zetia

Avatar n tn If Zetia affects the absorption of fat in the small intestines, then it WILL most likely affeect the absorption of fal soluble vitamins as well. The side effects from Zetia....muscle weakness, joint pain, upper respiratory infectikns resemble the symptoms of malabsorption of Vitamin A,D, E and K.
Avatar f tn Our doctor switched my 57-year old husband from 20 mg Zocor to 10 mg Lipitor in Dec. 2011 due to elevated LDL particles. He also takes Dutroprol 100/12.5 and 40 mg Benicar for BP, 81 mg Aspirin, and 2000 mg Metformin for Insulin Resistance. He currently weights 260 lbs. at 6' tall, down from 275, and he's continuing to lose weight by following a lower carb diet and exercising. Seven months after starting Lipitor, his GGTP tested high at 87.
Avatar f tn Crestor is a statin (rosuvastatin calcium) only, Vytorin is a statin (Simvastatin) with Zetia (ezetimibe). Statins work by controlling the production of cholesterol in your liver while Zetia works by preventing cholesterol to be absorbed in your digestive system. Of the two, Crestor is the stronger of the two. In addition, recent trials have shown that adding Zetia does not improve the performance of Vytorin over Simvastatin alone.
Avatar n tn With numbers as high as yours, you need some medical interaction as lifestyle changes alone will not get your levels low enough to be healthy. You could try getting some exercise, but I doubt if that alone would do it, even with a healthy diet. It is unfortunate that you are in the small minority of people (approx 1% of users) that have adverse side effects from statin use, but not all statins are the same.
Avatar n tn I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs.
Avatar m tn I think they have concluded that neither do Zetia, except when used with a statin, so it is the statin doing the work. I also think Welchol has been shown to not reduce cardiac events too. not sure. I am on Repatha. Third bi weekly shot. have about 1/3 of the severity of symptoms that I had on statins. headache, muscle aches. may put up with it and may not. just keepin on keepin on for now. Will see if this gets better, worse or stays the same.
Avatar m tn Plus: bonus! If you catch H1N1 flu and are hospitalized, your chances of recovery are doubled if you're on a statin, according to one report.
Avatar n tn It normally will take a week or less for all side effects to go away. Remember, your statin has a half life of about 14 hours which means after 14 hours you have eliminated half of the medication. You will then eliminate half of the remaining have after the next 14 hours and so on and so on.
Avatar f tn After electrograms, changes in cholestrol medication,( lipitor, crestor,), now on zetia my tests keep coming in high.Outside of my lower extremities aches, which I credit to arthritis, I feel fine. Both doctors, arthritis and cardiologist, keep drawing blood with these rates still climbing. After a year of this circle, and being a believer in preventive mediciene, my concern is should I be concerne?
Avatar n tn Having said that, your PVCs may be anxiety related to statin use. There are many cases where side effects from control groups of statin users and placebo users occur at the same rate. This is a classic placebo affect which you may also be experiencing.
Avatar n tn just had fasting cholesteral test - total 226 hdl 63 ldl147 on zetia 10mgs. dr wants to start me on zocor 20 mg. i execise 6 days a week cario 50 mins a day. no family of heart disease unless you consider father had first heart problem at age 87. i do all the right things etc. oatmeal. metamucil, flaxseed, plant sterols. no eggs .butter cheese etc. mother is 81 with no heart problems, what do you think.
Avatar n tn However I have had a hard time controlling my LDL level. I reacted to Lipitor and have had some luck with zetia but now I am using red yeast rice which had kept my levels around 100 when I was clean in my diet, which is hard to do in Mx. I am 56 and in very good shape with a body fat of about 17%. I just had a lipid panel done and here are my numbers: HDL 113, LDL 131, Trg 36. My HDLs have always been very high, but never this high. I don't smoke, my BP runs 115/70 on average.
Avatar f tn Coreg can make a person feel extremely tired and loss of energy. Coreg is the best beta blocker as it blocks more receptors than Tropol XL. There is a medication that is being used in Europe that hopefully will be here in the US soon. It is a combination of Coreg and Tropol XL, I believe. This gives all the benefits of Coreg and reduces the tiredness that people complain about. Our relatives in Europe use the medication and have energy to travel to US and all around the states.
Avatar m tn I took lipitor for twenty years without problems until menopause and the dose was raised from ten to twenty mg. I have gone off and on all statin drugs and recently have been trying generic liptor. I have muscle aches again and headaches this time. Is there anything esle besides statins I can try? I have lost twenty-five pounds and my cholesterol has gone from338 to 228. I think that the lipitor is making me very uncomfortable and that I really can not tolerate it.
21064 tn?1309308733 You did what you thought was in your best interest, and it really is hard to say if things would have been different had you subscribed to taking the statin. One thing that comes to mind - IF you had taken the statin when it was suggested, you may have become complacent with the dietary changes. I've noticed that we can get fooled into a false sense of security when our cholesterol numbers look good.
Avatar m tn While all your numbers are in the good range and if you are not on a statin drug, they are unusually good in my experience. Still you ask "how to improve" and so I gave you one way. There are other benefits to exercise besides cholesterol. If what I said seems at odds with the goal of lowering you total cholesterol, it is a fact that HDL can't be too high. I recall the guideline as HDL should be greater than 30 or a similar number, no upper limit. l.
179856 tn?1333547362 Ask your doctor about Zetia... It's not hamful to the liver like a statin drug. I also recommend another good book by Dr. Agatston called "South Beach Heart Progam." I just read it and am going to have several blood tests done to measure other indicators of heart disease. Shocking for me to read that having normal cholesterol levels doesn't mean your heart is healthy... Trust me after "surviving" tx, I want to make sure I'm as healthy as can be!
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a combination of Simvastatin and Zetia so you are taking the same thing without the Zetia so you should not see any changes in how your body reacts.
Avatar n tn Incidentally, unrelated to GA, I started taking Zetia for cholesterol about 3 years ago and soon thereafter developed a severe chronic cough that nearly drove me crazy (and everyone around me!) I saw several doctors and was given many different medicines.
Avatar n tn Ever since I started taking Zetia and Fenofibrate together as recommended by my DR, I have put on pounds, am more bloated around the belly,a nd have persistent chest pains. I noticed this has occurred ever since I have been on cholesterol lowering meds, but is more noticeable in the past year with the new combination of drugs. I mentioned this to my DR and he said I need the drugs because of my High Cholesterol. What do you think?
Avatar f tn The only FDA approved drug that has had clinical trails is Crestor. It is a statin drug so you have to watch for muscle pain , fatigue with it. If you get any tell you doctor right away. Have they done a full lipid panel on you too? Diet only lowers your cholesterol by about 10%. So, it helps to not eat any extra cholestrol as your liver is what genetically controls the amount of receptors you are born with that break down cholesterol.
Avatar m tn Anyone here know anything about zetia and its affect on the thyroid and or levo absorption? I have read it may affect absorption and the rx monograph says talk tp your doctor if you have thyroid disorders. He knows I am on synthroid, but I am curious how this drug affects it.
950978 tn?1246129559 I was diagnosed in having a fatty liver. I take Zocor 40mg and Zetia 10mg. My ALT level is 120 and AST is 52. My question is should I control how much I drink or not drink at all?
