Avatar f tn Hi all. I am currently taking ziprasidone along with lamictil and topamax and Lexapro as well as an occasional Ativan. I have been taking 80mg ziprasidone-geodon- twice a day for almost three years now. It has made me gain almost 200 pounds! I need to get off of it but Everytime I do I start the withdrawal. Has anybody else been on geodon this long and gained so much weight? I even exercise and can't get it off.

I can't believe I actually made it through the night last night.
Avatar m tn It also slightly increases the QTc interval in some patients and increases the risk of a potentially lethal type of heart arrythmia known as torsades de pointes. Ziprasidone should be used cautiously in patients taking other medications likely to interact with ziprasidone or increase the QTc interval.
1128565 tn?1316721143 The anticholinergic rebound should be over. Try supplementing with choline and inositol to restore your acetylcholine which is causing withdrawal symptoms and B vitamin complex and fish oil too to help your brain. You must have severely depleted your acethylcholine.
Avatar f tn She is currently taking Cymbalta, Lamotrigine, Seroquel and Ziprasidone. She has been depressed for a few years but it suddenly got worse since she started to take ziprasidone. She has been taking it for about 2 weeks now. She informed us that she is hearing voices telling her to harm herself. She has experimented in cutting in the past, but yesterday she did it to the extreme resulting in numerous cuts to her arm. Is taking these four medications together a detriment to her mind set?

Avatar n tn Ziprasidone (Geodon) is a medication that must be withdrawn from very slowly. I would urge you, STRONGLY, to seek the advice of a qualified physician to help with this procedure. If you are unable to afford a doctors visit, please consult your local pharmacist in helping with your daughters withdrawl. Pharmacists are DOCTORS OF PHARMACOLOGY and can tell you the correct way to proceed. Please do not attempt this on your own.
Avatar n tn Tremors are a result of imbalance dopamine in the body and usually medications such as levodopa or Anticholinergic drugs-such as Atropine, Atrovent, Oxivent, Spiriva, and Rubinol are used to treat them. Nicotine counteracts anticholinergic medications. If the tremors are alcohol related then detox is necessary to decrease them. I Hope This Helps. Good Luck and God Bless!
1128565 tn?1316721143 First of all it is not quite clear what is causing all the symptoms but an important and proven factor from a neurobiological point of view is called an anticholinergic rebound. When you stop a antidepressant drug it is very likely to cause interruption of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine (involved in memory and learning and other cognitive function as well widely used when a person is under stress, it's depletion cause a variety of symptoms).
Avatar f tn A friend of mind took 1200 mg of ziprasidone should I be worried? I don't think it is correct. Please let me know, I have been looking but can't find anything on that amount. She needs help, she is not in a good place right now.

Avatar m tn Cool , that's great new's them finding the right dose for you , sometime's that's all it take's instead of switching from med to med . Are you sleeping better now ? . As for Risperdal quiet a few people have problem's with weight gain from that drug i did also , but i found it more effective in smaller dose than higher because i got other side effect's at a higher dose simmilar to the Ziprasidone.

1128565 tn?1316721143 While it is true that a certain brand of Benadryl can help for withdrawal due to it's sedative effect and action on the H1 receptor, Benadryl also have anticholinergic effect. The withdrawal is mainly due to what is called a ''anticholinergic rebound'' what you need is to rebalance your cholinergic system by providing your body/brain with extra choline & inositol (supplementing with choline and inositol to restore the depleted levels of acetylcholine).
Avatar n tn Caution is advised when taking antihistamines with BPH because of the anticholinergic properties of antihistamines. Anticholinergics can make peeing difficult. Avatar n tn About a month ago I was able to lower my self off of paliperidone and onto ziprasidone which is the same category of drug as paliperidone but studies have shown that out of all antipsychotics ziprasidone had the least amount of weight gain. So I’ve been on ziprasidone for about a month now and I’m still losing weight while walking. Sometimes after my walks I only accumulate around 100 calories a day. On days that I splurge a bit and take in around 800 calories a day, I gain weight though.

1494915 tn?1288919486 There are treatments that can help, such as anticholinergic agents that target the muscarinic receptors in the bladder, and they reduce the contractility of the muscles in the bladder. There can be a number of causes of this condition, including neurological problems, bladder infections (one of the most common causes), medications, cancer, etc. You should be checked for any of these by your physician.
Avatar m tn Procyclidine is an anticholinergic drug this is also related to memory trouble. Zyprexa is an atypical antipsychotic with affinity to the GABAa recpetor which, like most antipsychotic, can cause memory problem and especially anterograde memory. A wise thing to do would be to get on a nootropic regiment. You need to augment you choline intake due the the disruption in you cholinergic system cause by the anticholinergic drug you use.
Avatar n tn If an underlying cause is not found, anticholinergic medication can help, such as atropine, scopolamine, or even benadryl. The blood in your sputum is concerning, this needs to be checked by your doctor since that does not commonly accompany sialorrhea.
Avatar n tn Benedryl causes anticholinergic activity. This can be dangerous if they have urinary retention or glacoma. Or can cause some Glacoma hypertension. So I would say ask your doctor if your meds would not interact right with your current meds. I have copd moterately severe and use benedryl for sleep, and am benefited by the antihistamine as well. Good luck to you! I hope this helped.
