(the perscription for that is Axid 300mg)....I have been on them all, but not the ones with Sodium Bicarbonate like Zegerid OTc....I have been looking to find others who are now not responding to meds and what they are doing, I have found that Milk Thistle could possibly be of some help, I'll give it a try...
Mix 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, not baking powder) in an 8 ounce glass and drink it.
If sufficient quantities of acid are present in the stomach, bicarbonate of soda is converted into gas, producing significant bloating and belching within 5 or 10 minutes of drinking the mix. Little or no belching is suspicious for low stomach acid.
Digestive enzyme supplements are good for high or low acid production (low acid is by far more common).

I have been told of the severe side-effects of using Sodium Bicarbonate (~pH 8) directly on the scalp in a mix of just plan water (H2O) in place of using commercially available shampoo to include: eczema, skin disease and yeasts.

There is an easy home test you can do to roughly determine high or low stomach acid called the baking soda test (sodium bicarbonate, not baking powder). The Heidelberg Capsule Test is the scientific version of the baking soda test.

If it's gas I find Sodium bicarbonate very useful. I've felt like i was having a heart attack before from bad acid indigestion and gas and Sodium bicarbonate was the only thing that helped. It may or may not help you depending on what the problem actually is but it's an easy thing to try and see. I have to have a prescription for it so you may need to ask your doctor for one.

If its too bad it could be a little painful but other then that you should call the pediatrician and they will prescribe Nystatin oral supplement and the cream for if it gets too bad and he gets a rash but if its not too bad just mix a teaspoon of bicarbonate sodium in a cup of water and after every feeding clean his mouth and put some on your breast if you breastfeed that way the infection wont be back and foward from you and the baby

baking soda is the same as sodium bicarbonate. Baking powder is baking soda with a couple additives (corn starch and cream of tartar).
As far as why you would want to do this, baking soda can be used as an antacid. I'm unsure of why you would want to do it so many times a day (that equates in my mind like taking tums 2-3 times a day). Also you do need to be careful because stomach acid is supposed to be there and is supposed to be acidic.
