Avatar n tn If Zetia affects the absorption of fat in the small intestines, then it WILL most likely affeect the absorption of fal soluble vitamins as well. The side effects from Zetia....muscle weakness, joint pain, upper respiratory infectikns resemble the symptoms of malabsorption of Vitamin A,D, E and K.
Avatar f tn AST on upper end of normal at 40. The doctor said to stop the Lipitor...but stay on the Zetia...... and retest in 1-1/2 weeks which he did this past Sept. 30th. His ALP came down to normal at 91, his ALT stayed the same at 79, his AST stayed relatively the same at 42, but his GGTP went quite high at 240. The doctor's office called and told him to come in next week.
Avatar n tn Then my GP put me on Zetia. Said it would be different. After two months on it, it was worst than the statins. Woke up one morning, couldn’t close my hand. My fingers were so swollen and my both thumb joints would not bend. When I tried to bend them they clicked and was very painful. Never had any problems with my knees, one morning got up both knees were so very painful, when going up and down stairs. Hips started hurting.
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a combination of Simvastatin and Zetia so you are taking the same thing without the Zetia so you should not see any changes in how your body reacts.
Avatar n tn so he looked it up on his computer and sure enough, that was one of the warnings. I stopped the Zetia and the coughing disappeared completely within a couple of weeks. The point here is that medicines, while helping one problem, frequently can cause another. The meds I take for thyroid, reflux, heart disease and high blood pressure are synthroid, metoprolol, lisinopril, plavix, aspirin, lipitor, tricor, folic acid and nexium.
Avatar n tn could be a interaction or allergy to the combination of the two medicaiton From the waring label on Zetia when taken with Fenfibrate: Fenofibrate If cholelithiasis is suspected in a patient receiving ZETIA and fenofibrate, gallbladder studies are indicated and alternative lipid-lowering therapy should be considered [see ADVERSE REACTIONS and the product labeling for fenofibrate]. Avatar m tn Also what is the chance of a second heart attack My Aortic Valve, Tricuspid Valve, and my Mitral Valve are failing because they are stenotic and regurgitative. The Aortic valve is in the worst shape of the three they tell me. I have psoriatic arthritis and ankolosing spondylitis. all joints are involved. I was told this condition contributes to my heart problems. I am also producing blood clots because of heart rates of 150 and higher as well as irregular beats and moderate to severe angina.
Avatar n tn The good news is that the high HDL has a protective effect against plaque build up in your arteries (atherosclerosis) I don't know what your reaction to Lipitor was, but given the facr that you have had blockage of your coronaries in the past you should take a "statin" like lipitor if you can tolerate it. Talk to your doctor to see if this is an option.
Avatar m tn Diovan (Valsartan) is available in different doses (20 mg, 40 mg, etc.), so maybe you could take a lower dose on the day you'll be using Viagra. Or possibly just skip your usual dose that day, then resume the next. However, your Dr. may not agree. I think the best strategy is to ask your Dr. about using these 2 drugs at the same time. I would think if you just took a lower dose on the day you use Viagra might be acceptable...
Avatar m tn Anyone here know anything about zetia and its affect on the thyroid and or levo absorption? I have read it may affect absorption and the rx monograph says talk tp your doctor if you have thyroid disorders. He knows I am on synthroid, but I am curious how this drug affects it.
535822 tn?1443976780 The New York Post today has said that there is a push for the 9/11 Trial to go to Govenor's Island , A lower Manhatton Community board called on fed officails yesterday to move the trail of the terrorists to Govenor's Island and passed a resolution demanding the shift, in a hearing with Downtown Residents who loathe the idea of the threats that would ensue and the lockdown it would involve, this makes sense to me , what say you ....
Avatar n tn My cardiologist wants my ldl down to 70 and my crp below 1 due to renal artery stenosis (over 80% in my left renal) and a 30% blockage in my carotid. We had the same go around with the statins, and the symptoms you describe, in my opinion, are very common - I believe way more than 1% of people taking them have bad reactions judging from family and friends who all tried them and all got off them.
950978 tn?1246129559 I'm 35yrs old male 68" tall 209lb with a body fat% of 24. I was diagnosed in having a fatty liver. I take Zocor 40mg and Zetia 10mg. My ALT level is 120 and AST is 52. My question is should I control how much I drink or not drink at all?
Avatar n tn Londres is certainly correct that there are a few other options available to treat what could be assumed to be familial hypercholesterolaemia, even though your doctor has obviously tried those that would be most obvious. Generally, if you experience muscle weakness as a side effect of Lipitor (atorvastatin), other statins will produce similar effects, so that eliminates the use of Zocor (simvastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin) etc.
Avatar f tn I am a 72 year old active women who has been diagnosed with osteo arthritis who has been sent to my cardiologist because of the my consistant high cpk reading. After electrograms, changes in cholestrol medication,( lipitor, crestor,), now on zetia my tests keep coming in high.Outside of my lower extremities aches, which I credit to arthritis, I feel fine. Both doctors, arthritis and cardiologist, keep drawing blood with these rates still climbing.

Avatar n tn Increased liver enzymes could be due to the medications. Metoprolol is known to cause hepatitis. But the elevation is only marginal, so the pros and cons need to be weighed before discontinuing a medication, discuss this with your doctor. But ensure to follow up with your doctor and monitor liver enzymes to see for changes. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I had hot flashes and night sweats for several years, but none in the past few years, until the night sweats began again about a year ago. I am in good health. I regularly take the following medications; zetia, prilosec, neurotin, fish oil, glucosimine, alieve, melatonin, and a multi-vitamin. What could be producing the pink sweats?
Avatar n tn I have been on provastatin for a couple of years and have noticed very sore stiff muscles (expecially at night). My doctor has changed my medication to Crestor which I was told to first take one a week for a couple of weeks, then (2) pills a week for 6 weeks then he will order another blood test. How long does it take after I go off the first medication before I should be able to tell if it is the medicine causing my muscle soreness?
Avatar f tn Tricor for several years, now is almost normal. I had a bad reaction to the statins- ended up in the hospital with very high liver enzymes. Recently, I have been getting very lightheaded and experiencing pain in my upper arms. My doctor refered me to a cardiologist who performed the heart ultrasound and the holter which came back normal. The stress test however was abnormal- 1 millimeter st segment depression. My cardiologist would like to a heart cathetrization and possibly insert stents.
Avatar m tn The pain became positional (meaning I could excacerbate or relieve the pain by getting in certain positions). It was like this all day and then the next day everything was fine. Heart? Or just maybe nerve pinched? I take metoprolol, pravastatin, nexium, zetia, and one baby aspirin per day.
Avatar n tn The pravastatin could be the reason, however which of his liver enzymes are elevated? Let us know and I may be able to help you out.
