Zegerid for infant reflux

Common Questions and Answers about Zegerid for infant reflux

prilosec

Avatar f tn Hi- I have taken Zegerid and found it to be the best of GERD/acid-reflux med's. They all do take some time, but for me it's the best by a good margin, with Kapidex/Prevacid second. My insurance co. doesn't cover Zegerid as well as they cover Prevacid, but my doctor calls it the "Rolls Royce" of stomach meds.
Avatar f tn Then I became sick with bronchitis and needed to take an antibiotic and had to stop taking the Zegerid for about a week. Upon continuing the Zegerid I have had increasing typical acid reflux symptoms, to the point of waking me up at night. So I called my doc and started taking another Zegerid during the day, and taking Gaviscon before bed... this really hasn't helped. I notice that when I sit for a long period I get a build up of gas in my stomach/intestines, resulting in passing gas.
Avatar m tn How do we prevent acid reflux which occur maybe once Or twice a month especially after eating the wroong food .
Avatar f tn I am way too young to have this problem. I have had acid reflux for years now and i have been taking meds for it. My doctor told me I need to try to ween myself off of the medicine (zegerid, because nexium and a million other meds dont woork). I tried doing that and I still keep getting heartburn no matter what. I have gotten the endoscopy several times and the doctors just say that the bottom of my esophagus is not tight, which gives me G.E.R.D. I can't deal with this anymore.
1746242 tn?1318209702 t close well, food, liquid, and stomach acid can leak back into the esophagus. This is called reflux or gastroesophageal reflux. Reflux may cause symptoms, or it can even damage the esophagus.
Avatar n tn I saw my primary in November for heart burn and acid reflux symptoms. I was given samples of Nexium to try for two weeks. At the end of the trial, I did not notice any improvement. I also had developed new problems of bloating, especially just to the left of my "six-pack". When I sat down, it felt like something was being crushed or pinched in my abdomen also had pain under my solar plexus and across my abdomen just under my rib cage.
Avatar f tn Well I told him I thought maybe it was my gallbladder so he sent me for a ultrasound (which came back fine no visabal stones) and in the meantime he gave me Zegerid for the burning. It helped and in three days I was fine so I stopped it. I went back and told him the pain was easing up and that I had stopped the Zegerid so he said ok and if it did come back to take prilosec. Pain did come back so I took it for 12 days and had major reactions to it. So I again stopped.
Avatar f tn BUT I have seen many many thru the years post that they have issues that disappear with the right med. There are other meds out there (not sure if they are all FDA approved for infant usage, though so you must discuss with your Dr but when the risks outweight the benefits they will oftentimes use the med) .. Zantac and other supressors are a thought .. they can be given up to 3X a day with Mylanta inbetween if your Dr. agrees .. A Pedi GI may be the way to go at this point ..
1364792 tn?1278051187 Omeprazole is an H2 blocker. It is helpful, but not the big guns for acid reflux that could be harmful. Omeprazole is available OTC. Some H2 blockers are also used as supplement antihistamines for people who have a hard time controlling allergies. OH, not acid reflux presents with the typical heart burn symptoms. Some people reflux higher and it does burn the esophagus in that way. Feel better.
447553 tn?1205288774 I would look into pyloric stenosis for your baby. My friends son ended up having that after thinking he had reflux, he had a minor surgery & is happy & healty now. Let me know how it goes.
Avatar f tn I was using ranitidine (generic for zantac). I was having horrible stomach pain and dr told me to try zegerid....and holy smokes its awesome!!! Expensive but good stuff $23 for 42 @ target.
Avatar n tn I have been treating my GERD for 3 years with Zegerid. For the first 2 years it was my "miracle drug". About a year ago I began having what I called reflux "attacks" again, usually in the middle of the night. They would last anywhere up to 4 hours, during which all I could do was pace the floor and pray for relief. I averaged one attack a month; finally decided to revisit my gastroenterologist.
394931 tn?1208115595 i took nexium and then zegerid. they helped me for acid reflux but i just had the nissen surgery 2 weeks ago so i dont take anything anymore...good luck..
