disease why would a b vitamin supplement help? I have been on abx a few times over the past 7 years, and I don't ever remember that I had a herx at all. I am now recovering from the flu, and my doctor wants me to take zithromax for the cough that is lingering. I have never taken it before, I only ever took amoxicillin.
237053 tn?1258828426 I was on it for 3 months with little improvement, and have just began taking Amox, Zithromax, and Flagyl Pulsed. With the information I've provided, does lyme disease seem like the correct diagnosis? Do you believe I can safely rule out MS? Also what do my lab results mean? I am so worried I may have something else and am treating the wrong thing. I appreciate your help! Thank you!
Avatar f tn Sounds like it's lyme related to me, lyme disease is known to cause skin sensations like "tingly" feelings although i've never read about one like you have. I don't want to scare you - but that sounds like it could also be related to a co-infection you received during the tick bite. However, symptoms can still develop while on doxycycline treatment as i've also had many new symptoms develop while on it.
1353650 tn?1429463374 Hi have an elevated rheumatoid factor 52-70 and been diagnosed with lyme disease. I have been treated with doxycycline for 4 months and lyme tests finally showed positive. I had a few herx reactions while on the doxy, one was pretty bad. I have read that microplasma is a possible cause of rheumatoid arthritis and want to know if I should continue taking the doxy. My lyme md wants to put me on I.V. Rocephin and oral zithromax for lyme.
280418 tn?1306325910 These Naturopathic physicians believed and started treating both lyme and CFS long before western medicine practitioners believed these conditions were real and knew how to treat them with prescription medications. I'm finding out why Cher goes to Germany for her EBV/CFS treatments. Their homeopathic formulas (the UNDA and PLEO's) kick butt !
Avatar n tn You should look for a Lyme specialist or Neurologist who knows about Lyme Disease.
Avatar f tn -- azithromycin (Zithromax) and atovaquone (Mepron) for 4 months -- clindamycin (Biaxin) and cefdinir (Omnicef) for 5 months -- stopped due to edema -- metronidazole (Flagyl) and azithromycin (Zithromax) for 4 months + 1 week -- stopped (dr's orders) due to severe intestinal inflammation from Flagyl Now 3 days after stopping the meds, I can feel the disease symptoms creeping slowly back, and want to figure out (before seeing my dr again) what tricks there are to tolerate these meds aga
Avatar f tn I am now going to be treated as clinically diagnosed Lyme Disease...... I cannot believe I finally have an answer... My doctor believes that since taking the doxy I have had improvement (left hand tremor is easing up) and also had some herxing, (my body feels like a battle zone, muscle twitching, extreme fatigue and my joints feel like at some point they are going to break off and separate from my body. I feel like I have a fever, but my temp. is 97.1, which is seen in lyme disease.
1297538 tn?1278546102 Ticks also carry more than just Lyme disease, and sometimes these co-infections, which are even more difficult to test for, can complicate the diagnostic picture. None of the tests for tick borne infections are universally considered to be adequate for detection and correct diagnosis. Some LLMD's do extra testing to try and get some evidence for the diagnosis, which can be very helpful to the patient if they are trying to use insurance to cover treatment.
Avatar f tn i started to feel a little less scary, so i then started only 1 zithromax/day and 1 artemisinin and things went nuts again. i felt like i was going to die. my LLMD then suggested i go off for another week and resume taking 1 zithromax for 7 days, adding 1 artemisinin for the last 3 days, every other week.
Avatar f tn Also look for affinity groups such as the Florida Lyme Disease Association, which may have a list of Lyme specialists in Florida. I just searched on google for -- florida lyme disease association -- and got hits for several different Lyme organizations in Florida, with variations on the name.
Avatar n tn They should also be looking for Celiac's (wheat allergy) and heart disease and other liver disease like liver cancer. I had 7 other tests done for cause of high enzymes when I was diagnosed with hepatitis, including iron to be sure liver was not storing it.
Avatar f tn Cat Scratch Fever, is Bartonella, and Bartonella is a Co - infection of Lyme. I went on and on, and answered tons of questions, even the Teacher asked me questions!! So,,,,, I think I opened up some eyes... and I told them to not fear going in the woods or being outside, but to just simply do a tick check or look for a bulls eye mark, or unexplained rashes.
Avatar f tn Wags: I have over 20 lesions on my brain and that's not a typo! Mine are small and scattered throughout my brain. The first thing the neuro asked me was "have you had lyme disease"! They ran every test under the sun and everything including the LP came back normal (thank goodness I guess). Anyhow, it also did not show Lyme disease. I was then tested at Igenex and came back positive for lyme and erlichosis.
Avatar m tn clarithromycin/Biaxin and cefdinir/Omnicef -- 5 months -- drug holiday due to side effects of probiotics--2 months -- for Lyme: Zithromax/azithromycin and Flagyl/metronidazole -- 4 months ------------------------------------------------- This may have been an abbreviated treatment schedule, because I had continuing problems from the probiotics, so my schedule is odd in at least that way.
1763947 tn?1334055319 My friend with Lyme-Babs-Bart also took Mepron and Zithromax. I believe Mepron is the first and best choice, but other anti-malarials can be used if it doesn't work out well. I am glad you tested positive. I am not glad you have it, but I have heard many stories of people who had it for a long time and were testing negative. Less than half test positive, so that's a good thing. You should start feeling better soon.
Avatar f tn the tests to determine this was an ELISHA TEST and a WESTERN BLOT TEST. same tests used for HIV. could it be at all possible that I could have HIV and not Lyme disease and they were diagnosed wrong? Im freaking out and very worried.
Avatar n tn Sometimes people with an autoimmune disease are later diagnosed with Lyme disease. Have you ever been bitten by a tick??? I gradually developed stomach problems about seven years ago after being bitten by a tick. I've tested negative for lyme every time (PCR test) but I'm now on IM Rocephin as a "challenge". I'll get my final lyme test done after that round of antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the help, but I got some bad news today (in my perspective), I went to an ID doctor and he says that the other doctors were wrong and I don't have Lyme Disease, and he doesn't know what I have. He said that I was positive for IgM antibodies , but not the right ones that indicate Lyme. I really don't know. He thinks I might have a rheumatic problem. If anyone has any ideas I'm welcome to any opinions.
1692704 tn?1307211780 Practitioners not familiar with Lyme disease may mistake depression as the underlying problem rather than a result of the bacterial infection that Lyme disease is. There is lots of medical literature out there on this point. For example, below is a portion of a 1992 article posted at lymenet, co-authored by a number of distinguished and experienced physicians and scientists. Yes, the article is 19 years old and still stands, so this is not new information.
Avatar n tn My dog had lyme a couple years ago. I still give him frontline. I don't think they really know whether or not dogs get immune to lyme or not (it's bacterial though, not viral, so it seems you could still get a second infection). I would think my vet would have told me if I did not need to give it anymore. But just to be on the safe side I still give it - I don't want to go through that again. I don't think there are different types of lyme disease.
