Zetia and stomach problems

Common Questions and Answers about Zetia and stomach problems

zetia

Avatar n tn The Fenofibrate can cause bloating indigestion, stomach pain, and increased liver enzymes or liver problems in addition to other side effects. The Zetia can cause some of these too. Have they tested your liver enzymes yet? If so were they normal? There are other drugs for lowering cholesterol and triglycerides that work as well. You can ask him to have you try Lipitor (generic) and there is now a generic Niaspan. I know because my husband is on it.
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a combination of Simvastatin and Zetia so you are taking the same thing without the Zetia so you should not see any changes in how your body reacts.
Avatar n tn Hips started hurting. Never had any problems with rashes, got one on my elbows and back of neck. I stopped the Zetia and it’s been 3 weeks and I’m just starting to move my hands again. When I informed my Dr. he just looked at me like “oh well”. Getting better each day, not back to normal yet. I used to walk 5 miles a day, since all this started can’t walk like I used to. Going to try getting cholesterol down with diet.
Avatar m tn Statins work in the liver and every commercial I have seen advises not to take if you have liver problems. Zetia works in the intestines. Was the Zetia working? If my memory serves me correctly, MikeS is taking statins and he had a TP. He is far more knowledgeable on the subject than I am and hopefully he will see this post and give his input. Zetia is part of a class of drugs called cholesterol absorption inhibitors.
Avatar m tn Have the $5 copay card on Repatha (wife is on too and has no problems and had less but still too many problems on statins) but we go on medicare in a year and then the $5 copay card turns into $150-$400 per month. Will keep her on, cause her numbers are VERY bad and I will probably go back to Welchol and zetia, for what it is worth.
Avatar n tn With Zetia interfere with the absorption of the benefits of these supplements and if so what can I do to get the full benefit of Zetia and the supplements, if anything. Ar there any other supplements that should be avoided while taking Zetia? Many thanks.
Avatar n tn If it were me I would give pravastatin a chance, but if I had the same side effects and I could not live with them, I would try something like Zetia. You could also add a fenofibrate like Tricor to lower your TGLs as well, very safe and no side effects. This will help lower your overall number but will not impact your LDL which is you main issue. You really need to get that under 130 with no other risk factors.
Avatar m tn Anyone here know anything about zetia and its affect on the thyroid and or levo absorption? I have read it may affect absorption and the rx monograph says talk tp your doctor if you have thyroid disorders. He knows I am on synthroid, but I am curious how this drug affects it.
Avatar f tn AST on upper end of normal at 40. The doctor said to stop the Lipitor...but stay on the Zetia...... and retest in 1-1/2 weeks which he did this past Sept. 30th. His ALP came down to normal at 91, his ALT stayed the same at 79, his AST stayed relatively the same at 42, but his GGTP went quite high at 240. The doctor's office called and told him to come in next week.
950978 tn?1246129559 I was diagnosed in having a fatty liver. I take Zocor 40mg and Zetia 10mg. My ALT level is 120 and AST is 52. My question is should I control how much I drink or not drink at all?
Avatar n tn t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
Avatar n tn I finally went to a specialist in Baltimore who read my history which showed all the meds I was taking and he noticed that I was taking Zetia and told me that he believed Zetia caused chronic coughing in some people; so he looked it up on his computer and sure enough, that was one of the warnings. I stopped the Zetia and the coughing disappeared completely within a couple of weeks. The point here is that medicines, while helping one problem, frequently can cause another.
Avatar f tn did tell me there are other reasons for heart disease that they are not fully aware of. I do take Lipitor and Zetia. My cholesterol for the last year and 1/2 has been normal. I take Plavix, Propropanal, Lisinipril/Hcg,Imdur, Lipitor and Zetia. I started taking a multi-vitamin but found it made me ill. There must be an ingredient that I cannot tolerate. I will take Vitamin C as you suggested. I also am an anxious person. I have always been an active person that liked to work out.
Avatar f tn I am 48 year old female, have had high cholestrol for which I have been on Zetia & Tricor for several years, now is almost normal. I had a bad reaction to the statins- ended up in the hospital with very high liver enzymes. Recently, I have been getting very lightheaded and experiencing pain in my upper arms. My doctor refered me to a cardiologist who performed the heart ultrasound and the holter which came back normal.
