Ziprasidone medication

Common Questions and Answers about Ziprasidone medication

geodon

Avatar f tn She is currently taking Cymbalta, Lamotrigine, Seroquel and Ziprasidone. She has been depressed for a few years but it suddenly got worse since she started to take ziprasidone. She has been taking it for about 2 weeks now. She informed us that she is hearing voices telling her to harm herself. She has experimented in cutting in the past, but yesterday she did it to the extreme resulting in numerous cuts to her arm. Is taking these four medications together a detriment to her mind set?
Avatar n tn Ziprasidone (Geodon) is a medication that must be withdrawn from very slowly. I would urge you, STRONGLY, to seek the advice of a qualified physician to help with this procedure. If you are unable to afford a doctors visit, please consult your local pharmacist in helping with your daughters withdrawl. Pharmacists are DOCTORS OF PHARMACOLOGY and can tell you the correct way to proceed. Please do not attempt this on your own.
Avatar f tn Why do you want to discontinue your medication. Regularly meds should be weaned down.
142722 tn?1281533616 If I take any more than 20 mg. My body shutters inside and shakes and I HAVE to shove stuff in my mouth because I feel like I'm having a diabetic attack, anyone else have this? Also can I combine abilify with Geodon.
Avatar f tn Hi all. I am currently taking ziprasidone along with lamictil and topamax and Lexapro as well as an occasional Ativan. I have been taking 80mg ziprasidone-geodon- twice a day for almost three years now. It has made me gain almost 200 pounds! I need to get off of it but Everytime I do I start the withdrawal. Has anybody else been on geodon this long and gained so much weight? I even exercise and can't get it off.

Avatar f tn Hi. I'm bipolar with psychosis and am currently tapering off of ziprasidone 80mg twice daily. I totally dropped my second dose along with lamotrigine, and Lexapro. So right now I am currently taking ziprasidone 80 mg, chantix 1mg, topamax 50mg 3x day, and ropinirole for side effects 1 mg once a day. I can't believe I actually made it through the night last night.
672788 tn?1238120672 I have just started ziprasidone and I was wondering if anyone else has been taking this medication and how well has it worked? How long was it before you noticed a change?
Avatar m tn It also slightly increases the QTc interval in some patients and increases the risk of a potentially lethal type of heart arrythmia known as torsades de pointes. Ziprasidone should be used cautiously in patients taking other medications likely to interact with ziprasidone or increase the QTc interval.
Avatar m tn I take 20 mg of Geodone and Fluoxetine for depression. I forgot to take it one night and didn't sleep at all and later in the day, I began freaking out about my hands. It made no sense, but it brought me to tears because I thought something was wrong with my hands. I started bawling and couldn't stop, I was completely terrified. Was that from not taking my medication, or something different? Thanks.
Avatar n tn About a month ago I was able to lower my self off of paliperidone and onto ziprasidone which is the same category of drug as paliperidone but studies have shown that out of all antipsychotics ziprasidone had the least amount of weight gain. So I’ve been on ziprasidone for about a month now and I’m still losing weight while walking. Sometimes after my walks I only accumulate around 100 calories a day. On days that I splurge a bit and take in around 800 calories a day, I gain weight though.

Avatar f tn A friend of mind took 1200 mg of ziprasidone should I be worried? I don't think it is correct. Please let me know, I have been looking but can't find anything on that amount. She needs help, she is not in a good place right now.
Avatar f tn Any medication can sometimes take a week or two or longer to take full effect while some will take effect instantaneously. It all depends on the person of course. When I took Geodon I sometimes would "drool and stumble" figuratively for the former (felt really dumb some days) and literally for the latter (dragged my feet and sometimes felt drunk).
520191 tn?1355635402 Then from there ask about the specific side effect profile and efficacy of each one as regards its effect on depression and you could also look up the medication website. From what I am reading Amisulpride like Seroquel does have a mood stabilization effect and actually has shown efficacy on depresion though only a psychiatrist would understand this in full.
883607 tn?1241847511 I think that it's just two guys sitting together in a lab and then one motions the other over and starts snickering and goes "Hey, look at what I wrote on here for the name of this medication ha ha ha!" "Oh wow Ziprasidone, that'll really knock their socks off ha ha ha!
Avatar m tn Cool , that's great new's them finding the right dose for you , sometime's that's all it take's instead of switching from med to med . Are you sleeping better now ? . As for Risperdal quiet a few people have problem's with weight gain from that drug i did also , but i found it more effective in smaller dose than higher because i got other side effect's at a higher dose simmilar to the Ziprasidone.
Avatar f tn I didn't gain weight on Geodon whatsoever but I have on Abilify but Abilify is supposed to be the one that causes the least amount of weight gain according to everyone I talked to about it including my psychiatrist. This isn't the case for me but I guess medicines work differently for everyone..
969557 tn?1314370614 When the tics resolve after discontinuation of the medication, then a medication-induced tic disorder becomes clearer to diagnose. Prolonged tics after a medication are more likely a primary tic disorder unrelated to the medication. Tics are of several types. They are movements of vocalizations that are associated with an urge that is only briefly suppressible.
Avatar n tn The important thing to remember is that unless tics are socially disabling, causing discomfort for the person who has them or impairing function, they do not necessarily have to be treated. Any medication has side effects, and treatment should therefore be weighed against no treatment at all. In very severe cases of Tourette's in young people, there is a surgery called deep brain stimulation which can be tried, but this is still new and under research.
Avatar f tn I didn't notice any weight gain but again, everyone is different.and it isn't really know for that like ziprasidone(Zyprexa) is.
Avatar f tn my psychiatrist allowed me to reduce dosage from 20 mg geodon (ziprasidone) and 4 mg perphenazine to zero milligrams geodon and 4 mg perphenazine. i took zero mg geodon and 4 mg perphenazine for just one day and have terrible chills up my back.
Avatar f tn They have never been abnormal before in my life. Could this be caused by my medication, Geodon? Has it ever happened that a chemical reaction takes place in the spinal fluid where the globulin cells decide to attach to a small protein which would cause the fluids to accumulate in the brain case and spinal column and they can't get out? Could this be causing encephalitis? This is just my theory but does it make any sense? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Ask your doctor before taking ANY medication.
