I'm not much of a researcher, but based on my tests, jon, I disagree. After my bypass surgery, I was prescribed Simvistatatin instead of Vytorin. I think it is an insurance issue. My total cholesterol level jumped 100 points after the six week test, and remains there after the second six week test. I'm back on Vytorin. Simvastation doesn't of course work with the cholesterol produced in our own bodies.

I am presently taking Zetia every other day. I also take Omega 3/6, vitamin A,E. With Zetia interfere with the absorption of the benefits of these supplements and if so what can I do to get the full benefit of Zetia and the supplements, if anything. Ar there any other supplements that should be avoided while taking Zetia? Many thanks.

I recently had a blood test and did the Gluclose test which I believe was a 2hr test. One of my test results said the normal ALT levels are 0-70 and my level came in at 116. Would these medications have anything to do with the levels: TriCor 145mg Metformin 850mg Lovaza formerly OmaCor 1gm Zetia 10mg Crestor 10mg I read liver issues - the blood count can be 10 to 50x higher than the normal high score (i.e. 70) and also read the meds I am on could also throw the blood counts off a bit.

Ever since I started taking Zetia and Fenofibrate together as recommended by my DR, I have put on pounds, am more bloated around the belly,a nd have persistent chest pains. I noticed this has occurred ever since I have been on cholesterol lowering meds, but is more noticeable in the past year with the new combination of drugs. I mentioned this to my DR and he said I need the drugs because of my High Cholesterol. What do you think?

I have been having some highCholesterol level for 3 years now. I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person.

What I am worried right now is my fibroscan results increased from 4.2 Kpa (9 months ago) to 6.1kpa. Is it because of Peg tx? My doc assured me that it's still in the normal range. I shouldn't take HepTec products right now because of tx, right? What should I do to reduce fibrosis? Advice please.

At that point, our doctor added 10 mg Zetia to his regimen because of elevated LDL particles. Also, my husband stopped all alcohol (he was a social drinker, around 2-3 glasses of wine per week) and NSAID's. A month later most of his LFT's were elevated, ALT 79, GGTP 178, ALP 113 & AST on upper end of normal at 40. The doctor said to stop the Lipitor...but stay on the Zetia...... and retest in 1-1/2 weeks which he did this past Sept. 30th.

Vytorin is a combination of Simvastatin and Zetia so you are taking the same thing without the Zetia so you should not see any changes in how your body reacts.

Incidentally, unrelated to GA, I started taking Zetia for cholesterol about 3 years ago and soon thereafter developed a severe chronic cough that nearly drove me crazy (and everyone around me!) I saw several doctors and was given many different medicines.

Can anyone explain to me why I still had a heart attack even while taking the following meds atenenol 50mg bid, HCTZ 25mg daily, zetia 40mg daily, plavix 25mg daily, welchol 625mg bid. Also what is the chance of a second heart attack My Aortic Valve, Tricuspid Valve, and my Mitral Valve are failing because they are stenotic and regurgitative. The Aortic valve is in the worst shape of the three they tell me. I have psoriatic arthritis and ankolosing spondylitis. all joints are involved.

Statins work in the liver and every commercial I have seen advises not to take if you have liver problems. Zetia works in the intestines. Was the Zetia working? If my memory serves me correctly, MikeS is taking statins and he had a TP. He is far more knowledgeable on the subject than I am and hopefully he will see this post and give his input. Zetia is part of a class of drugs called cholesterol absorption inhibitors.

After electrograms, changes in cholestrol medication,( lipitor, crestor,), now on zetia my tests keep coming in high.Outside of my lower extremities aches, which I credit to arthritis, I feel fine. Both doctors, arthritis and cardiologist, keep drawing blood with these rates still climbing. After a year of this circle, and being a believer in preventive mediciene, my concern is should I be concerne?

Anyone here know anything about zetia and its affect on the thyroid and or levo absorption? I have read it may affect absorption and the rx monograph says talk tp your doctor if you have thyroid disorders. He knows I am on synthroid, but I am curious how this drug affects it.

I recently had a visit with heart doctor. I had test done,found out that my cholesterol was 190. Couple of months ago it was 166. I have tried a lot of meds for this condition, have taken advicor,lipitor,crestor,zetia,tricor,provastatin,niaspan,gemfibronil. I have been on lovaza (omega 3,and 6 ) for the pass five months, but as you can see it has not helped very much. Heart doctor says I have taken the limit. I am 48 year old female, have had high cholestrol for which I have been on Zetia & Tricor for several years, now is almost normal. I had a bad reaction to the statins- ended up in the hospital with very high liver enzymes. Recently, I have been getting very lightheaded and experiencing pain in my upper arms. My doctor refered me to a cardiologist who performed the heart ultrasound and the holter which came back normal.

I was diagnosed in having a fatty liver. I take Zocor 40mg and Zetia 10mg. My ALT level is 120 and AST is 52. My question is should I control how much I drink or not drink at all?

My doctor has changed my medication to Crestor which I was told to first take one a week for a couple of weeks, then (2) pills a week for 6 weeks then he will order another blood test. How long does it take after I go off the first medication before I should be able to tell if it is the medicine causing my muscle soreness? With numbers as high as yours, you need some medical interaction as lifestyle changes alone will not get your levels low enough to be healthy. You could try getting some exercise, but I doubt if that alone would do it, even with a healthy diet. It is unfortunate that you are in the small minority of people (approx 1% of users) that have adverse side effects from statin use, but not all statins are the same.

I had an EGD for my acid reflux and after fasting all night, I still had food in my stomach. My doctor ordered a "stomach emptying" test that lasted 4 hours. After 4 hours, I still had food in my stomach, but I don't know how much. I'm waiting for my doctor to call. I don't have the usual symptoms (nausea, vomiting, weight loss). In fact I have no symptoms at all. I take Omeprazole for acid reflux/hiatal hernia, and I take Synthroid for hypothyroidism.

t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.

I went for stress test and echo last week. Dr said stress was great but he saw a very small calcium deposit on lining of heart muscle, not near arteries. He was not overly concerned and said we just need to watch it during next year's test. Regardless, I'm a bit freaked! I've searched but cannot find much on how to prevent (or get rid of, if possible) this calcium build-up. Any info on where it is coming from and what can I do moving forward will be appreciated. Would any of these drugs or combination of these drugs make liver count increase?

A healing leg (just out of cast) prohibits stress testing and the dr said he wouldn’t get the results he wanted anyway. I take aspirin 325, plavix, 80mg lipitor, protonix (just to protect stomach), 10mg zetia, capoten 25mg 3x, imdur 60mg 2x. I did have high blood pressure (150+/80+ p90) but am now unexplainably low 80/60 p 60 while on same meds. My question is – what do I do now?. Could these new stents possibly be failing?

First of all I also tried to control mine naturally along with my high BP for a couple of years. Some people just cannot for one reason or another. The fact that you do not use it for diagnosis of cancer because of its unreliability is the standard answer among doctors I have talked with (except this particular oncologist) .Nothing seems to indicate this is a valuable test! Almost everyone has told me that this test has many false positives and false negatives as well as it creates an environment where additional, invasive and potentially problematic testing might be recommended.

I had hot flashes and night sweats for several years, but none in the past few years, until the night sweats began again about a year ago. I am in good health. I regularly take the following medications; zetia, prilosec, neurotin, fish oil, glucosimine, alieve, melatonin, and a multi-vitamin. What could be producing the pink sweats?
