Zantac or prevacid for infants

Common Questions and Answers about Zantac or prevacid for infants

zantac

1448936 tn?1363206346 I've raised my head at night. I haven't tried prevacid or prilosec. My doc prescribed me zantac in august so I've continued using it. I may try one of those to see if I get any relief because the zantac really isn't working.

Avatar m tn She was prescribed Prevacid three weeks ago as she was still irritable after 4-6 weeks of Zantac. After she started Prevacid she was less irritable but developed side-effects including giving up napping during the day and green, mucus-like foul smelling stool (started this week). Oh yeah, she also has a milk protein based sensitivity. My wife is still nursing but has given up all dairy and dairy-like foods. Any help as to what this may mean or if this is serious?
Avatar f tn Hi, have you ever tried Zantac? Take the Zantac 150 (or two 75's) in the morning and before dinner at night, or before bed, whichever you prefer. I have had heartburn forever and I tried the prescription meds, but I feel the Zantac works the best. But 75 is not enough, make sure you take 150 mg. twice a day. Also, you can supplement it with Mylanta or Maalox liquid if it's really bad. I'm not saying this will be a miracle cure, but it's worth a try.
1330108 tn?1333677304 t work for her so now she is on Prevacid. We have her in our room yet to sleep because I am afraid to put her in her room in case she spits up and has one of her "choking" episodes. I am not sure what you are using for her to sleep in but we just got a fishcer price rock and play which is amazing. It was recommended by her MD and we love it. She sleeps so good in it.
Avatar n tn s really bad and none of those help you can see if your doctor is ok with something like prevacid or prilosec.
Avatar n tn s been on everything you can name- pepsid, rice cereal, prevacid, nexium, reglan, mylanta, zantac but nothing seems to work. He is breast fed pumped breast milk (he has always choked on my breast) and I use a premie nipple on the bottle. At around 4 months he started to refuse the bottle (breast milk only) at around this time I also tried introducing him to formula (Isomil soy) but he got so sick that I put him back on breast milk.
6822962 tn?1396329659 I'm 38 weeks now, and I have been taking previcid & zantac the entire pregnancy. I have GERD and other GI issues prepregnancy anyway. One thing I did find our early in in my pregnancy was that I have a gluten intolerance! This is pregnancy #6 (child #5) n it wasn't till about 9-10 weeks in that I realized I just can't have any gluten! I was really sick n it crazy tummy pain, vomiting n everything ...so I would maybe keep an eye in it for you too...who knows.
Avatar f tn I've had 3 docs prescribe prevacid and prilosec and one who said its bad to have any. I miscarried when I wasnt on anything and the babies I've had are all fine despite the prilosec. Some docs are more cautious. My doc now is a high risk ob/gyn with experience in fetal development issues and he says its fine. Talk to your doc or a different one...its not good to be so miserable you can't eat...for you or baby.
290867 tn?1333569278 He is on Prevacid ( Zantac did not help him atall) 3x day and he seems to be feeling better on it. He is alos on Carafate 4x a day to coat his Esophagus because it was damaged badly! What are if any side effects of him taking these meds and could there be any long term problems???? Any one have any tricks that worked for you to help with the spitting up???
547002 tn?1219797376 As for your symptoms on discontinuation of the Prevacid, it might be worth switching to an H2 blocker such as Pepcid or Zantac for a week or two to lessen the acid suppression but maintain a little.
290867 tn?1333569278 That's what I have is the solutab Prevacid, but I don't know for sure if that is what amy0013 is talking about or not. It's Prevacid tablets that dissolve in water and I just give it to her with a dropper.
Avatar f tn Um o cant remember if this is fact bit i do believe it is not ok. But double check. They usually say just drink milk. I forced the acid up n out then drank milk....that usually helped.
Avatar f tn I can't get to the store :( I was gonna call my Dr in the morning but I took one just for tonight
Avatar f tn Take 24 Prevacid for heartburn.
Avatar f tn I transitioned to Zantac from Prevacid because of concern that the Prevacid might be contributing to my arrythmias. I am off of the Zantac for a day or two to see if it makes a difference in my INR.
171768 tn?1324230099 I was hoping there was still a pediatric GERD forum... I have scanned posts and most seem to be adults. Anyone out there with a baby suffering? Your posts make me sooo sad for the babies who suffer with this. I can't even imagine what it must be like to go through that and not know what's wrong, why you hurt, etc... My daughter is 5 months old and has silent reflux. She has been on Zantac since 4 weeks old, but it just wasn't doing enough.
Avatar f tn You can take prevacid to.
Avatar n tn I too have been suffering for about 17 years for what I thought and still am thinking is acid reflux. I did fine for many years taking zantac and or prilosec. I lost 55 lbs and everything went away even though I stayed on zantac because I could feel some shortness of breath if I didn't take it. I gained about 30 lbs back and this past summer all the meds stopped working. My biggest problem with my Gerd from the start is that I feel like my food gets stuck in my throat or down in my chest.
Avatar f tn 4 weeks left until our little boy will be here, and I am pretty sure I am pregnant with a Dragon he is causing the worst heartburn ever!!! Any ideas or tips other than tums and zantac?
Avatar n tn For many years, GER [Gastroesophageal reflux] during infancy and childhood was thought to be a consequence of absent or diminished LES tone [lower esophageal sphincter, which is sometimes also referred to as the Cardiac Sphincter due to its proximity to the heart]. However, studies have shown that baseline LES pressures are normal in pediatric patients, even in preterm infants.
Avatar f tn ve been excessively burping now for about a year. When it starts, I burp for sometimes up to 10 hours or more a day. This has left me incapable of doing much! I've had upper, lower GI testing and all tests come back fine. I need help... I've been on tons of different meds trying to stop this and nothing is working. The only bit of relief I get is if I lay down on my right side.. and it takes a while before it slows down.
Avatar f tn I'm 33 weeks and have had heartburn since week 16. I take two 150mg Zantac daily. Along with tums for breakthrough. My physician told me it was completely fine. I also work with gasrtoenterologist and they recommend the same thing. Ask your doctor if it's ok for you to take that. It has been a life saver for me. Hope you get some relief soon!
