Ziprasidone and qtc

Common Questions and Answers about Ziprasidone and qtc

geodon

Avatar m tn It also slightly increases the QTc interval in some patients and increases the risk of a potentially lethal type of heart arrythmia known as torsades de pointes. Ziprasidone should be used cautiously in patients taking other medications likely to interact with ziprasidone or increase the QTc interval.
Avatar f tn Hi all. I am currently taking ziprasidone along with lamictil and topamax and Lexapro as well as an occasional Ativan. I have been taking 80mg ziprasidone-geodon- twice a day for almost three years now. It has made me gain almost 200 pounds! I need to get off of it but Everytime I do I start the withdrawal. Has anybody else been on geodon this long and gained so much weight? I even exercise and can't get it off.
Avatar f tn (have been on said meds for about 5 years). her 2 suggestions are abilify and ziprasidone--i know nothing about either of these meds and would greatly appreciate any info. and input you may have. (i have until friday to research these meds and want to be as informed as possible) thank you very much in advance for your time.
20794198 tn?1534529493 On some of my old ecgs, I did see one of them at 66bpm and it spat out a QT of 368ms and a QTc of 385ms. Following that was one with a rate of 85bpm and it spat out a QT of 342ms and a QTc of 406ms ?? I must be reading them wrong perhaps? I did already have a stress test in 2015 on a treadmill @ 201bpm and the e.p said everything was fine.
Avatar f tn I'm currently taking zopiclone for sleep been taking them for ten days. Can I just stop taking these? I've been diagnosed with depression and anxiety I'm also currently taking propranolol and fluoxetine.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm bipolar with psychosis and am currently tapering off of ziprasidone 80mg twice daily. I totally dropped my second dose along with lamotrigine, and Lexapro. So right now I am currently taking ziprasidone 80 mg, chantix 1mg, topamax 50mg 3x day, and ropinirole for side effects 1 mg once a day. I can't believe I actually made it through the night last night.
Avatar f tn She is currently taking Cymbalta, Lamotrigine, Seroquel and Ziprasidone. She has been depressed for a few years but it suddenly got worse since she started to take ziprasidone. She has been taking it for about 2 weeks now. She informed us that she is hearing voices telling her to harm herself. She has experimented in cutting in the past, but yesterday she did it to the extreme resulting in numerous cuts to her arm. Is taking these four medications together a detriment to her mind set?
Avatar m tn MY FATHER HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. COULD THIS BE INHERITABLE? I AM 46 YRS. OLD AND MY DAD AND UROLOGIST THINKS THIS IS BECAUSE OF THE MEDICATIONS I'M ON AS FOLLOWS: 1) IBUPROFEN 800MG. 2X DAY, 2) PERPHENAZINE 4MG. 2X DAY, 3) BENZTROPINE 2MG. 2X DAY, 4) MONTELUKAST 10MG. 1X DAY, 5) VALACYCLOVIR 500MG 2X DAY, 6) ZIPRASIDONE 80MG. 2X DAY, 7) BUSPIRONE 15MG. 2X DAY, 8) METOPROLOL 25MG. 2X DAY, 9) THEOPHYLLINE 300MG. 2X DAY, 10) METOCLOPRAMIDE 5MG. 4X DAY, 11) LEVETIRACETAM 1,000MG.
Avatar f tn The QT interval varies with the heart rate and the faster the rate the shorter the QT and with slow heart rates the QT prolongs. However 695 is distinctly abnormal and clearly requires further workup. As mentioned drugs can also alter the QT interval. At slow heart rates --in the 40's the QT can approach 500 msec in normal women.
Avatar n tn My holter only shows pac 7 beats and other than that is fine. My qt avg was 383 and qtc avg was 398. My QT max was 467 and QTc max was 480 msec. My percentage of QTc greater than 450 ms was 0%. The other two ekg that I was done about 4 years ago show qt 372 qtc 421 and qt 360 qtc 428. My echo is fine.
Avatar n tn Have you discussed your concerns with your doctor? It would be very easy to determine your QTc before and after starting medications, which would tell you whether you are part of a rare, high risk group of people that should not take that medication. The odds are, that you do not fall into this group and so can take medications that your doctor thinks will benefit you.
Avatar f tn From what I can gather from what you posted, 3.8% of the time your daughter has a QTc greater than 450 ms and a maximum QTc of 669 ms. Based on this information, more tests might be needed. Holter monitors are not perfect and the 669 ms is very concerning BUT this could certainly be an artifact/error. Rare genetic conditions, electrolyte imbalances, and medications can cause elongation of the QTc interval.
Avatar n tn I just obtained his medical records today and im very confused. The first EKG showed a QTc of 485 (0 days old), the second (1 day old) showed a QTc of 449, and the third (2 days old) showed a QTc of 459. The notes say the first EKG shows a prolonged QT interval and the notes from the second day say, "EKG shows QTC still prolonged" and the third note says his EKG is normal???? Why is 459 normal when it is longer than 449 which was considered prolonged?
142722 tn?1281533616 how is this i am taking 20 and feel anioux(sp) all day long still. He wants to move me up to 40. does this anxiety stop any time soon. i take litmical(sp) to 200mg.
Avatar m tn In LQT2 a sudden shot of adrenaline and increase in HR will cause the rise in QTc, which is why alarm clocks and such are the triggers for that one. LQT3 is the opposite way, as lower heart rates, and thus sleep are the triggers. Here are a few other things to consider though: Long QT Type 1 predominately affects children, so if you are 27 and are still alive your phenotype would be extremely mild, likely never killing you, even if this is what you have.
Avatar m tn ve been experiencing left side chest pain, palpatations, and weird heart beat felt in the chest and throat. I was reviewing my ekg's and was wondering if any of them suggested any type of abnormal heart rhythm.
Avatar m tn Once I panicked when they connected the electrodes, had a heart rate of 130 and a weird QTc interval (fairly long). And as you can see from the ECG on my profile page, my QT is not prolonged at all, rather on the short side.
488191 tn?1210285779 And, yes, a fast heart rate can effect the QT segment signal, but the computerized software will modify that signal to QTc (that is QT modified by the heart rate). The EKG will report both the QT and QTc signal and for analysis by an EP the QTc is usually the reference. Generally, an EKG requires further testing, symptoms and clinical evidence that will support an abnormal report. If I remember correctly, the sensitivity for false positives are about 20%.
Avatar n tn When this happens you go into cardiac arrest and die. There are a number of things that could cause the QTc interval to be too long. (QTc just means QT interval corrected for HR, with the point of reference being 60BPM). In your case 404ms at 78BPM corresponds to 460ms if your heart was beating 60BPM. It is the QTc, not the QT that is important. Certain genetic mutations that affect the potassium or sodium ion channels could cause this problem. That is what happens in Long QT Syndrome.
