zegerid or kapidex

Hi- I have taken Zegerid and found it to be the best of GERD/acid-reflux med's. They all do take some time, but for me it's the best by a good margin, with Kapidex/Prevacid second. My insurance co. doesn't cover Zegerid as well as they cover Prevacid, but my doctor calls it the "Rolls Royce" of stomach meds.

ve been taking Prilosec during the past month or so to get my symptoms under control. It works quite well for me. I have never taken Prevacid before. Are these two the same thing? Can I use Prilosec to substitute the Prevacid in the pack? I'm scared of stopping Prilosec as my symptoms always get worse when I tried to wean myself off the drug in the past. I'm also horrified by the idea of combined antibiotics for extended time.

Has anyone tried Zegerid? So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me. I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?).

I was recently diagnosed with acid reflux, after an endoscopy that showed some gastritis and inflammation in my esophagus and a clean ultrasound. I've tried different medicines and the only one I've found so far that lets me live relatively pain-free is Kapidex. I took a free trial of it for 10 days, during which time I helped, but then went back off of it for a week (trying a different, cheaper medicine) before going back on it.

Also, I recently heard about Kapidex. Is this significantly better than the others out there (including the Nexium I am on) or should I stick with the Nexium?

i have been diagnosed with gerd and a hiata hernia i am a black female 5ft2 and 233 pounds i have been on five different prescriptions currently i am on 60 mg of kapidex i have been losing weight and losing my appetite sometimes the kapidex gives me relief sometimes it doesn't what can i do for relief when it doesn't work? and how far can acid reflux travel.

ve never tried Domperidone, but the only meds that helped me were Nexium or Kapidex taken twice daily. I tried prevacid and it was very brief because it just didn't work for me :( Also, I use to take one Kapidex/Nexium PLUS some Amitriplyn, but I knocked the amitriplyn out of my regimen. Either way, it offered more good days then bad.

Then I became sick with bronchitis and needed to take an antibiotic and had to stop taking the Zegerid for about a week. Upon continuing the Zegerid I have had increasing typical acid reflux symptoms, to the point of waking me up at night. So I called my doc and started taking another Zegerid during the day, and taking Gaviscon before bed... this really hasn't helped. I notice that when I sit for a long period I get a build up of gas in my stomach/intestines, resulting in passing gas.

i have been that i might have gerd and was put on zegerid ro see it if works.is that what you would have done?

Hi, have you ever tried Zantac? Take the Zantac 150 (or two 75's) in the morning and before dinner at night, or before bed, whichever you prefer. I have had heartburn forever and I tried the prescription meds, but I feel the Zantac works the best. But 75 is not enough, make sure you take 150 mg. twice a day. Also, you can supplement it with Mylanta or Maalox liquid if it's really bad. I'm not saying this will be a miracle cure, but it's worth a try.

Went to my Dr and she said it was Gastritis and put me on Kapidex 2x a day for 3 days and then once a day thereafter. The next day my lower back has starting hurting. I went in on Tuesday for pain in the back and she prescribed naxoprene and a muscle relaxer. The pain went away once from the pain medicine and now does nothing. I've been having bouts of diarrhea and then constipation also. Today my back pain is excrutiating and the past two days my stools have been dark brown/black.

I do know that the LLMD prescribed me Kapidex and it may one of the reasons I am not having heartburn. Usually these medicines give me bad gastric problems, but so far it's been not great, but not painful either. You may want to ask if you can get Kapidex.

I have been treating my GERD for 3 years with Zegerid. For the first 2 years it was my "miracle drug". About a year ago I began having what I called reflux "attacks" again, usually in the middle of the night. They would last anywhere up to 4 hours, during which all I could do was pace the floor and pray for relief. I averaged one attack a month; finally decided to revisit my gastroenterologist.

Because I have been taking the PPI for 2 1/2 weeks and I have not seen any change in the pain and not sure if I should continue or not. When you said that Kapidex and other meds worked for a few months what do you mean that they worked? How? By stopping pain or other symtoms? Thanks for you time?

Hi, Yes it may be related as feeling tight or feeling lump in the throat is one of the less common symptoms of acid reflux though there are other causes as well.

They found that i have a hiatial hernia as well as a weak les sphincter. Anyways my GI doctor put me on kapidex after followup. I prefer kapidex to protonix and i was doing pretty good until this morning when i had a random bout of nausea. Luckily i had some phenegren left so i took it and got better. I have already bought the special pillow that raises my head while sleeping and i think has really helped me.

Could be some gall bladder pain, dont eat late stick to low fat meals , it could also be a pulled muscle if you have started weight training ..

When I sat down, it felt like something was being crushed or pinched in my abdomen also had pain under my solar plexus and across my abdomen just under my rib cage. I had a lot of belching and gas while on Nexium. I would get a strange sensation that I was hungry a lot in between meals, but when I snacked the sensation was still there. I would eat until I would get a full at meals (it seemed like I got full sooner) , but then I would feel very hungry soon after.

Well I told him I thought maybe it was my gallbladder so he sent me for a ultrasound (which came back fine no visabal stones) and in the meantime he gave me Zegerid for the burning. It helped and in three days I was fine so I stopped it. I went back and told him the pain was easing up and that I had stopped the Zegerid so he said ok and if it did come back to take prilosec. Pain did come back so I took it for 12 days and had major reactions to it. So I again stopped.

I've been having reoccurent upper gastric pain for 11 months now. These attacks come on at different times and I usually end up at the ER. There is really no pattern to them, foods, stress ect. I feel like throwing up, then the pain sets in and I start to sweat and can't breathe and then start to vomit.

Had an upper gi where I swallowed the barium. Report came back normal: No ulcers or anything unusual seen. Problem is I am still having the symptoms of burning in chest. Now I have noticed the pain and burning is in my upper center back also. Have an odd feeling of something in my throat too that makes me cough periodically. Stopped taking ppi's because they were not working. What can I do now? I am so sick of this constant feeling in my chest and back.

I have been on that but it didn't work that great after a while. Kapidex or previcid works. Liquid carafete helps to.

H-Pylori is a nasty bacteria. I had an upper GI done earlier this year and they took several biopsies, found out I had it! Know this, it DOES cause cancer! They put you on a triple antibiotic therapy...14 pills a day for 10 days...ugggh! I still have major stomach probs and had another upper GI about 2 mths ago, more biopsies, but thank God the H-Pylori hadn't come back. I'm on Zegerid now after trying many different drugs. Most times it does help with the major acid/nausea.
