zetia lipitor

AST on upper end of normal at 40. The doctor said to stop the Lipitor...but stay on the Zetia...... and retest in 1-1/2 weeks which he did this past Sept. 30th. His ALP came down to normal at 91, his ALT stayed the same at 79, his AST stayed relatively the same at 42, but his GGTP went quite high at 240. The doctor's office called and told him to come in next week.

I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs.

t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.

Incidentally, unrelated to GA, I started taking Zetia for cholesterol about 3 years ago and soon thereafter developed a severe chronic cough that nearly drove me crazy (and everyone around me!) I saw several doctors and was given many different medicines.

I took niacin for 20 yrs. I am now 67 and have tried two different popular statins( lipitor and crestor which did lower LDL about 50 pts but also lowered HDL). I could not tolerate either statin because of personality changes ie: anger and irritability all the time and severe cognitive issues with memory, reasoning and being able to focus. After stopping each statin, it has taken me longer to get back to normal mentally.

After electrograms, changes in cholestrol medication,( lipitor, crestor,), now on zetia my tests keep coming in high.Outside of my lower extremities aches, which I credit to arthritis, I feel fine. Both doctors, arthritis and cardiologist, keep drawing blood with these rates still climbing. After a year of this circle, and being a believer in preventive mediciene, my concern is should I be concerne?

Ever since I started taking Zetia and Fenofibrate together as recommended by my DR, I have put on pounds, am more bloated around the belly,a nd have persistent chest pains. I noticed this has occurred ever since I have been on cholesterol lowering meds, but is more noticeable in the past year with the new combination of drugs. I mentioned this to my DR and he said I need the drugs because of my High Cholesterol. What do you think?

However I have had a hard time controlling my LDL level. I reacted to Lipitor and have had some luck with zetia but now I am using red yeast rice which had kept my levels around 100 when I was clean in my diet, which is hard to do in Mx. I am 56 and in very good shape with a body fat of about 17%. I just had a lipid panel done and here are my numbers: HDL 113, LDL 131, Trg 36. My HDLs have always been very high, but never this high. I don't smoke, my BP runs 115/70 on average.

Crestor is a statin (rosuvastatin calcium) only, Vytorin is a statin (Simvastatin) with Zetia (ezetimibe). Statins work by controlling the production of cholesterol in your liver while Zetia works by preventing cholesterol to be absorbed in your digestive system. Of the two, Crestor is the stronger of the two. In addition, recent trials have shown that adding Zetia does not improve the performance of Vytorin over Simvastatin alone.

Yep, Lipitor, Toprol, (actually the generic of Toprol, but I don't know how to spell it) and Zetia. I take an otc niacin supplement. When I started taking all this stuff, I did really bruise easily and bleed a bunch from nicks and such. Never had a nosebleed problem. But, all this lasted only a short time, probably less than a year. Don't have nearly as much trouble with it recently. I'm kind of assuming that it's something that the body gets used to over time.

My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.

I was on Femara for almost 2 years with bad side effects. Switched to tamoxifen for the last 6 months. I also take zetia and lipitor for cholesterol as well as the usual vitamins/minerals (CA,C,D,Selenium, OsteoBiflex, zinc,multi,E). My new oncologist ran a CA27.29 test which showed a reading of 45 which is considered high. Initially, he wanted to run a PET scan, but decided that we could rerun the test again in 3 months to see if the Lipitor or something else was affecting it.

I have tried a lot of meds for this condition, have taken advicor,lipitor,crestor,zetia,tricor,provastatin,niaspan,gemfibronil. I have been on lovaza (omega 3,and 6 ) for the pass five months, but as you can see it has not helped very much. Heart doctor says I have taken the limit. All of these choles meds causes me to ache in my muscles very very bad, and dr. says this could be a serious situation. I need to know from someone please what can I take now ?. Vytorin is a combination, I believe, of Zocor and Zetia. Zocor should help with the cholesterol already there. If not, Lipitor has studies showing that Lipitor at 40mg can help reduce cholesterol on heart valves and in arteries. If it reduces cholesterol there, it may reduce cholesterol on the heart muscle. Cholesterol builds in the arteries, valves and muscle of the heart. In order for cholesterol to stick, there has to be a sticking spot.

