Avatar f tn Make them aware of your ENTIRE medication list since oftentimes it is the drug-drug interactions that trigger QT prolongation and arrhythmia. 3) Is a prolonged qtc more concerning in someone with Morbitz I heart block than someone without? -- There should NOT be a elevated risk in patients with pre-existing Mobitz Type I heart block as far as prolonged QTc is concerned, since they affect separate tissues in the heart (conduction vs. contraction).
Avatar m tn So..... Several things can cause a prolongation of the QTc interval, measurement of the QTc can be very difficult and thr values are not always accurate, and your value of 440 ms is not in a concerning range. Do follow up with your doctor if you are concerned.
Avatar f tn 2 days ago, I got really stressed at work and had a moderate panic attack, I went to the GP and they did an ECG to reassure me. Everything was fine except the Qt/Qtc which was 446/488 (heart rate was 72). the doctor there said not to worry. Today I had another ECG with my local GP. The result for the Qt/Qtc was 404/484. I guess now I am really worried, all previous ECGs have been perfect. My Dr says ECGs are inaccurate and has sent the reading to a cardiologist. My questions are: 1.
Avatar n tn I just obtained his medical records today and im very confused. The first EKG showed a QTc of 485 (0 days old), the second (1 day old) showed a QTc of 449, and the third (2 days old) showed a QTc of 459. The notes say the first EKG shows a prolonged QT interval and the notes from the second day say, "EKG shows QTC still prolonged" and the third note says his EKG is normal???? Why is 459 normal when it is longer than 449 which was considered prolonged?
1900997 tn?1321659956 If you note in the article, concerns of the elderly are expressed concerning QTc prolongation in relation to dose and age. Though by no means am I suggesting your 45 years is equated to being elderly, it does suggest that change can occur with age, as the concerns about the phenomenon in those 60 and older is addressed. If I were in your place, I'd see about a reduction in the dosage of Citalopram and retesting at the doctor's recommended interval. http://cpnp.
460830 tn?1347219306 YOU TAKE BESIDES ERYTHROMYCIN THAT MAY AFFECT HEART RHYTHM (QTc PROLONGATION IN THE EKG). QTc PROLONGATION CAN INFREQUENTLY RESULT IN SERIOUS, RARELY FATAL, IRREGLAR HEARTBEATS. ASK FOR INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT WHETHER YOU NEED TO STOP ANY OTHER QTc-PROLONGING MEDS YOU MAY BE USING IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE THE RISK OF THIS EFFECT.
Avatar f tn Dear Scared, Anorexia nervosa causes a number of abnormal findings around the body, and that includes within the heart. The heart muscle can thin and be starved, which can decrease its function. As well, the body's electrolytes can be abnormal, which can alter the electrical conduction properties of the heart.
Avatar f tn follow up appointments measured it at 470, and 487. Exercise stress test showed prolongation of the QTc interval which got above 500 and also sudden drop in BP during cool down period of test. Genetic tests recently came back negative for the known mutations causing LQTS1-12. Other history: panic attacks since age 7 with very bad episodes after drinking caffeine, taking celexa, numbing shot at dentist, first few months after my daughter was born.
Avatar f tn Do you know how fast your heart rate was during the ECG? Heart rate can have a huge effect on your QTc especially if they are using the Bazett formula (the most used and least accurate formula to determine Qtc).
Avatar f tn you have nothing to worry about..i also have anxiety, along with other stuff like hypertension and atrial fibrillation. during one of my ekg's after i had a panic attack,my QTC was 603. is the zoloft helping? i don't like to take any SSRI's.
Avatar n tn It was the EP dr who read the ekg while I was in his office. He requested that I wear a holter monitor for 24 hours but haven't gotten results back yet. I am assuming no news is good news. Today, I went to my cardio's office for my weekly ekg and QT / QTc intervals was within normal limits. Can QT / QTc intervals be prolonged one time and normal the next time? I have had three prolonged intervals in the past 6 months but also several normal ones.
Avatar m tn ve had these palpitations all my life. On my Holter study it showed a slightly high QTc interval of around 453ms. (another sheet said 448ms). I understand that anything above 430-440ms is borderline and possibly indicative of long qt syndrome. So, I was just wondering regarding long qt syndrome, if it is what I have and it is a gene inheritance deal is sleeping a trigger of symptoms and problems for people with LQT1 and LQT2, or is that just with the rarer LQT3.?
