Zantac vs tagamet

Common Questions and Answers about Zantac vs tagamet

zantac

1448936 tn?1363206346 I took Tagamet which is over the counter and had excellent results. If this doesn't help, I would seek a second opinion from another gastro doc. There's obviously something making your stomach burn, they can't just throw up their hands and let you suffer! (although many do). Make sure you're not taking pain medication as well, some can really irritate the stomach and even eat a hole in it, I experienced this with Advil after 10 days.
Avatar f tn Some people take as much as 80mgs of nexium a day for severe cases. Others as little as 20mgs in a.m. with mylanta throughout the day and zantac or tagamet at night. It all differs with which physician each person has. I'm not sure what Lamisil is. The soreness if from the acid which causes inflammation. Hope this helps.
1088529 tn?1256844030 t give me a headache like omeprazole did, or seem to make me kind of dizzy/light headed like it seemed tagamet did. If you feel zantac is not enough for the acid problem, you can take tums or liquid anti-acid, but you need to space it apart- like wait at least a couple hours after taking your zantac to do it. Also, you should let your doctor know if the zantac is not sufficiently treating your symptoms.
Avatar f tn t seem to really have an appetite, he eats alittle and does drink water. I am now giving him Tagamet liquid everyday and that has stopped for the most part his vommiting, but now he has a constant drooling and it is alot of drooling. I have to wipe it up everywhere. he is at about 4.3 lbs down from 6.1 lbs in june. My vet seems to think he might have a birth defect inside somewhere. Emmitt also seems to snore loudly even when not asleep.
Avatar f tn If you have no money to go to doc right now and need immediate relief, I would recommend you try pepto bismol which coats the lining of your stomach or Tagamet or Zantac. Those are a few over the counter meds you could try. Also your pharmacist can assist you in your selection if you tell them your symptoms. If your symptoms continue, I would strongly recommend you get to the doc as it you could be making a bad situation much worse! Don't risk your health! :o) Good luck!
Avatar f tn I have also noticed sometimes when I bend over it feels worse. Has anyone else ever experienced this? My doctor wants me to start taking Zantac everyday which I am worried about due to possible long term effects of this medicine. I have myself convinced that I have some kind of cancer in my throat or neck but my doctor assures me if that was the case it would have gotten much worse by now since I have been feeling this on and off for at least 2-3 years.
3150328 tn?1349627121 I first used carafate about 30yrs ago sort of before all of the newer drugs came on the scene, then it was Tagamet Zantac Pepcid and all down the line one good thing about carafate is it is not systemic with mostly minor side effects.
Avatar n tn can you take imodium and prilosec OTC or zantac to get rid of opiate withdrawals?
Avatar n tn Hello Gavali and welcome to MedHelp. It sound like things are pretty well. A comprehensive metabolic panel and complete blood count are all the lab testing required to monitor changes in liver function. Have these panels ran twice annually. A healthy diet and maintain a healthy weight will also prevent liver disease. It sounds like you are having some digestive disorders such as GERD. GERD is caused by frequent acid reflux — the backup of stomach acid or bile into the esophagus.
Avatar n tn I have had gastro problems for 30+ years. I am pre tagamet. So I have been through several meds. Nexium does work for me (40mg) I started taking it when it came on the market. I am scoped yearly. My doctor just removed 25 polyps from my stomach and 3 from my intestins. I had more polpys in my stomach which will be removed later. Could nexium be partly the cause for so many polyps? This discussion is related to How long on Nexium?.
975357 tn?1252704723 ) but I stupidly continued to take my pepcid (famotidine) and forgot that this is also in the class of antihistamines known as h2 blockers (includes tagamet, pepcid, zantac etc.) Since the receptionist didn't specify and I didn't use by brain lol, is this going to affect my test results in any way, and is it still worth going? my appointment is at 9am its 6am now and I dont want to drive 40 miles if its going to be pointless. someone please help...pref. SOON!
