geodon

Avatar n tn Hi- I developed severe akathisia after taking risperdal at night for sleep- it has been over 3 months since I have been off the meds and am suffering terribly. The neurologist I saw put me on xanax and I am up to 2 mg a day- divided throughout the day. As soon as the dose wears off I begin feeling horribly, anxious, more restless. I have been taking the xanax since May- and origionally was on a dose anywhere between .75 a day to maximum 1.
Avatar f tn Hi all. I am currently taking ziprasidone along with lamictil and topamax and Lexapro as well as an occasional Ativan. I have been taking 80mg ziprasidone-geodon- twice a day for almost three years now. It has made me gain almost 200 pounds! I need to get off of it but Everytime I do I start the withdrawal. Has anybody else been on geodon this long and gained so much weight? I even exercise and can't get it off.
Avatar n tn I, likewise, have symptoms of akathisia that can't be explained by meds. I found a brief abstract of a case report on a patient in India who developed akathisia after suffering encephalitis. That's it. Every other reference to akathisia I can find says it's caused by SSRIs, anti-psychotics, or a degenerative neurological disease like Parkinson's.
Avatar f tn (have been on said meds for about 5 years). her 2 suggestions are abilify and ziprasidone--i know nothing about either of these meds and would greatly appreciate any info. and input you may have. (i have until friday to research these meds and want to be as informed as possible) thank you very much in advance for your time.
1134609 tn?1269272200 Well, the unfortunate fact of the matter is that the akathisia side effect isn't manageable for me.... Yesterday, I had to use a hefty dose of benzos just to calm down. And believe me, I don't like taking my PRN benzos. I had to take ALL of my PRN medications (in the correct dosages) to finally get back to normal. The akathisia also manifests itself with a bad manic episode as well; this combination has sent me to the hospital three times.
2010625 tn?1329372056 I just started latuda 80mg. I got akathisia from it so my doctor put me on cogentin. I am not sure the cogentin is working though. Does it take a while for the cogentin to build up in the system before it starts working good? Or does the akathisia go away once you get use to the new med? I think it might be getting worse first it was just my leg shaking, tapping my fingers, and clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth a bit. Now it is so bad I can barely type because my hands are so fidgety.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm bipolar with psychosis and am currently tapering off of ziprasidone 80mg twice daily. I totally dropped my second dose along with lamotrigine, and Lexapro. So right now I am currently taking ziprasidone 80 mg, chantix 1mg, topamax 50mg 3x day, and ropinirole for side effects 1 mg once a day. I can't believe I actually made it through the night last night.
574118 tn?1305135284 Hi Colleagues Lately my akathisia increased. I tried to see whether it's due to the AD (stablon) or the seroquel. I found out that all atypical antipsychotics do it. Here a paragraph from the web """ I have schizoaffective disorder. After having taken clozapine/Clozaril for two years, I started to have akathisia. Akathisia makes me feel like I can't sit still, I have to walk around, and I feel like I want to jump out of my skin.
Avatar f tn I have severe Akathisa from my meds Invega Sustenna that has now stopped, but nearly after 12 months later,I am stil experiencing very bad akathisia,I am now on 125mg lithium daily & also take one Lorazepam daily to keep the akathisia at bay.I have trouble getting words out sometimes,I occasionally repat the same sentences over & over, never had or been like this before it's very frustrating,I also find it hard to sleep at night,as my mind won't switch off.
Avatar m tn It also slightly increases the QTc interval in some patients and increases the risk of a potentially lethal type of heart arrythmia known as torsades de pointes. Ziprasidone should be used cautiously in patients taking other medications likely to interact with ziprasidone or increase the QTc interval.
Avatar f tn She is currently taking Cymbalta, Lamotrigine, Seroquel and Ziprasidone. She has been depressed for a few years but it suddenly got worse since she started to take ziprasidone. She has been taking it for about 2 weeks now. She informed us that she is hearing voices telling her to harm herself. She has experimented in cutting in the past, but yesterday she did it to the extreme resulting in numerous cuts to her arm. Is taking these four medications together a detriment to her mind set?
3122467 tn?1342138836 I have akathisia from Abilify. To deal with it, I take a beta blocker, propranolol, and it works beautifully. Not only does it take care of the akathisia it also treats anxiety. Once i ran out of propranolol because it hadn't arrived from the mail order pharmacy and the akathisia came back so I know two things... I still have it and propranolol stops it.

Avatar m tn I suffered from severe symptoms of Akathisia after taking a medicine that contained prochlorperazine. I'm worried that if I go into an SSRI antidepressant (That supposedly can cause Akathisia as well) for my anxiety and depression, I will suffer from this horrible symptoms on the daily basis, which are far worse than any depression or panic attack I ever had... Is there any good alternatives I can discuss with my doctor?
Avatar m tn I have akathisia and am wondering from the group if the group knows any drug remedies for it -- I have tried quite a few -- please help.
Avatar f tn What's akathisia?
Avatar f tn you see i worried about getting akathisia and td. [ the doctors never told about terrible side effects before prescribing me these meds.] the pdoc is not of much help as he never listens to my concerns. please help if possible.
Avatar n tn Ziprasidone (Geodon) is a medication that must be withdrawn from very slowly. I would urge you, STRONGLY, to seek the advice of a qualified physician to help with this procedure. If you are unable to afford a doctors visit, please consult your local pharmacist in helping with your daughters withdrawl. Pharmacists are DOCTORS OF PHARMACOLOGY and can tell you the correct way to proceed. Please do not attempt this on your own.
Avatar n tn My question is about Akathisia. I am pretty sure I have this (although not diagnosed, never brought up either). I constantly have to stretch my biceps, clinch my jaw/neck crack stretch all my limbs, and ankles. I believe (after researching) this is what I have. I am prescribed Diazepam 5mg TID, a benzodiazepine. Along with research it is been read that Clonazepam is a treatment for Akathisia (which is obviously another benzodiazepine).
Avatar m tn i did a little bit of research and came to the conclusion that it is drug-induced akathisia, plus i feel sleepy all the time (might be from the jetlag),but i think it has something to do with the drug, even though i sleep fine now,and this feeling comes in waves now, sometimes with extreme feelings of terror which are obiously not in my head (its been about three weeks),feeling like im gonna throw up sometimes.
Avatar f tn A friend of mind took 1200 mg of ziprasidone should I be worried? I don't think it is correct. Please let me know, I have been looking but can't find anything on that amount. She needs help, she is not in a good place right now.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with tardive akathisia (an inner restlessness in your entire body that is there 24/7) 3 years ago, caused by Abilify. I no longer take any meds in that class of drugs but the akathisia persists and I was told by my doctor that it's probably permanent. It feels like torture 24/7. I have tried everything from benadryl to beta blockers to hydrocodone and nothing has worked except 10mg diazepam 3-4 times daily, with the fourth dose being used only if I desperately need it.
Avatar n tn I developed severe akathisia after taking Seroquel, Risperdal and Prozac- we are not sure of which one was the offender- docs think most likely it was the risperdal however prozac was initiated around the same time. I was on seroquel many years without any difficulty. The seroquel and risperdal were given for sleeping problems and the prozac for anxiety.
Avatar f tn I take propranolol for akathisia. Its primary use is for high blood pressure but it also works for akathisia and anxiety. I haven't found anything that states it causes memory problems. I would suspect the sleeping pills. Memory problems can also be caused by depression. The best thing you can do about it is to tell your psychiatrist was is happening with side effects.
