I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. The doctor said to stop the Lipitor...but stay on the Zetia...... and retest in 1-1/2 weeks which he did this past Sept. 30th.

Incidentally, unrelated to GA, I started taking Zetia for cholesterol about 3 years ago and soon thereafter developed a severe chronic cough that nearly drove me crazy (and everyone around me!) I saw several doctors and was given many different medicines.

Can anyone explain to me why I still had a heart attack even while taking the following meds atenenol 50mg bid, HCTZ 25mg daily, zetia 40mg daily, plavix 25mg daily, welchol 625mg bid. Also what is the chance of a second heart attack My Aortic Valve, Tricuspid Valve, and my Mitral Valve are failing because they are stenotic and regurgitative. Statins work in the liver and every commercial I have seen advises not to take if you have liver problems. Zetia works in the intestines. Was the Zetia working? If my memory serves me correctly, MikeS is taking statins and he had a TP. He is far more knowledgeable on the subject than I am and hopefully he will see this post and give his input. Both doctors, arthritis and cardiologist, keep drawing blood with these rates still climbing. After a year of this circle, and being a believer in preventive mediciene, my concern is should I be concerne?

My (74 year old) father currently is taking these medications together Pravastatin Sodium 80mg, Zetia 10 mg, Isosorbide Mnonitrate 30 mg, Metoprolol tartrate 50 mg, Plavix 75 mg, Amlodipine Besylate 10 mg, Aspirin (nsaid) 81 mg low dose The doctor told him his liver count is up 66 and the lower range is 64. Would any of these drugs or combination of these drugs make liver count increase?

Are you also on Lipitor, a beta blocker and niacin? And do you bruise easily and bleed a lot from a nick and or have nosebleeds?

I am 48 year old female, have had high cholestrol for which I have been on Zetia & Tricor for several years, now is almost normal. I understand your concern, but after much research concerning the side effects of statins meds, PVC's are not a listed side effect. In fact, statin use has been studied in exercise induced PVC trials and have been shown to reduce the incidence of PVCs due to exercise so it would stand to reason that they also do not affect normal heart rhythm. I was on Femara for almost 2 years with bad side effects. Switched to tamoxifen for the last 6 months. I also take zetia and lipitor for cholesterol as well as the usual vitamins/minerals (CA,C,D,Selenium, OsteoBiflex, zinc,multi,E).