338416 tn?1420045702 Since Copaxone is a copolymer, histamine H1-receptor antagonist may not work well. The histamine H2-receptor antagonists, like cimetidine (Tagamet) or ranitidine (Zantac) and famotidine (Pepcid) might actually work better. I know, it sounds goofy, but the histamine response causes the acid pumps in the stomach to turn on. The histamine H2-receptor antagonists are becoming pretty common in the treatment of allergic reactions not controlled by typical antihistamines.
Avatar f tn My sympathy to your sister! I had a similar experience 25 years ago that was finally diagnosed as a hiatal hernia/duedonuem ulcer. And, the trigger was not bacteria but an allergy to milk protein (casein/casinate). (See the no-dairy web page for avoiding these widely used food additatives. They even "wash" tuna to make it "whiter" with milk protein.) I went from 60 pills (Zantac) a month to zero once I cut out the milk protein.
Avatar m tn I’m traveling for the next couple week and plan on seeing my doctor when I get back. Valium seems to make me feel better… Acid reducers like Zantac don’t help all that much. The tightness in my throat also seems to get worse when I’m out in cold weather. I know this is an internet diagnosis…. But I’m wondering does this sound like Reflux… Anxiety…. Could this be the start of some condition like COPD… or Asthma?
Avatar f tn s office. There are many other reflux brands, some strong. Pepcid, zantac, tagamet are all old basic meds. I guess these are good to start with. Ask your doctor. They are also OTC, over the counter. As far as diet goes, it can be hit and miss until you find the really acid triggering food, it varies from person to person. Typical are spicey foods, hot peppers, chilli, etc. then dairy, cheese, milk, etc. then alcohol, beer, hard stuff, etc.
Avatar n tn I take my Omeprazole like a good boy daily around 7am before breakfast, but by midmorning the burning has reared its ugly head and Gaviscon and a Tagamet to temper the burning. I have also begun taking another 40mg Omeprazole at night to deal with any nighttime discomfort. I realize I am playing doctor by upping and adding to my current regimen but that is all know.
Avatar n tn I started taking Zantac 150 and it seemed okay but I started have occasional nausea and sharp pains in the stomach area. My Internal Medicine doctor advised the ulcer is being aggravated by the acid which is causing nausea and pain, the Zantac was not strong enough. She prescribed Protonix 40mg twice a day, I have been on that and feel great; no fatigue, no nausea, no pain!
539904 tn?1217442643 And yes, when I was finally diagnosed, I know mine was due to extreme stress at the time. I think I took Zantac, Pepcid, Tagamet....tried a few but really, it had to go away on its own for me. So, I tried deep breathing exercises and began a small walking routine all for relaxation and for me, it went away in a few months....yes, months....long time. Every once in a while still I can feel it coming on so I abate it right away with deep breaths and diverging my mind away from it.
Avatar f tn Drug treatment is typically in the form of antihistamines such as loratadine (Claritin), hydroxyzine, cetirizine. For some people, H2-receptor antagonists such as cimetidine (Tagamet) and ranitidine (Zantac) can also help control symptoms. Sunscreen and sunblock are necessary to help minimize the outbreak. There is no cure, only treatment available when it happens. ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar m tn Some drugs and medications have been associated with restless leg syndrome including caffeine, alcohol, H2-histamine blockers (such as Zantac and Tagamet), and certain antidepressants (such as Elavil). Occasionally, restless legs run in families. Recent studies have shown that restless leg syndrome appears to become more common with age". Hope this helps, and thanks for sharing...
Avatar m tn Hi again ireneo! I have never had an esophageal spasm but I do know by my own experiences (both as a nurse and a patient) that SOB occurs with angina and stays until the the pain from the tightened heart muscle ( blockage or spasms) is relieved by stopping an exertion or taking a vasodiolator like nitro. Cheetoh, take a zantac if you think it's from the digestive track. Zantac will not stop heart angina pain, but nitro COULD relieve the digestive discomfort.
Avatar m tn It could be described as a slow constant leakage that increases as I get more nervous. I would eventually be diagnosed with an ulcer. I was prescribed Tagamet and after about 6 weeks the problem went away. Once they took me off Tagamet the trouble returned. That was back in 83 and it has altered my entire existence. Help! does anyone have any suggestions to resolve this issue.