745393 tn?1345077196 I have tried a lot of meds for this condition, have taken advicor, lipitor, crestor, zetia, tricor, provastatin, niaspan, gemfibronil. I have been on lovaza (omega 3,and 6 ) for the pass five months, but as you can see it has not helped very much. Heart doctor says I have taken the limit. All of these choles meds causes me to ache in my muscles very very bad, and dr. says this could be a serious situation. I need to know from someone please what can I take now ?. I need very bad to be on some med.
Avatar n tn I take Omeprazole for acid reflux/hiatal hernia, and I take Synthroid for hypothyroidism. I also take Zetia every other day for cholesterol. All of these are working well, but I hope they are not the cause of my Gastroparesis. I don't want to take anymore medications, especially the ones that are given for Gastroparesis. Since I don't have the usual symptoms, do I really need medication for it?
Avatar f tn also be aware that the big decline will be at 48-72 weeks with your hbv mutations and hbeag negative the difference of fibroscan between 4 and 6 is meanless, you have nothing to worry you may try to see if intf response can be increased by ezetimibe (zetia) or smvastatin.
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a statin that lowers LDL and raises HDL. I believe Vytorin is a combination of Zetia and Zocor. I am not sure if the Vytorin will go with the Niaspam so you will need to ask your doctor that.
Avatar f tn Yes I have and I also had the same test and my upper gi was also nagative! Try and relax about it which is easier said than done but being that u have had test and doctors said no problem it may just be anxiety I lost a lot of weight worrying in R weeks I lost over 20 lbs n every test came back negative and had 2nd opinions and they too were negative! Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with severe gastritis caused by H. Pylori this march and the doctor treated me with antibiotics and some antacids. After some time I repeated the test for H. Pylori and it was negative. But the symptoms weren't gone. I had nausea, heartburn, constant fullness and pain in the stomach even after eating little amount of food, loss of the appetite, chronic fatigue (in the past I've also had candida infections).
Avatar f tn I had similar syptoms four years ago and was diagonsed with diverticulitus if its bad I have anti biotics but when I feel it coming on I drink peppermint tea especially morning and night and now and again ginger ale. It helps and sometimes I can stop an attack before it comes too bad. I suggest you go back to your doctor and ask to be tested for diverticulitus of Irritable bowl syndrome.
Avatar m tn If the pain is above your navel, that is where your stomach is, so check out the diet and possibility of ulcers...and no drinking alcohol until you find out....
Avatar f tn I am a 30 year old female, and for quite a long time I get stomach discomforts from time to time. I do suffer with depression for which I have been taking sertraline for the last 6 months (this all started way before this though) The best way to give you my symptoms is to list them with how often they reoccur.
Avatar f tn s burger, but no chicken nuggets, I tend to eat alot of pasta with butter and parm cheese, it has put some weight on me but it is okay on my stomach. Try to eat chicken, fish, some red meat, and go easy on the junk food and soda if you drink it and let me know how you make out.
Avatar n tn For the past year i have been dealing with on and off stomach problems. It started with getting sick in the middle of the night after drinking beer. So sick i thought it was food poisoning. That happen the next time i drank(2drinks) also. So i stopped drinking. What has been happening sence then is out of no where i feel weak for a day. Almost like i am getting the flu and then i have mild pain in my upper abdomen and my stomach feels like it is burning with acid.
Avatar m tn If your symptoms do not go away, then you need to see a Gastroenterologist, he is most likely going to do an Endoscopy to take a look and see if your stomach lining is inflamed or if you have an ulcer, If you do have to see a Gastro, stop taking any Acid Pump Prohibitors ie: Prilosec, Omeprazole etc, these medications supress HPylori and any tests will come up negative, even if the bacteria is present.
Avatar n tn shortly after went outside for walk almost immediately got hot, sweaty, heart rate increased, stomach and body feeling very weird...went back to room but continued to be fevered and stomach upset for two three hours...went to emergency and they did EKG and bloodwork (think they were looking for gallbladder) - all results came back fine...
