Has anyone tried Zegerid? So far I have tried Prevacid, Aciphex, Prilosec,Protonix, and Nexium. Aciphex gave me bad side effects and Nexium made my reflux symptoms worse. Prilosec did absolutely nothing for me.
I was successfully treated for H. Pylori in Nov 07. Since then I have been suffering from Water Brash and now heartburn. I don't know where to turn. My GI now wants me to take Zegerid(isn't this med just like Prilosec with sodium?).
Then I became sick with bronchitis and needed to take an antibiotic and had to stop taking the Zegerid for about a week. Upon continuing the Zegerid I have had increasing typical acid reflux symptoms, to the point of waking me up at night. So I called my doc and started taking another Zegerid during the day, and taking Gaviscon before bed... this really hasn't helped. I notice that when I sit for a long period I get a build up of gas in my stomach/intestines, resulting in passing gas.

I have had acid reflux for years now and i have been taking meds for it. My doctor told me I need to try to ween myself off of the medicine (zegerid, because nexium and a million other meds dont woork). I tried doing that and I still keep getting heartburn no matter what. I have gotten the endoscopy several times and the doctors just say that the bottom of my esophagus is not tight, which gives me G.E.R.D. I can't deal with this anymore.
I have been treating my GERD for 3 years with Zegerid. For the first 2 years it was my "miracle drug". About a year ago I began having what I called reflux "attacks" again, usually in the middle of the night. They would last anywhere up to 4 hours, during which all I could do was pace the floor and pray for relief. I averaged one attack a month; finally decided to revisit my gastroenterologist.
Well I told him I thought maybe it was my gallbladder so he sent me for a ultrasound (which came back fine no visabal stones) and in the meantime he gave me Zegerid for the burning. It helped and in three days I was fine so I stopped it. I went back and told him the pain was easing up and that I had stopped the Zegerid so he said ok and if it did come back to take prilosec. Pain did come back so I took it for 12 days and had major reactions to it. So I again stopped.
I saw a GI specialist who switched me off Nexium and put me on Zegerid. Abdominal x-rays and H. Pylori breath tests were negative. Endoscopy showed irritation, but no major damage. There was also a small amount of bile in my stomach. Biopsies were negative and no sign of ulcers. Blood tests were normal.
Initially I had a rough start with the Zegerid where I couldn't even eat.
H-Pylori is a nasty bacteria. I had an upper GI done earlier this year and they took several biopsies, found out I had it! Know this, it DOES cause cancer! They put you on a triple antibiotic therapy...14 pills a day for 10 days...ugggh! I still have major stomach probs and had another upper GI about 2 mths ago, more biopsies, but thank God the H-Pylori hadn't come back. I'm on Zegerid now after trying many different drugs. Most times it does help with the major acid/nausea.
i had the same symtoms and i star with zegerid 40mg ones a day and sulcrafate 1 gm four times a day and i list the burning sensation it almost gone i know how you feel.
I was using ranitidine (generic for zantac). I was having horrible stomach pain and dr told me to try zegerid....and holy smokes its awesome!!! Expensive but good stuff $23 for 42 @ target.
Now two Zegerid daily. I had a cervical MRI, but only on 1.5T, that came back normal. If I ever hear anything, I'll ask about thoracic MRI on 3T. Sounds like there may not be a 3T machine nearby, though.
I had a L-4/L5 fusion about six years ago which made getting the lp interesting. The doctor was so good--it was with floroscopy (sp?). I laid on my stomach with a pillow underneath. He did say the fusion can distort where the puncture needs to go...
I have been on them all, but not the ones with Sodium Bicarbonate like Zegerid OTc....I have been looking to find others who are now not responding to meds and what they are doing, I have found that Milk Thistle could possibly be of some help, I'll give it a try...
If that does not work, try Pepcid, Gaviscon, Prilosec OTC, Omeprazole, Pepto, Zegerid OTC, Equate Acid Relief or Alka-Seltzer. If you do not want to go to the store, try a quick remedy-- baking soda or cold milk. And also, you can use PregEase. It treats morning sickness and heartburn. It is clinically proven a safe choice with natural ingredients, so you do not have to worry about anything harming the little one.
i have taken nexium, zegerid, plus carafate liquid. You do not fool around acid problems, because if it goes untreated you can get Barretts Esophagus, it can become cancer. It is a slow growing cancer. But you do not need cancer at any time. And make sure that you take your medicine.
My doc has kept me supplied with samples of Zegerid and Nexium ( to use one or the other, not both) and a prescription for Hyoscyamine for the cramping. It is an ongoing thing with me.
Ok ladies hw do i go about ad matchin prices wit two stores. Im starting my Christmas shopping early due to i will b on maternity leave. Its a item that's 199 at Wal-Mart bt 299 at Toys r us. Do i go in toys r us n shw dem so dey cn beat the price.
Yeah, I'm just a bit scared because throughout my life, I've had many different ADs even SNRIs too and even tho I'm only 28 yrs old, I found out my heart had a serious condition 9 months ago that made me change the AD I was on at the time (Effexor). I'm better now heart wise but I'm just scared now as ADs are well known to not be gd for the heart. But anyway thanks for your response, i appreciate it.
i started paxel 2 months before tx....couldn't handle them...they knocked me out...changed to zoloft...they make me sleepy too but i'm glad i take them...i never took an ad before ..the tx can make you uptight and snappy...narrow minded...i wanted to take prozac but while on tx they say paxel or zoloft...keep a close eye on your blood work...for some of us the sx can get intense...you might be getting anemic....you may need rescue drugs soon...maybe not...i would start an ad right away..