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm a 37 yr old male and who has suffered with anxiety for many years. About 2 years ago, I discontinued taking Lexapro (took for about 8 - 10 years) and have been debating taking it again to help with my anxiety. Last year I was diagnosed with an IRBBB/Incomplete Right Brundle Branch Block. I am concerned about Lexapro and it's cardiovascular side effects, especially QT Prolongation which is listed as a potential side effect.
1124887 tn?1313754891 It had not, my QTc was unchanged from earlier, at 388 msec, however, my QT dispersion was increased from 15 to 34 msec. My previous EKGs did almost always show LVH for some weird reason (sV1+rV5 3,6-3,7 mV) though no LAD (the QRS axis is 60 degrees). Echo two years ago revealed a normal LV mass, wall thickness (10 mm) and function (EF 70%).
Avatar f tn Hi all. I am currently taking ziprasidone along with lamictil and topamax and Lexapro as well as an occasional Ativan. I have been taking 80mg ziprasidone-geodon- twice a day for almost three years now. It has made me gain almost 200 pounds! I need to get off of it but Everytime I do I start the withdrawal. Has anybody else been on geodon this long and gained so much weight? I even exercise and can't get it off.
Avatar f tn Hello, I went to a new pcp for a checkup and he heard a heart murmur, which he said was probably normal but told me to see a cardiologist to be safe. He also told me the nurse was going to give me an ecg before I left. I had the ecg and left the office. About 20 minutes later the receptionist called me and said the doctor wanted me to come back to get the ecg results to take to the cardiologist. He had writted "prolonged QTc" on the ecg.
Avatar f tn (have been on said meds for about 5 years). her 2 suggestions are abilify and ziprasidone--i know nothing about either of these meds and would greatly appreciate any info. and input you may have. (i have until friday to research these meds and want to be as informed as possible) thank you very much in advance for your time.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm bipolar with psychosis and am currently tapering off of ziprasidone 80mg twice daily. I totally dropped my second dose along with lamotrigine, and Lexapro. So right now I am currently taking ziprasidone 80 mg, chantix 1mg, topamax 50mg 3x day, and ropinirole for side effects 1 mg once a day. I can't believe I actually made it through the night last night.
Avatar f tn With regard to the LVH/LVE and the QTc prolongation, these also require actual evaluation of the ECG. The computer algorithms in these machines are far from perfect, and often overcall things. There should be at least 2 criteria on the ECG to demonstrate left ventricular hypertrophy (abnormal thickening of the left ventricular muscle), but often there is only one, which means that it's an overcall. The QTc interval is one of many interval measurements that we evaluate on the ECG.
Avatar f tn She is currently taking Cymbalta, Lamotrigine, Seroquel and Ziprasidone. She has been depressed for a few years but it suddenly got worse since she started to take ziprasidone. She has been taking it for about 2 weeks now. She informed us that she is hearing voices telling her to harm herself. She has experimented in cutting in the past, but yesterday she did it to the extreme resulting in numerous cuts to her arm. Is taking these four medications together a detriment to her mind set?
Avatar n tn They started her on propralin and did a holter. During the holter monitoring her Qtc varied from 410 to about 480. Qtc was 410 when her heart rate was at the lowest, about 80 bmp. We continued on propralin after we got home from NICU. Today at 3 months of age we had an apointment at our hospital where they again took ECG that showed QTc being 450. I have the ECG infront of me that says bmp 140, QT/QTC 310/450.

Avatar m tn The presence of portosystemic shunts, including TIPS, may lead to increased bioavailability of drugs leading to QTc prolongation in cirrhotics, which may precipitate potentially fatal ventricular arrhythmias. Very few drugs have been shown to have their hepatotoxicity potential enhanced by CLD with or without cirrhosis; nearly all of these involve antituberculosis agents given in the setting of chronic hepatitis B or C and among HIV/AIDS patients.
Avatar n tn My holter only shows pac 7 beats and other than that is fine. My qt avg was 383 and qtc avg was 398. My QT max was 467 and QTc max was 480 msec. My percentage of QTc greater than 450 ms was 0%. The other two ekg that I was done about 4 years ago show qt 372 qtc 421 and qt 360 qtc 428. My echo is fine.
