So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me.
I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?).
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
I was given samples of Nexium to try for two weeks. At the end of the trial, I did not notice any improvement. I also had developed new problems of bloating, especially just to the left of my "six-pack". When I sat down, it felt like something was being crushed or pinched in my abdomen also had pain under my solar plexus and across my abdomen just under my rib cage. I had a lot of belching and gas while on Nexium.
I have had acid reflux for years now and i have been taking meds for it. My doctor told me I need to try to ween myself off of the medicine (zegerid, because nexium and a million other meds dont woork). I tried doing that and I still keep getting heartburn no matter what. I have gotten the endoscopy several times and the doctors just say that the bottom of my esophagus is not tight, which gives me G.E.R.D. I can't deal with this anymore.
I went to my GI doctor and told him about it and he just told me to keep taking my Nexium 40mg. I told him that I take it everyday without fail. I showd him were the pain was and he just said, I think its your intestines. I had a endoscopy and he said, I had Barrett's esophagus and a Hiatal hernia and left it at that. I had to talk to a friend who said that I might have IBS.
I have had an endoscopy, barium swallow and motility test ran and the GI specialists all said everything came back normal. They have given me nexium, zegerid, reglan and domperidone to try and help with it but none have helped. I do not get any acid indigestion or feeling of going to choke on my food it just simply comes back up for hours after I eat. I have tried chewing my food completely up b/f swallowing and cutting back on my size of meals but nothing helps.....
and been on several medications; Acifex, Pepsid, Nexium, Zegerid?, Prilosec. He has no pain in his chest or throat with these episodes. They occur within 5 minutes of eating and can last up to 30 minutes. After the gagging/coughing stops, he is extremely tired, to the point of having to take a nap. We are at a loss as to the cause. We have noticed he has a reaction to mainly oils, although some food he can eat if cooked extremely done. This has been occuring since Thanksgiving 2008.
After 2 endoscopies, I was told I had a hiatal hernia. I have been taking Zegerid 40mg on and off for a few years. There are days where I will not have any symptoms and other days where I doubt it is my hernia because it gets really bad. These past few days have been horrible. I take the Zegerid and I am still suffering from pains I am unfamiliar with. I feel as though my breathing has gotten difficult and that I cannot get in enough air.
I started taking Nexium 8 years ago for acid reflux, prescribed by a physician. At first i took 2-3 40mg pills a week. Then gradually progressed to 40mg every day. If i skipped a day my reflux was intolerable. Was diagnosed with hiatal hernia in 2004 by a gastroenterologist. A few years before i started taking nexium i had burning in the esophagus after eating certain foods, drinking orange juice, iced tea.
Then I became sick with bronchitis and needed to take an antibiotic and had to stop taking the Zegerid for about a week. Upon continuing the Zegerid I have had increasing typical acid reflux symptoms, to the point of waking me up at night. So I called my doc and started taking another Zegerid during the day, and taking Gaviscon before bed... this really hasn't helped. I notice that when I sit for a long period I get a build up of gas in my stomach/intestines, resulting in passing gas.
It is different from GERD. I was given Nexium for six months. It helped me get better but my life has never been the same.
i have been that i might have gerd and was put on zegerid ro see it if works.is that what you would have done?
I am still on Nexium, wouldnt that rule our GERD? I dont comsume wheat, could it really be Celiac?
If I took my meds(Nexium or Zegerid) and didnt eat something soon after, pain got worse. I dont know if there is a medical reason to back this up, but its almost like the medicine needed the food, or it would suck up my natural acid or something. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I swear there is something to it. I wasnt eating or drinking very much because I felt so bad. When I started to eat again, it got better. Hope this helps, hope it made sense.
I have been treating my GERD for 3 years with Zegerid. For the first 2 years it was my "miracle drug". About a year ago I began having what I called reflux "attacks" again, usually in the middle of the night. They would last anywhere up to 4 hours, during which all I could do was pace the floor and pray for relief. I averaged one attack a month; finally decided to revisit my gastroenterologist.
Well I told him I thought maybe it was my gallbladder so he sent me for a ultrasound (which came back fine no visabal stones) and in the meantime he gave me Zegerid for the burning. It helped and in three days I was fine so I stopped it. I went back and told him the pain was easing up and that I had stopped the Zegerid so he said ok and if it did come back to take prilosec. Pain did come back so I took it for 12 days and had major reactions to it. So I again stopped.
