Zegerid versus prevacid

Common Questions and Answers about Zegerid versus prevacid

prilosec

Avatar n tn Has anyone tried Zegerid? So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?).
Avatar f tn Hi- I have taken Zegerid and found it to be the best of GERD/acid-reflux med's. They all do take some time, but for me it's the best by a good margin, with Kapidex/Prevacid second. My insurance co. doesn't cover Zegerid as well as they cover Prevacid, but my doctor calls it the "Rolls Royce" of stomach meds.
Avatar f tn I have had acid reflux for years now and i have been taking meds for it. My doctor told me I need to try to ween myself off of the medicine (zegerid, because nexium and a million other meds dont woork). I tried doing that and I still keep getting heartburn no matter what. I have gotten the endoscopy several times and the doctors just say that the bottom of my esophagus is not tight, which gives me G.E.R.D. I can't deal with this anymore.
290867 tn?1333569278 Another PPI that worked for us is zegerid. It is a powder suspension that you mix with water. The only difference between zegerid and prevacid solutabs is that zegerid does NOT have to be timed around meals. Whereas the solutabs need to be given on an empty stomach. The prevacid solutabs ARE the ones you can dissolve and mix with water or applesauce. Read read read the marci-kids website. It explains how these medicines work WAY better than I ever could...
Avatar f tn Has anyone had to try more then 1 type of medicine to relieve their stomach pain from too much acid, gerd or whatever reason they are on the meds. I tried prevacid for 5 weeks and it didn't help at all. I am now trying prilosec and have been on it for a week now, It does seem to have helped somewhat but I still do have problems. I know some of my problems could be from not eating a lot. I don't know what to eat so sometimes I will skip eating which probably isn't good for my stomach.
1806721 tn?1554333407 I have never taken Prevacid before. Are these two the same thing? Can I use Prilosec to substitute the Prevacid in the pack? I'm scared of stopping Prilosec as my symptoms always get worse when I tried to wean myself off the drug in the past. I'm also horrified by the idea of combined antibiotics for extended time. I can barely tolerate a single antibiotic agent for 5d in the past. How much probiotics should I take to counteract the side effects of antibiotics? Thank you!
Avatar f tn Nexium is just fine to take on treatment as is the other PPI's. My hepatologist ordered me Nexium during tx and then led me go to Prilosec or prevacid when the became OTC. And sense i'm now SVR there wasn't a problem with them.........
Avatar m tn I have been on them all, but not the ones with Sodium Bicarbonate like Zegerid OTc....I have been looking to find others who are now not responding to meds and what they are doing, I have found that Milk Thistle could possibly be of some help, I'll give it a try...
1746242 tn?1318209702 I get that and to me it feels like a tight, gripping feeling. I don't know if it related to any kind of acid reflux but I do know when I take a Zegerid in the morning it doesn't happen. The confusing thing is I have a pretty bland diet these days so it's not like I am eating super hot & spicy food. And you can be sure nothing high in fat! Zegerid is a proton pump inhibitor so it or any H2 Blocker you have in your medicine cabinet might help.
Avatar n tn , caring for elderly parents, unexpected deaths of brother and brother-in-law, and most recently, learning that my husband has cancer. Prilosec and Prevacid offered temporary relief 10 years ago and since going on Zegerid, I really have felt much better. My pharmacist assures me the the nitro has been in use for these spasms for "quite awhile". I guess the jury will be out for me until my next episode and I can try a tablet.
290867 tn?1333569278 Amy I talked to my doc and she finally put him on the Prevacid Solutabs!!! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYy! Thanks so much for all your help!!!! Whats the best way to give them to him???
6780206 tn?1386121349 also an Gastro. Dr. They put me on heavy doses of Prilosec/ Zegerid/alkaline Diet-it made the problem so bad-I was miserable. Lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks. From 175 to 160- I was buying my alkaline water at a health food store and let it slip about what my problem was-they immediately educTed me on these drugs that are designed for reflux -folks with this reflux-you are all going in the wrong direction. I had the cough/ slash throat clearing 24-7. W/ no relief.
417274 tn?1202937034 The last two that have worked at all for me, Prevacid and Nexium, both stopped working after about 2 years. I have had chronic esophagitis for the past four years but now have an esophageal ulcer too. My question is how long until the Zegerid they switched me to will stop working too? I have also been taking Zantac the entire time as well.
Avatar f tn With my gastritis, I do occassionally get sensations in my chest that seem to mimic heart-related issues but nothing like this. Along with my Zegerid I have also used Zantac 150, tried Prevacid as well as a bunch of over-the-counter antacids. I have even had prescription pain medicide prescribed to me to manage the severe pain I do get with this condition.
Avatar n tn I had my gallbladder out 1028/08 and have had a burning sensation in my stomach and chest/back throat ever since. It moves around, sometimes only in stomach, etc. Had ERCP at same time as surgery for stone stuck in common duct. Dr. did ANOTHER ERCP last week - he was sure there was another partial blockage. There was nothing! Now burning pain is worse than ever - I've been on Prilosec, Prevacid, Zegerid, reglan, sucralfate, etc. either got no relief or got worse. Dr.
290867 tn?1333569278 Hey! I'm glad to hear that he seems to be feeling better! I would be very careful with adding the rice cereal. Babies with MSPI can have a difficult time with rice (especially at such a young age). You might find it causes constipation and more discomfort in the long run. If his REFLUX is being properly treated, it's not a big deal for him to spit up. Yes, it's a mess and not fun to deal with...
Avatar f tn Zantac, Pepcid, compounded Prevacid, Zegerid and Nexium. I would see about trying another medication. Most children seem to do better on one over all the others, it's just depends on the child and finding out what works for them. Also, I agree with Cheryl about the rice. It actually slows down how fast the stomach empties and can cause more issues (gas, constipation) then no rice.
Avatar f tn Then I became sick with bronchitis and needed to take an antibiotic and had to stop taking the Zegerid for about a week. Upon continuing the Zegerid I have had increasing typical acid reflux symptoms, to the point of waking me up at night. So I called my doc and started taking another Zegerid during the day, and taking Gaviscon before bed... this really hasn't helped. I notice that when I sit for a long period I get a build up of gas in my stomach/intestines, resulting in passing gas.
Avatar n tn I understand about the insurance. Our copay and coverage is so crappy that I won't go anywhere unless I just can't take it anymore. The chest pain is concerning. Where does it hurt? I was having pain in the middle of my chest... not where my heart was. Mine was reflux... in that case. I have also had panic attacks. Those did hurt higher, and I seriously thought I was going to have a heart attack or was having them.
Avatar f tn i have been that i might have gerd and was put on zegerid ro see it if works.is that what you would have done?
Avatar n tn and been on several medications; Acifex, Pepsid, Nexium, Zegerid?, Prilosec. He has no pain in his chest or throat with these episodes. They occur within 5 minutes of eating and can last up to 30 minutes. After the gagging/coughing stops, he is extremely tired, to the point of having to take a nap. We are at a loss as to the cause. We have noticed he has a reaction to mainly oils, although some food he can eat if cooked extremely done. This has been occuring since Thanksgiving 2008.
296025 tn?1233256719 WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF PREVACID USE WITH HEP C? SINCE ITS EXPENSIVE IS THERE A GENERIC FORM?
Avatar n tn i take prevacid for my gerd, can this cause atrial fibrillation This discussion is related to acid reflux.
Avatar n tn I'm sorry you're having such tummy troubles. I, too, have quite a lot of gastric issues - always have since I was a little kid. It sounds like you're having a pretty severe case of gastric reflux. It can definitely bring on the symptoms you've described.