I took lipitor for twenty years without problems until menopause and the dose was raised from ten to twenty mg. I have gone off and on all statin drugs and recently have been trying generic liptor. I have muscle aches again and headaches this time. Is there anything esle besides statins I can try? I have lost twenty-five pounds and my cholesterol has gone from338 to 228. I think that the lipitor is making me very uncomfortable and that I really can not tolerate it.

I am presently taking Zetia every other day. I also take Omega 3/6, vitamin A,E. With Zetia interfere with the absorption of the benefits of these supplements and if so what can I do to get the full benefit of Zetia and the supplements, if anything. did tell me there are other reasons for heart disease that they are not fully aware of. I do take Lipitor and Zetia. My cholesterol for the last year and 1/2 has been normal. I take Plavix, Propropanal, Lisinipril/Hcg,Imdur, Lipitor and Zetia. I started taking a multi-vitamin but found it made me ill. There must be an ingredient that I cannot tolerate. I will take Vitamin C as you suggested. I also am an anxious person. I have always been an active person that liked to work out.

A healing leg (just out of cast) prohibits stress testing and the dr said he wouldn’t get the results he wanted anyway. I take aspirin 325, plavix, 80mg lipitor, protonix (just to protect stomach), 10mg zetia, capoten 25mg 3x, imdur 60mg 2x. I did have high blood pressure (150+/80+ p90) but am now unexplainably low 80/60 p 60 while on same meds. My question is – what do I do now?. Could these new stents possibly be failing?

I think over time I will come to view it as the medical community does, my personal safetynet. Now on 7.25mg coreg BID, 10 mg lisinopril QD, lipitor 40mg QD, zetia 5mg QD, Plavix 75mg QD, asprin 325mg QD, Pristique 50mg QD, 100mg co-q10 BID, fish oil 2500mg BID, Niaspan 2000 mg QD bedtime after asprin. HDL RX 2 tabs Bid. Cardilogist wants to gradually bring up coreg to 25mg BID and lisinopril 20mg QD. Cholesterol numbers are 110 total, 44 HDL and 58 LDL, Triglycerides are 86.

t know what the numbers were then but have been on Lipitor and Zetia ever since and have had good numbers except for the HDL. Still working on that. Currently going through Cardiac Rehab again after several caths showed alot of new blockages that can't be stented or bypassed.

Vytorin is a combination of Simvastatin and Zetia so you are taking the same thing without the Zetia so you should not see any changes in how your body reacts.

Can anyone explain to me why I still had a heart attack even while taking the following meds atenenol 50mg bid, HCTZ 25mg daily, zetia 40mg daily, plavix 25mg daily, welchol 625mg bid. Also what is the chance of a second heart attack My Aortic Valve, Tricuspid Valve, and my Mitral Valve are failing because they are stenotic and regurgitative. The Aortic valve is in the worst shape of the three they tell me. I have psoriatic arthritis and ankolosing spondylitis. all joints are involved.

Statins work in the liver and every commercial I have seen advises not to take if you have liver problems. Zetia works in the intestines. Was the Zetia working? If my memory serves me correctly, MikeS is taking statins and he had a TP. He is far more knowledgeable on the subject than I am and hopefully he will see this post and give his input. Zetia is part of a class of drugs called cholesterol absorption inhibitors.

Anyone here know anything about zetia and its affect on the thyroid and or levo absorption? I have read it may affect absorption and the rx monograph says talk tp your doctor if you have thyroid disorders. He knows I am on synthroid, but I am curious how this drug affects it.

I started thinking back, since menopause, I started on several meds, on of which was lipitor. Not one doctor said it could be the lipitor i was taking causing the hives. On my own a week ago, I stopped the lipitor and the lipitor only. For the first time in 5 yrs i have no more hives. Why is there not more articles published or side effects like mine posted for lipitor??? What is your feeling on the hives from Lipitor??

The doctor then asked about my lipitor. She told me that lipitor has a bad side effect that can permanently damage muscles in your body, that can lead to kidney failure. I'm not saying Lipitor is bad. It does have this side effect that can effect a small amount of people. However, I without a doubt, feel as if this is my problem. Lipitor and Trazodone have combined to almost stop me in my tracks. I realize that some people may not like the talking about lipitor in this way.

My husband was recently taken off of Lipitor and has been experiencing daily headaches. He's not a headache person. Is this a common thing when coming off Lipitor? Also, I have read that you should stop it gradually. Is this true?
