Zantac h2 blocker

Common Questions and Answers about Zantac h2 blocker

zantac

Avatar f tn Ok thanks
Avatar n tn Sorry forgot to answer the actual question. I think Zantac is fine as long as your kidneys and liver are not diseased. However, it isn't as effective as a proton pump inhibitor. I would speak to your Doctor if heart burn is an issue because something like Omeprazole would be much more beneficial. I can also vouch that it doesn't reduce the effects of Clopidogrel or Lipitor.
Avatar m tn Hi. Nexium is a Proton Pump Inhibitor and Zantac is an H2 Blocker. They have different actions. I also have GERD and it is controlled fine with a PPI. Im not sure about the Xanax though. H2 Blockers like Zantac can make some people drowsy, so if Zantac does that to you, then you are likely to be even more drowsy combined with Xanax. I would check with your GI doc. He will be more familiar with how Zantac, Nexium, and Xanax react to one another. Your pharmacist is also a good person to ask.
Avatar n tn Hi Folks, I have GERD and have been on Omeprazole (40mg) for about two years now. The burning sensation in the back of my throat has returned so I decided to try an H2 Blocker, specifically Zantac (150) I must say, this drug seems to work well but there is one HUGE problem I am experiencing. Wicked anxiety / panic / brain fog. Is this something I just need to put up with until my body adapts to this drug? Any other suggestions if the Zantac needs to be tossed?
Avatar n tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Tecta (which from my research, I believe is Pantoprazole) is a PPI and Zantac is a H2 blocker, so the answer most likely is that, yes you can take both of these together, but I would still recommend checking this out with your doctor.
709686 tn?1277432159 not all meds work for everyone and it could be u need to try something else...mayb a H2 blocker instead of a PPI? Call ur dr ASAP...netime u have a reaction to a med.
7923170 tn?1412999504 I take an h2 blocker suggested by the Dr. Probably pepcid generic. I would get the okay first. Mostly I have to be preventative. Water makes heartburn worse because it doesn't dilute it but only raises the amount of liquid in the stomach. No onions, garlic, tomatoes, caffeine, chocolate, citrus, or spicy foods. Eat hours before bedtime. They say a couple but I have to eat at least 4 hours before laying down. One risk of an h2 blocker is lowered ability to prevent food bacteria breakdown.
Avatar m tn For me, I tend to over produce histamines....and using a H2 blocker instead of a PPI worked along with a antihistamine....this helped my PND and has helped cut back on my other symptoms as well as modifying my diet like the above poster suggests. Do see your Dr and ask about the cause of the PND....or histamine over load and see what will help you feel better....keep us posted on your progress.
Avatar m tn You could trial him out on the over the counter Zantac, which is an H2 blocker, and will help with allergic reactions as well as indigestion. Or his own production of gastric acids are in excess and with the added acids in those foods, it leads to sweats, like when people eat hot chilli or hot wings. If that's the case then a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) will help reduce the acid by not allowing so much to be produced.
424634 tn?1277857528 The TMD pain is in the inner ear, head, jaw, face, neck, and can radiate as low as the chest at times. You may wan to try something like Zantac (an H2 blocker) or Prilosec OTC (a Proton Pump Inhibitor) to see whether that helps symptoms. Of course, consult with your doc about this. FYI, my first symptoms of GERD were about the same as yours. I also had a lump feeling and clicking in my throat which has been virtually eliminated since I started medications about 6 weeks ago.
Avatar n tn Consider Switching to a H2 blocker. H2 blocker safer than PPI's aka proton pump inhibitor. Ask the pharmacist at local drug store.
Avatar f tn It is possible you over produce histamines and that a H2 blocker will help ease your symptoms.....I too had similar symptoms as you, and PPI's did not help with my symptoms....but once y Dr changed me to the H2 blocker which blocks histamines I began to feel better....diet is important too. There are some foods that can cause you to over produce Histamines. Worth looking into.....good luck.
Avatar n tn s not reacting well to that particular one. Ask for a different prescription. (Guessing that they started him on an H2-blocker like Zantac. He might need something stronger, a PPI like Aciphex or Prilosec.) The Vagus nerve problem you're talking about is probably gastroparesis, and while that is a possibility, unless he's throwing up undigested food in the morning, or hours after eating, I wouldn't worry too much about that just now.
Avatar m tn I take Dexilant 60mg mid afternoon and ranitidine (Zantac - and H2 blocker like Pepcid) at bedtime. I have severe asthma and difficult reflux as well. The reflux exacerbates the asthma so it must be very well controlled. I will also take a calcium-magnesium product like Rolaids for flares or when my diet has not been the best for reflux. I recently doubled my probiotic.
Avatar f tn Talk to your dr about adding an H2 blocker like ranitidine (Zantac) taken at bed time. I also will take some Rolaids if I know I have broken one of the above rules or I am having breatk through. Maybe seeing a gastro-interologist would be a good idea at this point. It sounds like you should have a scope done to screen for barretts esophagus and hiatel hernia and a few other things. I hope you get some help and relief.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Kapadix and now on Protonic and zantac at night and I still have really bad acid reflex, even when I drink water. I have gone to 2 different gastronologists and I cannot get relief. I already had the endoscopy when I had my colonoscopy and now they both want to do a ph test. I cannot see how that can help me. Could you tell me the benefits of having that done? Thank you for your help.
Avatar m tn I was on a PPI and they stopped working for me.....after a talk with my Dr I was switched to a H2 blocker.....so do look into other options as there are a few.
Avatar n tn Thank you very much!
Avatar m tn Hello, There are over the counter medicines BUT if you plan on just taking them a couple of times a month (as needed), then stick with H2 blockers an hour or two before eating something you think might set it off. H2 blockers include: • Axid AR • Pepcid AC • Tagament HB • Zantac PPI's such as Prilosec, Prevacid, Zegerid take days to start working (usually a week). So if you are in a hurry forget these.
Avatar f tn I have taken antihistamin(first, second generation H1 blocker, also H2 blocker), mast cell cell stabilizer(monokast) which are not responding to the hives . I have started taking glucocorticoid(prednisolone, deflacort) which are doing good. I have not found any trigger for this hives, which appear everyday and go away after taking steroid.
Avatar m tn Go to a pharmacy and pick up something with omeprazole in it like Prilosec to try for two weeks. You can layer that with an H2 blocker like Pepcid AC or something with ranitidine (better choice). Take the Prilosec early in the day like before breakfast or mid afternoon and the H2 blocker at bed time. It is an experiment, but it could help. Also, do a search for non-medicinal treatments for heart burn. I know it sounds unlikely.