Avatar m tn what works for one person may not work for another, in my case what works for me 1 week my not work the next, my body gets used to the product- so my Dr. tells me. OTC products can be doubled if the strenght on the box does not work---Try Pepsid AC they have a 10 & 20 mg....(the perscription for that is Axid 300mg)....I have been on them all, but not the ones with Sodium Bicarbonate like Zegerid OTc....
Avatar f tn Because of my acid reflux problem( coughing on and off ) my family dr has prescribed me Nexium ( PPI Therapy). My nurse said its O.K to use it during the Tx. But I want to hear from the fellow members that whether this medication is safe and does not interfere the effectiveness of Pegasys. Hopefully some members will advice me on this issue.
Avatar n tn For many years, GER [Gastroesophageal reflux] during infancy and childhood was thought to be a consequence of absent or diminished LES tone [lower esophageal sphincter, which is sometimes also referred to as the Cardiac Sphincter due to its proximity to the heart]. However, studies have shown that baseline LES pressures are normal in pediatric patients, even in preterm infants.
1500525 tn?1458529998 I have not taken any medication (Zegerid) for some time, I have some other ailments so I thought that those meds might have helped, but now I don't think they have. That is why I was wondering if there is anything I can do on my own for this. I have done A LOT of research on this & I agree with you, it is nasty stuff & scary having this and knowing what the outcome can be and not doing anything about it, I do not understand why the Dr.
Avatar f tn Hey there! I was wondering about a symptom I've been having a while... I don't think it's related to my reflux, but I want to check. I have problems swallowing. Not getting it down, but getting it past the bottom of my esophagus (judging by the feeling of where it's stuck). I have pretty severe reflux, with erythema (don't have the paper in front of me) that was biopsied for Barrett's (negative).
Avatar n tn What can be done for a preemie infant with reflux and raspy breathing ?
290867 tn?1333569278 Linzola - Have they tried medicine for Acid Reflux??? My youngest (16 months) would cry a lot and would tense up her body and rear backwards. My ped gave her Zantac and that fixed the problem. My ped did that without me having to go to a GI specialist. The testing that they do (from what I have heard) is very invasive and I don't see the harm in your doc at least trying it. It just sounds so much like Acid Reflux to me.
Avatar f tn I've been having issues for months. I'm a 37 year old female who was in generally good health until about 7 months ago. I ended up in the ER because I was having heart palpitations. The ER couldn't find anything wrong, and after 2 different cardiologists, two holter monitors, many EKGs and an Echocardiogram, it was determined that I have "harmless" skipped beats (PVCs or PACs).
Avatar f tn if i may chime in... did you nurse and pump or only pump? It is possible your supply tanked simply because some people don't respond well to pumps, or you didn't have a good pump (hospital grade), or you didn't pump frequently enough (15 minutes every 2 hours). Like Peek said, it could've been totally out of your hands. I know someone who tried every pump under the sun but couldn't get a drop. When her son finally learned to nurse months later, she had plenty to nourish him.
Avatar m tn I was on Zegerid and probiotics(still taking them) for 3 months prior to September and still had the swollen tonsils. I cannot swallow properly, I snore so loud I wake myself up along with the household, I am always gagging and choking on my own saliva, constant allergies and post nasal drip...What does this have to do with GERD? I have no heartburn and no irregular amount of erosions in my esophagus!
913937 tn?1243013191 I have had 3 gastric emptying tests, 2 endoscopies and recently have been put on medication. Zegerid for GERD is a miracle drug for me for acid reflux. However, it doesn't do anything for the vomitting. I have tried reglan, erythromyacin, and just received a RX for Domperidon yesterday. Because the reglan didn't work, I am not too thrilled about the possibility of the domperidon working. I have lost 21 pounds in the last 9 weeks and I am at my wits end.

Avatar n tn 5 month old son has numerous little problems, when he was born everything seemed fine, after a few months it was found that he had right tortacullus( he gets physio) stridor due to laryngomalacia, severe reflux( he is on prevacid due to numerous choking episodes and low weight) He also is on his 3rd ekg since the left ventricle reading is always high.
