Has anyone tried Zegerid? So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me.
I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?).
It's going on with me too. My doc has kept me supplied with samples of Zegerid and Nexium ( to use one or the other, not both) and a prescription for Hyoscyamine for the cramping. It is an ongoing thing with me.
Then I became sick with bronchitis and needed to take an antibiotic and had to stop taking the Zegerid for about a week. Upon continuing the Zegerid I have had increasing typical acid reflux symptoms, to the point of waking me up at night. So I called my doc and started taking another Zegerid during the day, and taking Gaviscon before bed... this really hasn't helped. I notice that when I sit for a long period I get a build up of gas in my stomach/intestines, resulting in passing gas.
I saw my primary in November for heart burn and acid reflux symptoms. I was given samples of Nexium to try for two weeks. At the end of the trial, I did not notice any improvement. I also had developed new problems of bloating, especially just to the left of my "six-pack". When I sat down, it felt like something was being crushed or pinched in my abdomen also had pain under my solar plexus and across my abdomen just under my rib cage.
I have been having stomach problems for about 6 months. It started with severe burning on the right side of my body and around into my back. I went to my Primary DR and she did all the stool and blood tests and all came back fine. I was in so much pain I went to the ER where they did a CT scan with die and everything was said to be normal except ovarian cysts that they asumed had ruptured.
i have been that i might have gerd and was put on zegerid ro see it if works.is that what you would have done?
I worked with an OT that specialized in swallowing problems. I took just two visits. She gave exercises to help me. They will teach you about thickening for your drinks and teach you the chin tuck when drinking. The thing with the chin tuck it is not something you do only when you are having problems. It is something you must teach yourself to do daily. You will learn a lot of things from them that will keep you from aspirating foods into your lungs.
I have had acid reflux for years now and i have been taking meds for it. My doctor told me I need to try to ween myself off of the medicine (zegerid, because nexium and a million other meds dont woork). I tried doing that and I still keep getting heartburn no matter what. I have gotten the endoscopy several times and the doctors just say that the bottom of my esophagus is not tight, which gives me G.E.R.D. I can't deal with this anymore.
I have been treating my GERD for 3 years with Zegerid. For the first 2 years it was my "miracle drug". About a year ago I began having what I called reflux "attacks" again, usually in the middle of the night. They would last anywhere up to 4 hours, during which all I could do was pace the floor and pray for relief. I averaged one attack a month; finally decided to revisit my gastroenterologist.
Sometimes it sloshes around, sometimes it feels like if i burp it will come right back up, but i cant burp, i feel the air, but nothing comes up. I have ibs-c and gerd with gastritis. Im on Zegerid in the am and zantac in the pm. I started a new plan about the ibc-c and im going every other day. It just feels like the tube where it hits my stomach is cold/chilled.
H-Pylori is a nasty bacteria. I had an upper GI done earlier this year and they took several biopsies, found out I had it! Know this, it DOES cause cancer! They put you on a triple antibiotic therapy...14 pills a day for 10 days...ugggh! I still have major stomach probs and had another upper GI about 2 mths ago, more biopsies, but thank God the H-Pylori hadn't come back. I'm on Zegerid now after trying many different drugs. Most times it does help with the major acid/nausea.
i had the same symtoms and i star with zegerid 40mg ones a day and sulcrafate 1 gm four times a day and i list the burning sensation it almost gone i know how you feel.
I was using ranitidine (generic for zantac). I was having horrible stomach pain and dr told me to try zegerid....and holy smokes its awesome!!! Expensive but good stuff $23 for 42 @ target.
I have been on them all, but not the ones with Sodium Bicarbonate like Zegerid OTc....I have been looking to find others who are now not responding to meds and what they are doing, I have found that Milk Thistle could possibly be of some help, I'll give it a try...
If that does not work, try Pepcid, Gaviscon, Prilosec OTC, Omeprazole, Pepto, Zegerid OTC, Equate Acid Relief or Alka-Seltzer. If you do not want to go to the store, try a quick remedy-- baking soda or cold milk. And also, you can use PregEase. It treats morning sickness and heartburn. It is clinically proven a safe choice with natural ingredients, so you do not have to worry about anything harming the little one.

Please discuss with your doctor about trying a combination of medication. Stop Prilosec and see. Keep a stress diary to see if a particular food causes more problems than the other. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
