15695260 tn?1549593113 Choices for a generic over the counter antacid just got smaller as the drug maker of generic ranitidine under the brand name of Zantac has pulled distribution of the medication world wide. Last week the FDA stated they found cancer causing chemicals in some samples taken from batches of generic rantitidine or Zantac. https://www.fda.
Avatar m tn By taking a medication off prescription and making it OTC the NHS saves money and the pharmaceutical company make more money because presumably more people will by it when they don't need a prescription. The reason you think Rannitidine is less effective is because the placebo effect has been removed. In fact both drugs are equally effective. Otherwise the generic version would not have been licenced.
7349088 tn?1390657733 I take Omneprozle, it is a generic drug that is also found in Zantac, Dr said it is safe I would call yours and get him / her to prescribe you something
9487829 tn?1404261279 My heartburn got to be a daily problem for me and my Dr prescribed Prilosec (Omeprazole generic name) and it works for me!
Avatar m tn Perhaps your son has allergies to foods with acids? Both orange juice and spicy foods have lots of acid content. You could trial him out on the over the counter Zantac, which is an H2 blocker, and will help with allergic reactions as well as indigestion. Or his own production of gastric acids are in excess and with the added acids in those foods, it leads to sweats, like when people eat hot chilli or hot wings.
Avatar f tn Rantidine IS Zantac, that's the generic name. If you were taking it before, it would be fine to take. I've never heard of a contraindication between Tums and Prozac, but again, if the Zantac works, then stick with that. Let your doc know about the heartburn too. Sometimes it can indicate something like an ulcer.
Avatar f tn The only thing that's helped me is Zantac (no name) every 12 hours. Tums will only help for 10 min if that and natural remedies do nothing.
Avatar f tn I was using ranitidine (generic for zantac). I was having horrible stomach pain and dr told me to try zegerid....and holy smokes its awesome!!! Expensive but good stuff $23 for 42 @ target.
1134609 tn?1269272200 ----I stabilized completely last summer and I was on the brand name version of the medication. When I switched over to the generic, I started having problems and had to increased the dose from 900mgs to 1600mgs over the space of a few months. Any changes in the dosages over this time dropped me into a deep depression and I HAD to drop the dosage many times because it was agitating me. I just assumed it was because I was adjusting to the medication.
Avatar f tn I take generic zantac and keep my upper body slightly elevated and that does the trick.
1088529 tn?1256844030 I've just started taking zantac, and I don't know if I'll have any side effects, or if my regular symptoms (stomach pain, upset stomach) will become apparent or come back. My question is this; if I get nauseous, stomach pain, upset stomach etc. as a side effect or other, can I take tums to calm my stomach down? Or will it just make things worse? I can't talk to my doctor because (a) don't have an appointment and (b) am too young to drive there or get an appointment myself.
Avatar f tn As the dr suggested, you could try an OTC antihistamine to start with (they are cheaper). I would recommend Zyrtec (or its generic). Afrin is the original name brand for oxymetazoline. Never use it for longer than 3 days at a time and then off for three days. You can rotate if needed. There are a number of other meds a dr can prescribe to help control your symptoms if you really suspect allergies to be the cause.
676912 tn?1332812551 Oh and it can't be the generic or it doesn't work for me I have to buy the OTC Zantac instead of my insurance paying for the generic.
Avatar f tn my dr gave my rinididine which is zantac but you can get generic version called acid reducers at walmart, idk where you live but when i ran out of the script from the dr i got walmart brand of them for like $4 but it is safe to take.
Avatar f tn I take Zantac generic 150mg twice daily when is really needed also I have struggled with acid reflux prior to my pregnancy and now that I'm prego its at its worse especially at night and when I'm laying down but I control it with this remedy and within thirty minutes it's gone bye bye
Avatar f tn Because of this, I told the doctor I was having a possible reaction and he switched me to generic Zantac 150mg 2x per day - that was WORSE. My head was so tight, my anxiety heightened and I got a massive yeast infection after 4 days. So I went back on the generic prilosec.
4906205 tn?1360810714 That was me!!! I grew immune to tums so I got a script for zantac 150 its awesome!!!
Avatar f tn Zantac 150 is what I take!
Avatar n tn They will tell you that Zantac or the generic form is safe for you. No peptol or anything like that but the zantac works pretty quickly and is easy to find. Dairy is supposed to help but didn't for me and mine got so bad I had to be prescribed two different meds to take each day for it so your doc can certainly give you something stronger if it persists.
10678677 tn?1413254266 I take tums and just started some zantac. The zantac is a LIFESAVER!
393685 tn?1425812522 Six REAL martinis? Not cyber ones??? WOW! I'd have been on my lips....(and have been before once or twice...) LOL! I take generic Zantac for heartburn. It's called Ranitidine. Much less expensive and works great!~ Still laughing about the SIX martinis......
