Last month my gastro doctor upgraded my omeprazole from 20mg to 40mg - mainly because my insurance company doesn't cover omeprazole 20mg anymore because it is available over the counter. So I have been taking 40mg once a day for about a month. Lately my stomach has been feeling a little queasy with bloated gas. I'm wondering if I'm getting too much omeprazole and may have too little acid.
I was prescribed by the Doctor of omeprazole 20mg to take it once a day, The instruction was not clear on how to take it. As my practice on taking medicines, i take omeprazole 20mg after breakfast. Is it ok to take it after breakfast instead of before breakfast? Thank you.

I have been desperately trying to quit Omeprazole for the last 5 years but have had so much problem with extreme acid release it seems I'll be with it for my life. Of course noone knows yet the result of taking omeprazole for a lifetime, mice had cancer after weeks but human might as well after decades. I can't replace omeprazole with ranitidine, as the latter doesn't seem to work at all. I've been able to lower the dose to about one 20mg in two days but not more.
I've been taking 40mg. of prilosec for 3 weeks. Now taking just 20mg. I want to stop taking it, how do I wean myself off? I've read you get a rebound reaction which is worse than the hearburn. I can't cut the pills in half because they are time release.

I was prescribed 40mg Omeprazole, but bought the 20mg Omeprazole over the counter and have been taking 2 each morning instead. I have been on 20mg Losec (omeprazole) for many years and recently had a stomach scope that showed I had more than 50 (they stop counting after 50) Fundic gland polyps. Research tells me these polyps are the result of extended use of Losec. A biopsy was done of one and showed it was not cancerous and the doctor told me it is not a great cause for concern but that I should have regular scopes. Nevertheless I do worry. Is there an alternative to Losec that will not cause this problem?

i have been put on 20mg omeprazole a day and anti neasea pills but they havent made much of a difference. im going back to my GP on Monday to get a referal to a gastroenologist. I am also going to ask to try a different PPI. Does anyone think that it is possable that a different PPI might help more then the Omeprazole? Also does anyone know if Helicobacter pylori will have shown up on the blood test or if it would require a enoscopy?

When doing some reading it came up that a vitamin b-12 defiency (leading to anemia) can be caused by taking omeprazole long term... I have taken omeprazole 20mg 1x a day for over a year as a preventative measure since I take so much indomethacin (I don't have GERD) So.... could I be vitamin b-12 deficient due to taking omeprazole??
I also read that b-12 deficiencies can cause canker sores... which I have begun to have again (I haven't had one for four years)

Are you taking any other medication? I never discovered which medication was causing my stomach problems, it was a toss up between Aspirin and beta blockers (Bisoprolol).
I was prescribed a medication called Omeprazole which I believe is an acid reduction medicine. It worked real miracles and the problems all vanished. In the last few weeks I have since come off beta blockers after surgery and am still on Aspirin.

I was diagnosed with an ulcer 5 months ago (no endoscopy) and started on PPIs (Omeprazole 20mg). At the beginning, the PPIs helped, but now I feel nausea all the time, now have a burning in my stomach and pain in different areas of the stomach. I feel as though I can't eat anymore.
I had been tested for h.pylori and was negative. I'm starting to feel sceptical about this. I'm 24, have never drank alcohol excessively, had too much NSAIDS, or eaten overly acidic foods.
I'm being placed on 20mg omeprazole to see if some random chest pains and PVCs are related to acid reflux. It doesn't feel like acid reflux to me, but they want to try this.
I've seen online that Hahismoto's patients usually have low or no acid which makes me concerned about taking this. And I read about ensuring you space out when you take omeprazole. I also have low ferritin and was taking iron, which I saw online is contradicted.
I am now on week six so this has dramatically changed my social life and I am now on 20mg of omeprazole. For the first month it started ok. I cut Alcohol, spicy food, all fizzy drinks, orange juice. Now I'm faced with crippling stomach pain, the belching is back and as worse as when I used to drink. I throw up bright yellow acidic sick and have diarohea frequently. I have to wait 2 weeks till my GP appointment. I'm still taking omeprazole, I'm exhausted and I need help.
But I have really bad acid reflux since. My doctor suggested I increase my omeprazole 20mg to twice a day which have done for 5 days now but it's still not getting any better. I wake up in morning with a mouth full if acid. Its horrid. I'm also having to take gaviscon in between (2 hours after) has anyone got any other suggestions? I've been eating small meals, only drinking flavoured water, eating plain foods.
