zantac vs prilosec otc

My RE and my OB both said I could take Zantac 150 - - didn't want me to take Pepto Bismol (b/c it has aspirin in it) or Prilosec OTC (it's a category C).

I was told do NOT take Prilosec With the new NS5A and NS5B drugs. it's been proven it has an adverse effect. I'm on the Sofosbuvir/5885 and Prilosec is on the Do Not take list. I usually take Zantac and asked if this was ok, and was told during my treatment Zantac was OK. I didn't question the difference but said OK no Prilosec. Anyone on the new Sofosbuvir told this same thing?

I am freaking out here, I told my OB at my 12 week appointment that I am getting horrible heartburn and that nothing helps. He gave me a script to prilosec OTC and told me it was safe to take every day. I have not been taking it everyday but I have taken it a couple times a week since then. Well, I just looked online and it is a category C drug and is not to be used during pregnancy especially not before 20 weeks. I am only 17 weeks and have been taking it since week 12!

Hi again, i just wanted to let you know that before I joined this Forum I had left a message on the FDA's question line. They had not gotten back to me so I thought I'd never hear back. Today, however, I did hear back from them. I asked them about whether the meds. and supplements that I've been taking, and especially Verapamil, Zantac and Prilosec OTC could possibly cause an elevation in liver enzymes.

Take some OTC antacid like Mylanta. You can also take zantac(ranitidine)or prilosec (omeprazole).These will help. Also keep your fluid electrolyte balance optimum by drinking lots of fluids. If the symptoms worsen then it may be due to H.Pylori infection. You need antibiotics in that case after prescription from a physician. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

The doctor wound up having me take Prilosec OTC. It was the only thing that worked for me. My daughter suffered from horrible acid reflux from birth until she outgrew it at 18 months. I know genetics play a huge role in acid reflux...but I always wondered if having to use Prilosec during pregnancy caused part of my daughter's reflux? I am only 12 weeks and already have heartburn...I'm suffering but scared to even use Tums!

You can try OTC Zantac but that didn't do much for me either...I'm on Prilosec and it has taken away all of my heartburn...but it is a class C medication so you will need to talk to your doctor first...

You can take Zantac or or Prilosec OTC. They work. I use Prilosec OTC. That will help you.

I just asked my OB about this the other day and he told me to take Prilosec OTC every night before I go to bed, and it's safe and way better than tums could ever do

Milk gives me worse heat burn!! Don't drink milk, take prilosec otc. It's expensive but so worth it. You only take it once a day and the heart burn never breaks through it. I would seriously be crying without it. Before i was pregnant, i had heart burn but now it's so bad it also was keeping me up And really hurt so bad it would make be cry.

Problem is my prescription insurance has run out so I now have to purchase Zantac or Prilosec OTC. Anyway...I started with Prilosec (omeprozole) and all was well until day 6 when I developed the worst, constant, headache, skin rash on my arm and blurry vision.

I was taking zantac 150 2x a day and prilosec otc 1x a day along with tums. Finally at 16 weeks my ob gave me the prescription prilosec and heartburn is so much better.

If so are H2 meds like Pepcid and Zantac ok, or are PPI meds like Prilosec and Prevacid better? Thanks and have a great day!

My doctor told me I can take Prilosec OTC everyday for preventative measures. My acid reflux was sooo terrible it would keep me up at night and I would just eat tums. I'm almost 39 weeks and it has subsided these last 2-3 weeks on it's own, thank goodness.

I take Prilosec OTC everyday. I been taken it since my first trimester. It helps and safe.

You can take otc zantac, tums, maalox, mylanta and pepcid. If it's really bad and none of those help you can see if your doctor is ok with something like prevacid or prilosec.

Is it okay to take Prilosec? They said Zantac was okay, but not to take Prevacid. I bought Prilosec and want your opinions on it.

Prilosec OTC was the only med that really controls my heartburn. My OB told me not to take it. I was told to take tums / zantac / gaviscon... which don't work the same as Prilosec. Good Luck.

maybe a little weight loss. Omeprazole (Prilosec or Zegerid) causes me all kinds of problems. Headache, chest pain, red/irritated eyes, all kinds of body aches, constipation and extreme thrist. Problem is...protonix is by script only and VERY EXPENSIVE! Someone talk to me about this. Has anyone else experienced these problems with Omeprazole?

t take it often only when all else fails. Mine got so bad I asked my doc and he prescribed me a medicine that is like prilosec otc. It is a heaven sent med.

You can experiment with OTC-versions of prescriptioned medications to reduce stomach acid. Acid-reducer medications such as Prilosec, Nexium, Zantac, Prevacid, and others are available at any pharmacy. I have GERT, and I had an ulcer. I take one Prilosec, 20-mg, a day with no pain. Prilosec OTC, is 10-mg, is a good start. Take two if you later think you need it.. If I take two Prilosec, 20-mg, I get dry-mouth, so I only need one for 24 hours.

I too have GERD, and I take the same medication as you. I have never had any problem with Prilosec, 20-mg. The OTC Prilosec is 10-mg, and I take two capsules a day if my prescription at the VA is late. I have never noticed my bowel movement smells any worst than it normally does. There is a test you can do to judge whether Prilosec is affecting your bowels. There are about 4 or 5 competitors to Prilosec. Examples are Zantac, Prevacid, 15-mg; Pepcid 20-mg.
